01:38he's been in some select moves in this race so far
01:43this was the chasing group and a big one as well
01:47Mark Donovan back in there
01:48Alexandre Vlasov as you can see
01:49Florian Stork, Jan Hirt climbing really well

02:08by this stage Remy Cavagna was off the front
02:11the Frenchman
02:11he time trialed so well
02:13in the only time trial of this race the other day
02:15rolling back the years
02:16reminding everyone how good he is in the time trials
02:18and then today reminding everyone how good he is
02:21in the long lone breaks
02:23Giulio Cecchione was making sure of as many mountains points as he could take
02:27there were four there that he took on the day
02:30sitting in second place of course in the Malia Azura competition for the mountains
02:37a big breakaway and big T-Rex on the front of the chasing group
02:40in the middle phase of this stage 17 the rain came
02:43not a great problem for Jonas Vinjogor never seems to be actually in the cold and the wet
02:49but gradually the big group that had formed at the front of the race
02:52that had as you can see nearly six minutes of lead at that point were closing in
02:57but not until Jonathan Narvaez had made good his work by being there as well
03:03another 12 points in the Malia Ciclamino competition
03:07of course Paul Manier not up there in the break
03:09and Narvaez using these breaks as his chance to get them
03:12then started the climbing as well as they were working their way deeper and deeper
03:15into the Dolomites
03:16we're losing riders from that big leading group too
03:21and at the front of it we were filing out and forming out the very best of the climbers
03:26they included Alexander Vlasov, Andreas Leknesund, Damiano Caruso was there too
03:32this was the chasing group behind that still had Ciccone in it
03:35being led by Jan Hirt, only about 30 seconds between those two groups
03:39Damiano Caruso in what looks to be his final Giro d'Italia
03:44absolutely flying in the hills
03:45medium mountains if you like of the Dolomites
03:48as they worked their way up into Trentino
03:50this was the Red Bull Kilometer
03:53Igor Arrieta had got in touch with Einer Rubio and Michael Valgren
03:58Arrieta taking the six seconds
04:00Rubio the four and Valgren the two seconds there
04:02no great impact though on general classification
04:04because these riders were very much there for the stage
04:07Einer Rubio has done this on so many occasions in this race
04:10but Michael Valgren climbing so well
04:13despite his punchy slight weight advantage
04:16over the climbers that were surrounding him at the front of this group
04:19the Colombian I know Rubio
04:21knew he had a canny operator with him in Michael Valgren
04:24but this lot were not giving up particularly Andreas Leknesund
04:27who's been in this situation so many times in this race right now
04:31and then Arrieta who catching riders late on and then going on to win has definitely been his thing in
04:37this race
04:37he got in touch with Rubio and Michael Valgren at the front of the race but they weren't done
04:44thing is just as they latched on Michael Valgren was done under the Flamme Rouge with a kilometre to go
04:49going to the top of Andalo
04:52it was Michael Valgren a man who has never won a Grand Tour stage and has come back from a
04:57horrific injury
04:58back in 2022 he fractured his pelvis dislocated his hip took him forever to come back
05:03but I can tell you right now he is back
05:06what an incredible ride by the Dane in a race which is really rewarding the Danish right now
05:11and Andreas Leknesund with his third second place finish
05:15an emotional celebration for Michael Valgren
05:17raising above his head a lucky charm that he'd taken from his son
05:21or been given by his son of course before the race
05:24a lot of love for that man in the peloton by the sound of things at the finish too
05:27Jonas Vignogor of course continues in the Malia Rosa
05:32and Jonathan Navaes is back in the lead of the Malia Ciclamino
05:36can he take it all the way to Sunday's conclusion
05:40Jonas Vignogor still the best climber in the race
05:42it'll be Giulio Ciccone of course who wears the Malia Azura tomorrow
05:46and the Malia Bianca the best young rider is still held by Afonso Iolaglio
05:51tomorrow could be a sprint but it's got some stings in the tail
05:54that could be a serves in the middle of the zor pollution
05:54and to get the most common useful
05:58and bout Coupe aus as there is no' Gilliam
05:58or be an aside
