From pressure and buoyancy to nitrogen absorption and balance, this is what the ocean feels like through the lens of science.

00:00I can't do it, I can't do it.
00:01You can, you can, you can.
00:02I can't do it, I can't do it.
00:04You can, you can, you can.
00:05I can't do it, I can't do it, I can't do it.
00:07Scuba diving isn't just about exploring oceans.
00:10It's about trusting physics with your life.
00:13Well, let's take a leap of faith in the name of science.
00:16The moment I descend, sound fades.
00:19Movement slows and every breath becomes slower and more intentional.
00:24Breathing underwater feels surreal, almost meditative.
00:27The tank may look small, but the air inside is stored under high pressure.
00:32With the help of specialized equipment, I can breathe underwater.
00:36Water is heavy, and with every 10 meters you descend, the pressure increases.
00:41At 20 meters underwater, my body is experiencing three times the pressure at sea level.
00:46That's why divers equalize the air species in their body,
00:49similar to what you feel during airplane takeoff and landing.
00:53With every breath underwater, nitrogen from the compressed air dissolves into the body's tissues.
00:59Interestingly, the air we breathe underwater is the same as the air we breathe on land,
01:04mainly oxygen and nitrogen.
01:07The difference is that underwater, the air is delivered through a scuba cylinder.
01:11As I'm diving, I want to move at a really nice, slow pace.
01:15And the reason for that is I can achieve some balance underwater,
01:19which will help me protect the aquatic marine life.
01:22Breathing also helps maintain balance underwater.
01:25And if you need extra support, you can simply add air into your buoyancy control device
01:30with the press of a button.
01:32What began as fear transformed into wonder
01:35as I found myself surrounded by the beauty of the underwater world.
01:39As I ascend back to the surface, pressure decreases,
01:42and the dissolved nitrogen inside the body can form bubbles.
01:46That's why divers always ascend slowly and carefully.
01:50Another golden rule of diving, never hold your breath.
01:53Because as pressure decreases during ascent,
01:56the air inside your lungs expands.
01:58Holding your breath can overexpond the lungs.
02:01So underwater, you never stop breathing.
02:04Guys, relax.
02:05I thought I'd panic because underwater it feels like you have no control.
02:11But somewhere between pressure and the silence,
02:14I found something else.
02:17Peace.
02:18And I'm officially an open water scuba diver now.
02:21Oh my God!
02:24No!
02:27No!
