00:00Minister Goyal, what a phenomenal job that you've done, bringing one of the largest
00:05delegations from India to Canada in the history. And so welcome everyone, welcome to Toronto,
00:10welcome to Canada. Of course, I want to welcome everyone here with the sun behind me instead
00:16of the snow. It's much easier to walk around here in Toronto when you're not in your snowshoes.
00:21So thank you so much for taking the time. So let me say something very plainly before I go
00:26into the substance of today. The world is being reshaped. Supply chains are shifting. Old
00:32assumptions are breaking down. Markets that used to feel stable are proving anything but.
00:37And in the middle of all that, Canada made a deliberate choice that we are not going to sit
00:41around and wait out the uncertainty. We are going to lean in. As a former businessman, I know what
00:47that means. And Minister Goyal, as a fellow former businessman, I know you can understand this too.
00:52The biggest results don't come to those who have a stable. To those who wait, they come
00:57to those that lean in, form new partnerships, and build stronger economic relationships.
01:03As Prime Minister Karnia said, if you're not at the table, you are on the menu, and Canada
01:07is certainly at the table. Right now, Canada is negotiating more trade agreements than at any
01:13point in history. Here in Canada, trade powers our economy. 70% of our economy and trade agreements
01:19play an important role in powering our economy. We have CETA with the European Union, one of the
01:25most comprehensive trade agreements in the world. We have the CBTPP opening markets into the Indo-Pacific.
01:31And we signed a new agreement with Indonesia, destined to be the fifth largest economy in the world.
01:36And we are pushing forward on negotiations with Thailand, with Philippines, with the UAE, with ASEAN.
01:42And of course, we're driving forward our emergency negotiations with Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
01:47We signed a foreign investment agreement with the UAE, 10 years in the making, and we got
01:52it done more than two months. We have hired more trade negotiators on our trade team, and
01:56we are accelerating rounds. My WhatsApp has been busier than ever. The world wants more
02:01Canada, and people are messaging them around the world.
02:04Terrific. Thank you so much, Minister Sidhu. Really appreciate those words of setting the
02:09situation for us here for the rest of the day and for the future ahead of us.
02:15Our next speaker is, of course, the Honorable Phyush Goyal, India's Minister of Commerce
02:20and Industry, one of the principal architects of India's trade and investment strategy.
02:26Over the last seven years, Minister Goyal has overseen major reforms in logistics, infrastructure,
02:31and industrial policy, and has led India's engagement in key global economic forums.
02:37That it's real. It's wrong. Minister Goyal brought over 800 business leaders to Canada.
02:43That is his story, as if the largest business delegation Canada has ever hosted from India.
02:48Please, a big round of applause.
02:55That tells you everything about the confidence that both India and Canadian businesses have in this partnership.
03:02Our job now is to turn that confidence into contracts, into joint ventures, into supply chain partnership,
03:08into investments that create jobs in both our countries.
03:11The momentum is here, and now it's time to build. Thank you very much.
03:17Our CEOs and CTOs of companies, we also have significant decision-makers.
03:25We also have entrepreneurs, particularly seven women entrepreneurs who have joined us.
03:32We have start-ups. We have large companies, conglomerates, and MSMs.
03:39People from the world of technology, be it AI, be it quantum computing.
03:48We have businesses from the agri-sector, from banking, finance, insurance, you name it.
04:00And I can pick up one or the other of the delegates who have come here.
04:05The dynamism of the Indian economy will ensure that for the next 30 years,
04:12we will continue to be the fastest growing large economy.
04:20A country that is investing deeply in its people, building talent, skills.
04:33A country that is making sure that all the basic needs that a person needs are all provided for.
04:41For every child born in the country, so that young India today, connected with the world through the internet.
04:51I'm sure you're all aware we have one billion internet users in India.
04:58Incidentally, the second largest cohort of child GBT users also sits in India.
05:07And these billion young married women, boys and girls, are watching us in Toronto today.
05:17They are connected with what's happening in different parts of the world.
05:24They are looking for their aspiration.
05:26They are looking for a better quality of life.
05:29They are looking for all the good things that are available anywhere in the world.
05:37They are looking for opportunities.
05:39They are looking to work and work hard.
05:46And a young population drives not only economic growth.
05:55A young population drives engagement.
05:59A young population drives that desire to look at life with a new enthusiasm.
06:11And friends, today they both trust each other.
06:17They both believe in the Canada-India partnership.
06:22And they both can see that there is a lot of potential that has remained untapped.
06:33And I have therefore tasked Maninder and me to make sure that we work in mission mode.
06:41We finalize another very comprehensive economic partnership before the end of the year.
06:52Prime Minister Kani yesterday has shaved off one more month.
06:55He's dated the end of November now.
06:57In my meeting along with Maninder with him yesterday.
07:02He wants us to deliver before the G20 leaders summit.
07:09Thank God, Maninder, he didn't say we should deliver before the G20 trade minister.
07:15But that is in October.
07:19But possibly we can.
07:22And it's for the businesses of both countries to spur our two negotiators.
07:29Bruce and Rich.
07:32See how beautiful it sounds?
07:34Bruce and Rich.
07:40This one is for both of you.
07:44And I suspect the sincerity that I have seen in both the negotiating teams.
07:50Don't be surprised if they actually can deliver even faster than targeted.
07:59Friends, the future is ours.
08:03You have to seize the moment.
08:05Prime Minister often uses one's faith.
08:09I'll say it in Hindi.
08:11I'll translate it for the friends from Canada.
08:16Yahi samayi hai.
08:19Sahi samayi hai.
08:21This is the moment.
08:25This is the right moment.
08:27e samayi hai.
08:34That's the moment.
