00:00I know, I know the past few years have strained and tested our transatlantic relationship,
00:06but the United States is determined, determined to re-engage with Europe,
00:12to consult with you, to earn back our position of trusted leadership.
00:17And in so many places, including in Europe and the United States,
00:21democratic progress is under assault.
00:24I've known for, I've known many of you for a long, long time,
00:28and you know that I speak my mind.
00:31So let me be very straightforward with you all.
00:34We are in the midst of a fundamental debate about the future and direction of our world.
00:40We're at an inflection point.
00:42Between those who argue that given all the challenges we face,
00:47from the fourth industrial revolution to the global pandemic,
00:52that autocracy is the best way forward, they argue.
00:56And those who understand that democracy is essential,
01:00essential to meeting these challenges,
01:03historians are going to examine and write about this moment
01:06as an inflection point, as I said.
01:10Similarly, we can no longer delay
01:14or do the bare minimum to address climate change.
01:17This is a global existential crisis.
01:21This is a global existential crisis.
