Hungarian lawmakers vote to reverse exit from ICC initiated by Orbán

The 199-member parliament voted 133 for, 37 against with five abstentions to formally repeal a law on exiting the ICC, just ahead of the deadline.

00:02Hungarian lawmakers have voted overwhelmingly in favor of reversing the country's withdrawal
00:07from the International Criminal Court, which was set in motion last year by former Prime
00:12Minister Viktor Orbán's government. Prime Minister Peter Magyar submitted the bill on
00:17Monday and rushed it through legislature in a fast-track procedure. The ICC's legislative
00:22body hailed what they called an important decision after the government announced last
00:27Friday it would discontinue the process of withdrawal. Orbán announced Hungary's exit
00:32last year while hosting his ally Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In 2024, the ICC
00:39issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and other top Israeli officials over suspected war crimes and
00:45crimes against humanity committed in the war against Hamas in Gaza. Arrest warrants were also
00:50issued for several Hamas leaders. Magyar has indicated that Hungary would execute ICC warrants
00:56against anyone, even Netanyahu, despite inviting him to Budapest for later this year.
