00:00A group of women and girls gathering in their city to learn about their history
00:04should not feel like a radical thing to do.
00:11I'm interrupting our usual content today to have a conversation I wish we didn't have to have,
00:16but a conversation that feels important nonetheless.
00:19On Sunday, one of our tour guides was leading a tour.
00:22A small group of women, mainly mums and their teenage daughters,
00:24before the tour could even begin, a group of around 20 teenage boys on e-bikes approached.
00:31They surrounded the group and started asking if they could join the tour.
00:34When the guide said no, they continued to push and heckle.
00:38They didn't stop.
00:39When the women moved away, the boys followed.
00:42They mocked them, they harassed them.
00:45Someone in the tour eventually called the police.
00:48The teenage girls on the tour were the least shocked of all.
00:51They felt like this was completely normal behaviour.
00:55It makes me feel sad that this type of behaviour is so expected.
00:59A group of women and girls gathering in their city to learn about their history
01:03should not feel like a radical thing to do.
01:06Sadly, this is not at all an uncommon experience.
01:09Every day, women in cities all around the world are made to feel unsafe and like they don't belong.
01:14This is by far the worst incident we've ever experienced on one of our tours.
01:18She Shapes History is not just about remembering women from the past.
01:21We also ask very important questions.
01:23Who gets remembered?
01:24Who gets to move from A to B freely?
01:26Who gets to feel safe, welcome and visible in public life?
01:29Who still gets told, you don't belong here?
01:32That's why this conversation matters now more than ever.
01:34Because history is not behind us.
01:36We tell stories of women who were bold.
01:39Who took up space in art, in politics, in sport and in the streets.
01:43Even when they were told, you don't belong here.
01:46And on Sunday, this history felt very present.
01:48So yes, this situation is far from what we want our tours to look like.
01:52But it's made us more determined than ever to keep walking, keep talking, keep telling the truth, keep taking up
01:58space.
