00:00Oh, this is real, we've arrived.
00:04I was biting my nails against Lanaka.
00:07Palace are always testing my nails, I feel like it's just standard.
00:11In extra time, Crystal Palace strike once more.
00:15Crystal Palace advance to the quarterfinal.
00:19The home leg against Fiorentina was pure football.
00:22It's 3-0 to Crystal Palace.
00:25Everyone saw the route to Leipzig there.
00:29That Shakhtar game really tested our resilience.
00:32It's in!
00:33The whole stadium was on its feet.
00:35Crystal Palace reach a first European final.
00:40It's been an incredible journey.
00:41The Eagles soar to new heights.
00:44It's a chance to have our hands on a European trophy.
00:48They are one more win from glory.
00:51Lifting the trophy, that's the only thing I want to tick off.
00:54This may not happen again. Enjoy every moment of it.
01:02It has been an unforgettable maiden flight in Europe for the Eagles.
01:07And their fans have absolutely lived the dream through every single stage.
01:12Tonight at the RB Arena, the fans from South London hope their boys can provide the perfect ending against the
01:19side.
01:19From the south of Madrid, Rayo Vallecano.
01:23It could also be a fitting farewell for the Palace boss, Oliver Glasner.
01:27This is his final game in charge of the club.
01:30And his message to his squad was to win this competition for themselves and the fans.
01:35But there's no doubt the players would also love to give the man who's taken the club to new heights
01:41another trophy to be remembered by.
01:44Palace aren't the only ones breaking new ground, though.
01:48For their opponents, Rayo Vallecano, this really is the biggest game in their history.
01:54They have never played in a final of any kind before.
01:58Just being here is an incredible achievement in itself.
02:01But now, having got this far, they don't intend to be a footnote in someone else's story.
02:08Oh, what an occasion that we've got ahead of us tonight.
02:12And joining me for it are Glenn Hoddle and Jolian Lescott.
02:15And the former Palace captain, Joel Ward, is out in Leipzig for us as well.
02:19So we're going to be hearing from him shortly.
02:20But what a night ahead for Crystal Palace, Glenn.
02:23After winning their first piece of major silverware last year with the FA Cup,
02:27they now have the chance to win a European trophy as well.
02:32How special would that be?
02:33That is going to be so special for that football club.
02:35As you say, the FA Cup last year was an incredible feat, beating Manchester City in the final.
02:41But this, I think, for them as a club, will take them one step further.
02:45It really would, to win a European trophy.
02:48And what a way to go out for Clasda.
02:50I mean, that would be just the icing on the cake.
02:52The players will run a million miles for him, rightly so.
02:55He seems such a good guy.
02:57But also, what a wonderful job he's done as a coach.
03:00And, yeah, it's going to be a wonderful occasion, isn't it, John?
03:03Yeah, definitely.
03:04Something that will live long in the memory of all the fans, all the players.
03:08And you heard one of the fans mention that it's their most enjoyable memory as a family.
03:12To go and witness them win the FA Cup.
03:14So, to have a European trophy as well is special.
03:17It's been an incredible journey for the fans, for the players.
03:20Here, the players and Oliver Glasner are now just walking out for the first time to take a look at
03:25the pitch.
03:25As you do when you're in a new arena, somewhere that none of these players have probably played in before.
03:30Oliver Glasner knows the stadium well from his time in the Bundesliga, of course.
03:34But this is their chance just to settle in, Julian.
03:36Yeah, you say that, but I never, it's one thing I never did.
03:38You never went out there?
03:39I never went out in any game.
03:41Never was the final, or just, because I knew what I was wearing.
03:43People quite had to check the surface and the atmosphere.
03:46I was like, no, I'm not, I'm going to keep on my feet.
03:48Six studs, old school.
03:49Did you?
03:49And just kind of just tuned in and read through the programme and just tried to kind of relax and
03:54choose my traditions.
03:56What was it like for you?
03:57I was totally opposite.
03:58I needed to get out there.
03:59Not necessarily for what I was going to wear, but I would visualise.
04:03I'd visualise where I was going to be playing on the pitch and the surroundings, all them things.
04:07So I would be visualising passes or efforts just before the game, just walking around.
04:12I mean, if it was a dodgy pitch, which we played on, I'd look at the studs, what I was
04:17going to wear as well.
04:17But I was very much visual.
04:19I needed to go out there and have that picture.
04:21This is a dream for Crystal Palace, though.
04:23I mean, even getting into Europe was not something that was on their radar a few years ago.
04:28Oliver Glasner's spoken about that already, and it hasn't been an easy ride.
04:32How impressive is it that they've got to the final at the first time of ever playing in Europe?
04:37Oh, it's ridiculously impressive.
04:38The fact that they were deemed the favourites and having no experience as a club, some of the players in
04:43Europe,
04:44and to then to kind of live up to the expectation and that pressure that comes with being the favourites,
04:49you've got to give them extra credit for that.
04:50Obviously, it's the same for both teams in regards to silverware in Europe for both teams.
04:55But, yeah, to beat some of the teams they have done, with actual experience of playing in Europe,
05:01it's a remarkable achievement just to get here.
05:03For Raya Vallecano, their story is incredible, and we're going to hear more about it throughout the next hour and
05:08a half
05:08as we build up to kick off at 8 o'clock, but just to point out, this is their first
05:13ever final of any kind.
05:15It's incredible.
05:16But this is what the Conference League is about, isn't it?
05:18This is what this competition was for, clubs like this.
05:20Giving more opportunities for clubs like that to actually get to finals.
05:25They're going to be the underdogs, there's no doubt about it,
05:27and that will be interesting for Palace, from Palace's point of view.
05:30Can they go out as favourites?
05:32Everyone's expecting them to win.
05:33It's a different story, then, if you're expected.
05:36But, yeah, Raya, they'll just go out there and enjoy themselves.
05:40They'll be a tough team to play against, but I think they've got a free hit in many ways,
05:45which is, when you've got a free hit, you're a dangerous team.
05:48You really are.
05:49There's no expectations on them.
05:51They'll be going there to enjoy themselves.
05:53The fans will.
05:54So it'll be a tough night for Palace.
05:55OK, well, we saw the pitch a moment ago.
05:57It's a huge night for both clubs.
05:59It's also the first time a major European final is being held in the city of Leipzig.
06:05So let's head back out there to the RB Arena now to hear from the man
06:08who lifted the FA Cup with Palace last year, Joel Ward.
06:11He's with Liam McDevitt and, I think, also another very special guest.
06:15Tell you what, Jules, I'm joined by two very popular men here in Leipzig.
06:20JP, it's been a long journey to this point.
06:22You're finally here in a final.
06:24How are you feeling?
06:25I feel fantastic.
06:26I feel very fantastic and I can't wait to start the game.
06:31JP, mate, it's good to see you, my friend.
06:33Thank you.
06:34Listen, it's been a huge couple of years at the club.
06:37And I want to commend you for all the hard work that you've put in.
06:41Not many people see the amount of effort that you put in on and off the pitch.
06:45The extras you do, the training, everything that you do around the club as well.
06:50It's been great to see you grow as a player into a leader.
06:55And tonight, I just wanted to see, is there a little bit of extra motivation knowing the Gaffer is leaving?
07:01Yeah, yeah, it's a motivation.
07:04And, you know, like, it's a final.
07:06I think it's a motivation.
07:08It's a big motivation.
07:09And the first final for us as Europeans.
07:12And I think the motivation is enough.
07:15I think.
07:15Yeah, I love that.
07:16JP, you've had so many different tests in Europe this season.
07:20In terms of the opposition tonight, what do you need to be careful of?
07:23What have your manager said is their main threat?
07:26I think as a team, Mario Vallecano put a lot of intensity.
07:29They press very, like, they maybe press us all game.
07:34They're the team who run the most, I think, in La Liga.
07:37They put a lot of intensity.
07:40And, yeah, I think it's this.
07:42They put a lot of intensity and we have to match them.
07:45JP, pleasure to see you and good luck tonight.
07:47Cheers.
07:47All the best.
07:51Joel, always good to hear from the big man there.
07:54You have spent such a long time at Crystal Palace.
07:57When you arrived, they weren't even in the top flight.
07:59Looking around today, the flags, the supporters.
08:02You must be so proud to be a former Palace captain and player.
08:05Yeah, it's special.
08:08You know, I think my time at the club was capped off with, obviously, the FA Cup,
08:14which was special in itself and a fairy tale ending.
08:16But I think, you know, what these fans are experiencing right now, you know,
08:20is something, you know, many wouldn't have dreamt of.
08:24But these lads have put in the hard work.
08:26These lads have kind of set the stage.
08:28They've given the club the opportunity to dream, to believe.
08:31And they've kind of given also the younger generations to believe in the dream
08:34that they can come out here and do that and play for their clubs
08:37and play for their teams and go on to achieve great things.
08:40How is it for you to be in Leipzig?
08:41You've been one of the most popular men in the town centre today.
08:44I saw a great little video of you with the sunglasses.
08:46Getting a lot of love, right?
08:47It's been good fun.
08:49It's been good fun.
08:49I was just popping out for a little bit of lunch and obviously turned into all the fans.
08:54And I think you've got to soak it up.
08:55You've got to enjoy it.
08:56And, you know, I'm out here, obviously, with TNT and with you.
09:00And, you know, but I'm also out here as a fan.
09:02And I'm proud of these lads.
09:04I'm proud of the group.
09:04I'm proud of this club.
09:05And, you know, I think these fans epitomise Palace.
09:11And I think these players epitomise Palace and what they do in the hard work
09:13that they've put in this season, what they've had to overcome as well
09:17and the journey they've been on.
09:19So tonight they can go out there with full confidence that everyone here
09:23is going to be behind them all the way.
09:25And, yeah, just go and play with that freedom and play with no fear.
09:29Yeah, thanks, Joel.
09:30We're having a lovely time here.
09:31You can feel it.
09:32It feels like it's going to be a really special night of football.
09:36It certainly does.
09:37Thanks, guys.
09:38Joel was loving every minute of that, wasn't he?
09:40Lots more to come from them on what's another historic night for Crystal Palace.
09:44As you can see, thousands of fans have made the trip to Leipzig,
09:47the final stop on this whirlwind adventure of magical moments
09:52and travels around the continent.
09:54And they now hope to end it by seeing their team lift their first European trophy.
10:00You look back at the history of Crystal Palace Football Club,
10:03you look at how far we've come.
10:04And the last 12 months we've been on such a journey.
10:07It's been absolutely incredible.
10:09We never dreamed we'd win an FA Cup.
10:12We never dreamed we'd be in a European final.
10:14I've seen this club nearly go bust.
10:17I've seen this club go be in very dire straits.
10:20When I was younger, I never thought we'd be in a position like this, you know.
10:24We've got to make the most of this because I don't think it'll happen again anytime soon.
10:27My mum and dad passed away recently
10:29and they were season two girls until they were in their 80s.
10:33So if they win, this is for them.
10:35When Freddie was young, he cried when we lost a few games.
10:38And I held a few games.
10:38That's what I'm saying.
