00:02In Colombia, tensions are rising ahead of the presidential election.
00:06Allegations of foreign interference are sparking intense controversy just days before voters head to the polls.
00:17The United States Southern Command attacked another alleged drug trafficking vest on Eastern Pacific waters, killing one person.
00:29And Muslims are on their walls to celebrate with prayers the Iral Adha Festival, one of the most important holidays
00:35in Islam.
00:43Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Telesu Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:48We begin with the news.
01:02In light of the influx of Colombian voters in various cities around the world, the government of the South American
01:07country is providing guarantees for overseas voting and encouraging nationals to participate in the democratic process.
01:13The National Civil Registry Office and the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported high voter turnout in cities such as
01:19Miami, Barcelona, London and Toronto on the first day of elections for Colombian nationals living abroad.
01:25In this regard, the Colombian Foreign Affairs Minister Rosa Villavicencio stated that the process has the necessary accreditation to ensure
01:31the legitimacy of the results.
01:33Villavicencio also emphasized the role of the electoral authorities who are working to guarantee transparent elections.
01:48The National Register of Colombia, Hernan Penagos, warned of legal action against those who spread false information about electoral results
01:55abroad.
01:58False information is circulating regarding the results of the elections from polling stations abroad.
02:04This is impossible because such information can be disclosed.
02:08Furthermore, the information will only become available once the elections close in Colombia next Sunday.
02:13It should also be noted that polling jurors and electoral witnesses who disseminate partial voting data from different polling stations
02:21abroad may face disciplinary actions and even criminal penalties.
02:30And political analyst Esteban Salazar warned that spreading false results from polling stations abroad could constitute voter fraud.
02:40The offense of voter fraud occurs when a person uses deceptive maneuvers to induce others to vote for a different
02:47candidate.
02:48This affects citizens' voting intentions since although polls are prohibited in the week before the election to avoid influencing voters.
02:56Pollution, false and misleading preliminarily totally shed results, which are the responsibility of the National Civil Registry Office,
03:05would encourage people to vote for Abelardo de la Esprilla.
03:12And with Colombia's presidential election just around the corner, alarms are sounding over alleged foreign efforts to influence the results.
03:18The country's digital and political sovereignty is under scrutiny following their revelation of a plot that seeks to influence voters
03:24through fear.
03:25Our colleague Tatiana Portela with the details.
03:30The presidential election in Colombia is approaching in shadow by growing concerns over foreign interference.
03:35International analysts are warning about the so-called Honduras Gate scandal,
03:39an alleged strategy backed by the United States and Israel in which, in addition to former Honduran President Juan Orlando
03:45Hernández,
03:46leaders such as Javier Milay would also be involved.
03:48The goal, to destabilize the country's democracy by manipulating the electorate through fear campaigns on social media.
03:57Honduras Gate, here is going to take those shapes.
04:01We have a candidate who is directly backed by Zionist capital in Colombia.
04:08Even Semana Magazine says it openly here, they have no problem with it.
04:12And what is their interest? To gain a foothold here.
04:15Not only to dominate politically but also to seize the natural wealth of all Latin America.
04:19They've done it before. Look at how they did it in Bolivia, and the response they are now getting there.
04:25And now they're going to say that we are orchestrating a social uprising.
04:29In Honduras, they said there was going to be a coup, and the government kept quiet, and said,
04:34no, we're not going to do anything, and they ended up carrying out the coup without they even realizing it,
04:39through the media.
04:41Precisely in response to the Honduras Gate scandal, and the direct responsibility of former Honduran President Juan Hernandez,
04:48convicted and later granted pardon by Donald Trump for drug trafficking,
04:51the former magistrate of the National Electoral Council traveled to Honduras to denounce these actions at the international level.
04:58Filing a criminal complaint against Juan Hernandez in connection with the Honduras Gate case,
05:02regarding those audio recordings in which he allegedly states that he intends to carry out acts of transnational terrorism and
05:09money laundering,
05:10with funding from Milay and the government of Israel, in order to commit crimes against humanity and genocide against the
05:16left in Latin America,
05:18which he claims should be exterminated like a cancer, and in Honduras he already has lists of people who would
05:24be killed, including the Zelaya family.
05:27The reported facts cannot be left in impunity, the preparatory acts already constitute a crime that must be investigated,
05:34and prosecuted by the justice system in Honduras.
05:37If this is not done, we are therefore submitting copies to the office of the prosecutor of the International Criminal
05:43Court
05:43so that the principle of complementarity may be applied.
05:46The same action has been filed in Bogota, and we will do so in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, and also
05:52in the United States.
05:56According to the investigations and the revealed audio recordings about the plan,
06:00it will be orchestrated by the United States government itself,
06:03a claim that does not seem far-fetched, considering that Republican Congressman Bernie Moreno himself
06:08threatened the Colombian people with military intervention in the country if the progressive candidate Ivan Cepeda were to win.
06:17We can see this even in the Platt Amendment. In the early 20th century, how direct interventions by the United
06:25States have been accompanied by control over voting,
06:28or by supervision of so-called democratic elections.
06:35This was done in Cuba, it was done in Nicaragua, and at the beginning of the 20th century, and then
06:41it was revisited in the context of the Cold War,
06:44through more sophisticated strategies that included military assistance, so-called international cooperation,
06:51but also direct pressure to force certain changes and certain decisions on governments and electorates.
07:01Despite pressures from the United States and the open interference of far-right leaders in South America,
07:06the Colombian people are preparing to go to the polls this upcoming May 31st.
07:11On this historic day, the successor to the country's first progressive president will be elected.
07:21And Peruvian police arrested an armed individual during a political rally just a few meters from the stage
07:26where presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez was giving a speech.
07:30The incident occurred in the province of Guaral while the candidate from Together for Peru was presenting his campaign platform.
07:36The suspect was taken into custody by the national police after displaying an evasive attitude and being overpowered.
07:42Given that this is Sánchez's hometown where he enjoys strong support,
07:46the politician decided not to interrupt his speech despite the tension at the scene.
07:50Authorities are investigating the presence of two other men who are believed to have accompanied the detainee
07:55and managed to escape from the scene.
08:05Bolivia is now in its fourth week of protest with more than 50 roadblocks still in place across five departments
08:11of the country.
08:12Protests continue to put pressure on Rodrigo Paz's government in several strategic regions across the country.
08:17The Department of La Paz has been the most affected region with 20 roadblocks set up in protest against a
08:23wage increase in Law 1720,
08:25including demands for Rodrigo Paz to resign.
08:29Amid the protests, the unions and the Bolivian Workers' Central formally demand a dialogue with the central government
08:33and call on the mobilized leadership to establish a negotiating table despite police repression.
08:45Meanwhile, the Chamber of Deputies approved the repeal of Law 1341, which facilitates the implementation of a state of emergency
08:53in the country.
08:54On Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies approved the repeal of Law 1341 on states of emergency by a two-thirds
09:00majority in a virtual session.
09:02Law 1341 regulated the procedures and limits for the application of states of emergency,
09:08including mechanisms for legislative oversight and temporary restrictions on measures taken by the executive branch.
09:14Its repeal expands the repressive powers of Rodrigo Paz's government in the face of citizen protests.
09:19This comes amid growing political and social tensions marked by indefinite blockades occurring in various regions of the country.
09:31In our first break, stay with us.
09:53Welcome back.
09:54The Acting President of Venezuela, Dulce Rodriguez, led a Council of Ministries meeting where she announced projects aiming to ensure
10:01the well-being of the people.
10:04From the Miraflores Palace, the Acting President appointed the Minister of Education, Hector Rodriguez, as Presidential Commissioner.
10:11Within 90 days, he must develop a proposal for a new governmental structure accompanied by the sectoral vice president for
10:16planning, Ricardo Menendez.
10:18Meanwhile, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Anabel Pereira, was appointed commissioner for the efficient management of the national government.
10:25The aim is to adapt the public administration to the country's reality and create an executive branch that ensures the
10:30common good.
10:31In this scenario, the Acting President stated that despite the economic blockade, Venezuela has achieved sustained growth over the past
10:37five years
10:38and emphasized that the country will continue to move forward towards a homeland free of sanctions and at peace.
10:52I have said that even with our hands tied, we have achieved sustained growth over the past five years.
11:00Just imagine what Venezuela could keep if we were free of sanctions.
11:05Consider the immense potential of our nation, and most importantly, the identity that has enabled us, as Venezuelan men and
11:12women,
11:13to reach this point despite the severe economic blockade, unlike anything our republic has ever experienced.
11:21And, I will argue, unlike what few other countries have experienced in terms of limitation on their economic, financial and
11:28commercial potential.
11:30So, with great hope, we embark on this pilgrimage.
11:35We are pilgrims, men and women alike, and we march, pray and sing together for the Venezuela free of sanctions
11:42and at peace.
11:44Libre de sanciones y una Venezuela en paz.
11:59Apearing before the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez,
12:05called for peace in response to the United States' escalating aggressions and threats against the island.
12:13No justification can be invoked for aggressive or coercive in human arts or similar arts.
12:21Given the humanitarian impact, let Cuba live in peace.
12:25For more than six decades, the United States government has fabricated pretext in an attempt to justify its criminal conduct.
12:37It has absolutely portrayed the small symbolic island as a threat to the national security of a nuclear superpower.
12:47An idea that defies logic and common sense and is based on false assertions and insinuations.
12:55As President Miguel Díaz-Canel has reiterated, Cuba is not and cannot be a threat.
13:03It is not an enemy to the United States and does not seek to be one, despite its significant difference
13:11with the U.S. government.
13:17In this context, Rodriguez urged the international community to unite and put an end to the U.S. aggression that
13:22endangers Cuba's peace and sovereignty.
13:28I call on the international community to mobilize in order to prevent a possible humanitarian catastrophe, whether through armed action
13:38or an energy siege,
13:40and the extreme tightening of the blockage, which also kills and cause suffering.
13:45I urge Latin America and the Caribbean to take action to preserve their status as a son of peace and
13:53avoid the adverse consequences that would destabilize the region.
13:57The time has come for extensive international coordination, transcending political differences, ideological approaches, and historical disputes to establish boundaries and
14:09prevent violations
14:10that endanger and harm the national interests, peoples, and sovereign prerogatives for whole states.
14:23Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the top diplomat's address at the international body through a post on his social
14:30media.
14:30Precisely, the head of state wrote,
14:32Our Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez has brought Cuba's dignified and sovereign voice to the U.N. Security Council.
14:37On behalf of our noble and supportive people, he called on the international community to take action to prevent a
14:43humanitarian catastrophe that could unfold,
14:45whether through the use of force or through an energy blockade and the extreme tightening of the blockade, which also
14:51kill and cause suffering.
14:53Furthermore, he stressed how the Foreign Minister called on Latin America and the Caribbean to act to preserve their status
14:59as a son of peace
15:00and avoid adverse consequences that would destabilize the region.
15:10Also in Cuba, scientists are making progress on the development of a therapeutic vaccine that represents an innovative approach to
15:17the fight against cancer.
15:18In this regard, on Tuesday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel shared a meeting of health experts and scientists
15:23where progress on the Heber-Savax therapeutic vaccine candidate was presented, an active immunotherapy developed by Cuban biotechnology unique in
15:32the world.
15:33The candidate targets the mechanisms that feed cancerous tumors and trigger cellular responses that halt its progress.
15:40Phase II clinical trials have shown significant improvements in the quality of life for patients with colorectal,
15:48hepatocellular ovarian, and kidney cancer, even in advanced stages.
15:52Despite the U.S. blockade, Cuba refuses to give up defending the foremost of all human rights, the right to
15:57life.
16:05In another case of extrajudicial killing by the United States military,
16:09the Southern Command attacked an alleged drug trafficking vessel in eastern Pacific waters, killing one person.
16:14The U.S. Southern Command published on the X platform that it carried out a military operation on Tuesday
16:20that resulted in the sinking of a vessel that was transit in so-called drug trafficking routes.
16:26Furthermore, the statement said a person was killed in the attack and two others survived.
16:31In this sense, this attack is the most recent operation reported under Operation Southern Spear,
16:35which began in September 2025 and has so far resulted in 193 extrajudicial killings in the Caribbean and the eastern
16:42Pacific,
16:43with numerous reports indicating that many of the victims of these attacks were no more than innocent fishermen.
16:55And the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo called for the creation of a humanitarian corridor
17:00to address the Ebola outbreak ravaging the country,
17:03emphasizing the need for a unified national response to contain the epidemic and prevent its spread to new areas.
17:09During a press conference held at the Mama Angebi Studio in the capital, Kinshasa,
17:14Minister of Public Health Samuel Roger Kamba Moulamba highlighted the challenges authorities face in convincing the public
17:19of the severity of the disease and its forms of transmission, knowing that popular beliefs are hindering public health response
17:26efforts.
17:26On May 15, Congolese authorities announced the outbreak of an epidemic caused by the Bundibugio virus,
17:32one of the Ebola strains for which there is still no vaccine or treatment, with a mortality rate reaching 50%,
17:38according to official data.
17:40The Health Minister also urged a unified response across the different regions,
17:43as otherwise it would not be effective in his words.
17:56Now we have our second break, don't go away.
18:11On Tuesday, at least 31 people in Lebanon were killed and over 40 injured amid repeated and intensified Israeli attacks
18:17in violation of the ceasefire.
18:19According to Lebanon's Ministry of Health, among the victims of the latest attacks were numerous sheltering
18:24in Lebanon.
18:24Zionist aggressions targeted multiple areas across southern Lebanon and the Beka Valley, including intensive bombing,
18:30drone raids and artillery shelling targeting towns and villages in Nabatyeh, Binsville, Tireh and the western Beka.
18:37In this regard, Lebanese sources describe these as deliberate attacks on populated residential zones consistent with the Zionist pattern of
18:44war crimes aimed at punishing the Lebanese people for resistance.
18:47Furthermore, these attacks come amid the existing ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that the Zionist entity has consistently violated almost
18:54daily.
19:01The Lebanese Ministry of Health's Emergency Operations Center announced Tuesday evening that the death toll from the Israeli aggression against
19:09Lebanon has risen to 3,213 since March 2, with 9,737 people wounded.
19:16This comes after the Zionist forces issued force evacuation warnings on Tuesday evening to residents of 47 villages and towns
19:24in southern Lebanon and continued its aerial and ulterior bombardment of dozens of villages while drones flew over Lebanese airspace.
19:31The continued Israeli strikes against Lebanon have been internationally condemned as violations of humanitarian law and also representations of the
19:41ceasefire agreed between Lebanon and Israel on April 16th.
19:50And in response to Israel's latest aggression, the Lebanese resistance Hezbollah announced it carried out 32 military operations against Zionist
19:58occupation forces in the southern region.
20:00The Islamic resistance stated on Tuesday that its fighters confronted the Israeli military push with direct ground clashes combined with
20:07intense rocket artillery and drone barrage,
20:10concentrating their strikes around the key town of Sotar al-Sharqiyah.
20:14According to the statement, the operations resulted in the destruction and targeting of multiple Israeli Merkava tanks and armored vehicles,
20:20the assembling of communication systems, the wreck hit on an iron dome platform, and the downing of two Israeli quadcopters.
20:26In this sense, this operation highlighted Hezbollah's continued resistance in defense of the Lebanese people and in the face of
20:33Israel's continued aggression against the nation.
20:42And during a visit to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization headquarters in Rome, Italy,
20:47Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez condemned Israel's mistreatment of a rotilla activist detained while trying to deliver aid to Gaza,
20:55accusing the country of seeking to win a war by subjecting the Palestinian enclave to starvation.
21:01More than 20,000 attacks have been recorded against markets, farmland, and food distribution systems in just the last eight
21:11years.
21:13More than 20,000 attacks.
21:16And this is happening in many war scenarios that we all have in our minds and in our hearts.
21:22Certainly in Gaza, where some seek to win a war by subjecting that people to starvation.
21:28They are, incidentally, the same ones who last week humiliated, abused, and mistreated the members of a flotilla that was
21:34only trying to deliver humanitarian aid.
21:38And in Saudi Arabia, more than 1.7 million Muslim pilgrims perform Eid al-Adha prayers at the Great Mosque
21:45of Mecca as part of the Hajj, the most sacred pilgrimage in Islam.
21:49On May 27, Muslims across the globe celebrate through congregational prayers and rituals one of the biggest festivals in Islam,
21:57the Eid al-Adha, or Feast of Sacrifice,
22:00commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's absolute devotion to God and marks the completion of the Hajj.
22:07This year, a record of over 1.7 million Muslims from 165 nationalities are performing Hajj, the most sacred pilgrimage
22:14in Islam.
22:15In this sense, local authorities revealed that the temperatures during the Hajj remained high, fronting them to make elaborate arrangements
22:21to keep pilgrims hydrated and cool.
22:31And in Palestine, despite the Zionist occupation and constant aggressions, over 140,000 Palestinians performed Eid al-Adha prayers in
22:39the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
22:40Tens of thousands of worshippers took part in the Eid al-Adha prayer on Wednesday morning in the cool years
22:47of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, defying restrictions and facing attacks by Israeli occupation forces.
22:51During the religious ceremony, attendees shanted the traditional tapas of Eid from the holy site, creating an emotional scene of
23:01devotion, connection, and commitment to the preservation of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
23:05For its part, the Zionist military had a strong presence in the old city, with reported acts of aggression and
23:11detained worshippers and journalists.
23:19At the same time, in Russia, thousands of Muslim worshippers also celebrated the Islamic festival Eid al-Adha and participated
23:26in prayers at the Moscow Cathedral mosque on Wednesday.
23:31Footage shows worshippers gathering outside the mosque, lining up in rows and performing their prayers before walking around the mosque
23:38grounds after the service and exchanging greetings with the Iman.
23:42The holiday marks the culmination of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage undertaken by Muslims worldwide to Mecca.
24:03On Wednesday, the Ukrainian armed forces attacked the Crimean city of Sevastopol.
24:07According to Governor Mikhail Rasboz Hayev, air defense units and mobile air defense teams repelled a combined attack on Sevastopol
24:15throughout the night.
24:16The Ukrainian military attacked the city with various aerial capabilities, including storm-shadow missiles.
24:23On his telegram account, he stated that over 20 drones were downed over the north side area, fueling the Bay
24:29of Sevastopol and Omega Bay.
24:31One of the missiles hit the southern main branch of the central bank building in Sevastopol, setting the roof on
24:37fire and breaking the windows of nearby buildings.
24:40There were also reports of damage to several apartments and administrative buildings, but no casualties have been reported so far.
24:52At this, we have come to the end of this newsgroup.
24:53You can find more on our website at telestoreenglish.net and also on our social media.
