00:00Tackling climate change and caring for our environment requires us to think the way we live.
00:08And this is why we have made the European Green Deal our priority.
00:14We're taking the necessary steps one by one to get there.
00:18And today it's the strategy for a renovation wave that will help us cut emissions and reduce energy poverty.
00:28It will bring economic, social and environmental benefits.
00:36But the European Green Deal is way more than that.
00:40It is a systemic change.
00:43And to achieve this we need a broad engagement, we need wide support and we need lots of imagination and
00:53creativity behind it.
00:55And this is why we're launching today the European Bauhaus.
01:01The European Bauhaus movement is intended to be a bridge.
01:05A bridge between on one hand the world of science and technology and on the other hand the world of
01:13arts and culture.
01:15It is about a new European Green Deal aesthetics combining the good design with sustainability.
01:26The European Bauhaus is about bringing the European Green Deal closer to people's minds and homes
01:35and making tangible the comfort and the attractiveness of sustainable living.
01:44The European Bauhaus will demonstrate that the necessary can also be beautiful.
01:52The European Bauhaus will be a think and experimentation space.
01:56It will be a forum for discussion, for example, or an experimentation lab.
02:03It will be an accelerator for new solutions or a hub for global networks and experts.
02:10It might be a discussion space for citizens interested in the topic.
02:17We will roll out the European Bauhaus in three stages.
02:21The first one is a design phase to explore the ideas and to shape the movement.
02:30And here we want to draw on the expertise and the engagement of many.
02:35So be it designers or architects or artists or digital experts, scientists, entrepreneurs, students, engineers.
02:44You just name it.
02:46Everybody who wants to take part with it is invited to come.
02:50The second stage will be the delivery phase, starting with five European Bauhaus projects in different EU member states.
03:03All of them committed to sustainability combined with arts and culture.
03:09And each adapted to the different local conditions and with specific focus, such as, for example, natural building materials or
03:22energy efficiency or demographics.
03:27Future-oriented mobility could be one topic.
03:31Or the resource-efficient digital innovation might lead another one.
03:38And finally, the third phase will be about spreading the idea.
03:44The European Bauhaus vocation is to grow and reach out beyond Europe's border.
03:52So if Europe is to lead the way in the twin green and digital transition, we should engage in cultural
04:02debates as well.
04:04And the new European Bauhaus is part of this broader vision we have.
04:10Building the world of tomorrow that is more sustainable, more beautiful, more humane.
04:18And this is our goal.
