00:03Okay, we have Christian Pulisic and Tim Ream. We'll start right in front here.
00:08Hey guys, congratulations and thanks so much for your time.
00:11Christian, I wanted to ask you, the pressure of, they've made you the face of this World Cup.
00:18I don't think it's anything you ask for. You're doing a lot of promotional spots and things like that.
00:23I'm wondering if you feel the pressure of that, does it affect you at all?
00:28And just the time that you have to spend doing all these promotional things, is it wearing you out?
00:35No, I feel like I've been asked this question so many times, so I'm not going to get into it
00:38anymore.
00:39I mean, there's pressure. It's a World Cup. I understand that's what people have to do.
00:44They have to find ways to put pressure on the players, and I get it.
00:49I'm really grateful to be in this position. It's exactly what I want.
00:52I have a chance to help my country to perform at a World Cup, and I'm lucky.
00:57And when it comes to the promotional things, I mean, it's not something I love.
01:01I mean, you guys know me by now enough that I'm not, like, the most outgoing guy.
01:05I love to do all these types of things, but, you know, you only have a World Cup in your
01:09home country once in your life.
01:12So I'm going to take advantage of these opportunities, and I'm grateful I get to do this.
01:21Hey, guys. Question for both of you right here.
01:23If you could each answer it, please.
01:25It's been very nearly eight years since this World Cup was announced.
01:29When did it start to feel real for you, if it has?
01:35For me, it started to feel real at the turn of the new year.
01:38You know, once the groups got, you know, sorted out in December and announced,
01:46and then as the new year turned, for me, that's when it became, okay, it's on our doorstep now.
01:53And, you know, seeing all the different branding and things that are, you know, being put up around the country,
02:04it's made it that much more real in the past couple weeks.
02:07And question?
02:11I think I've kind of felt it on the horizon.
02:14Obviously, you know, you're focusing on what you're doing at your club,
02:17but I'd say once I got here and kind of was with the team and felt these fans and the
02:24support around
02:24and the buzz around the World Cup is, I guess, when I really started to feel it, I guess, if
02:29I had to pick a moment.
02:31Do you have a second word?
02:32A question for both of you.
02:34Obviously, second World Cup for both of you.
02:37But when you got the word that you were on the team, what was the overriding emotion?
02:42And that these last few weeks had some stress involved just in the lead-up to this announcement?
02:51I'm usually a pretty cool customer.
02:53But, yeah, there was definitely some anxiety, some nerves, you know, going on in the last couple weeks.
03:02But, you know, it's one of those that you, when you want something so bad
03:07and you want to be a part of something that's much bigger than yourself,
03:11that tends to happen.
03:14So definitely a lot of, for me, I'm not, again, I'm not overly emotional,
03:20but it was definitely a relief.
03:22And there were a little bit of, there was a little bit of quivering for sure with my family when
03:29I found out.
03:32Yeah, I mean, he said, you know, we want this so bad.
03:36So, you know, if you're not a little bit nervous, you don't feel it a little bit, you know, you
03:40don't care.
03:41So we care so much.
03:42And, yeah, it means a lot to us.
03:44We want to do our best, represent this country the best we can.
03:46And, yeah, the nerves are there.
03:48You get the excitement.
03:49You feel those jitters.
03:51And now that we're here, hopefully we can just try to live in the moment and do the best we
03:55can.
03:56Hi, here, Christian.
03:59First of all, I'm Jan Tellez from FNU's agency.
04:03I wanted to ask you, which objectives do you have in this World Cup as a team, qualifying group stage,
04:10reaching quarterfinals, round of 16?
04:15If you can tell me a little bit about it.
04:17Thanks.
04:18Yeah, I mean, for us, there's no reason to put an exact target of what's successful World Cup.
04:23I don't really like to do that.
04:24For us, there's really multiple stages.
04:27First is the group stage.
04:28We have to go game by game.
04:29We want to get through the group stage.
04:31That's goal number one.
04:33Once we can knock that off and accomplish that, then we go into the knockout rounds, and it's game by
04:37game.
04:38And you're never going to be happy going out whenever you go out.
04:40So we're going to do the best we can.
04:43And we're going to compete, and, you know, we can decide after how we feel about how it did.
04:50Christian, right here on the left side.
04:51Andy Jones, Believe Network.
04:53From the pop doll collection that's been growing to Hershey having your full name on it, what's been the coolest
05:00promotion for you in this full buildup of many great promotions?
05:04And how was it like being on stage with Gunna performing on that stage there?
05:09When it comes to the sponsors, I think you nailed it with the Hershey's one.
05:15For me, it's obviously just something really close to home.
05:17Growing up in Hershey, being kind of on a chocolate bar, I think that was the one that kind of
05:22hit me the most.
05:23Like, just special for me, I mean, to see that.
05:26Even more so for my brother and my mom, and they're all so excited.
05:30And then, oh, Gunna, yeah, I didn't see that coming at all, honestly.
05:35So they surprised me with that one.
05:37So they got him out.
05:40That was a pretty cool performance.
05:42I had to get my phone out and take a video.
05:44I got excited, you know, so it was a –
05:46Unlike other things, we kept Gunna's surprise.
05:48Yeah, so it was pretty cool.
05:50Yeah, go ahead.
05:51Christian, just curious where you are health-wise, you know, and how confident you are that the goals are going
05:57to come, you know, now that you're back with the U.S. team.
06:01And, sorry, Tim, I also want to ask you, now that the team has been –
06:06Now that the team has been – sorry.
06:07Now that the team has been selected, is it easier in a way?
06:10Like, obviously, there's, you know, some nerves and stuff in the lead-up, but now you know the group.
06:14Like, does that help, in a way, just get you focused on the task at hand?
06:18Thanks.
06:20Yeah, I – I don't even remember the question about if the goals are going to come.
06:27Yeah, health.
06:27Yeah, health feels great.
06:30Tyler.
06:32Health feels great, yeah, going into the tournament, so looking forward to that and feeling great.
06:37And, yeah, I'm confident that good things are going to come.
06:41You know, we have all the opportunities ahead of us, and, you know, you make a couple good plays in
06:45a tournament like this,
06:47and, yeah, things change fast.
06:53Honestly, it didn't really matter what or who was going to be in the 26th.
06:58I think everybody knows what the standards and expectations are with Mauricio and his staff.
07:04And I think it allows really everybody individually to now say, okay, this is where we are.
07:14This is what we have to do.
07:15This is what we need to do.
07:18But that would have been the case no matter who was here.
07:20So, yeah, I think now that we know who, you know, who's in the group and, you know, what the
07:27group is going forward,
07:28you know, we can fully focus on the first game.
07:32And as I said outside, that starts tomorrow with the very first training session.
07:37All right.
07:38Two things.
07:38First, Tim, what was the scene when the e-mail popped in for you on Friday?
07:44Were you at home?
07:44Did you turn on your laptop?
07:46Did it pop on your phone with the video?
07:48I was actually leaving the training ground, walking to my car with a box full of bobbleheads to take home
07:55to my kids.
07:56And my WhatsApp started to go a little bit crazy with, yeah, the video that got put in.
08:06So that was my scene, walking down a tunnel in Charlotte.
08:11But, you know, it made me stop in my tracks, to be completely honest, and immediately call my wife and,
08:20you know, let her know.
08:22Because, you know, we've both been, as I said before, both been anxious and excited for the announcement.
08:28And for both of you or either, has there been any contact with the players who didn't make it with
08:33either conversations of consolation or text messages?
08:38Not up to this point.
08:40There will be.
08:41There's so many group chats, you know, that have been formed over the past year and a half, two years.
08:47So I actually just saw a few guys jump into one of them from the Gold Cup last year.
08:53So, yeah, there's not been a whole lot.
08:56It's been since Friday.
08:58It's been crazy with everything, trying to sort and figure out, you know, flights and travel and packing.
09:06And so, you know, there's not been a moment piece to just sit back and reach out to guys.
09:12So I'm sure that will start to happen here soon.
09:16Christian, where were you when you got the WhatsApp?
09:19I was also at the training ground, just relaxing kind of in my room there.
09:24And then, yeah, I saw the group message pop up and got excited for sure.
09:29It's a huge honor.
09:58Hey, Tim.
10:00I said that after, obviously, 2022.
10:03And, you know, when I left there after a few weeks, I thought, well, I may as well push and
10:10do everything I possibly can to try to make a second one.
10:15For me, it's, you know, the feeling and the thought and overarching theme is I've done everything I possibly can
10:23to be sitting here, to be a part of this group, to be a part of, you know, the World
10:27Cup and make a second World Cup and have it be on home soil.
10:33So I'm proud of the fact that all the decisions that I've made, all the work that I've done on
10:39and off the field has landed me, you know, a second opportunity.
10:47Hey, guys, just for both of you, you've both played for so many different managers, so many elite managers at
10:53both club and country level.
10:54I just wondered, what is it that makes Maurizio different and what sort of weapon do you think he'll be
11:00going into a tournament like this?
11:06Yeah, I mean, obviously, it just brings a lot of experience, coached a lot of top clubs around the world.
11:13And going into a tournament like this, you know, he'll be relaxed and ready to, yeah, give us the right
11:19game plan, get us motivated and ready to compete.
11:22I think that's what he's best at.
11:23And, yeah, we're going to be ready.
11:26I think one of the things that I've noticed over the past year and a half, two years, is he
11:34knows when to press buttons and he knows how to connect everybody.
11:40He puts us into situations where we're able to feel very, very close and connected on and off the field.
11:48And that translates, you know, to guys putting in that extra work, the extra effort.
11:54He knows when it's time to work and he demands the work and demands the focus and demands the intensity.
12:02But then at the same time, you know, as you wind down, he can step back.
12:08And as we're off the field, it's calm.
12:12So being able to man-manage, really, and understand when is a time to push and work and when is
12:20a time to bring guys together and bring them closer is a, you know, a really, really incredible tool, you
12:29know, in his armory to use for this group and everybody that he's worked with.
12:35Okay.
12:35We'll do one more for Christian Linton.
12:37And then we'll be Weston and Tyler.
12:41Guys, something, I forget who it was in here who said that it was almost eight years ago where this
12:47tournament was announced.
12:48USA qualified for this tournament eight years ago.
12:50There are teams that just qualified for this tournament in March, including Turkey, who you guys are going up against.
12:56What sort of disadvantages does that put on you guys where, you know, they have the momentum versus you guys
13:02who you're training hard, you're playing these friendlies, but they're the ones playing these competitive games.
13:06What is that, you know, what kind of feeling is that for you guys, and how do you use these
13:12next two friendlies to get into a World Cup mode?
13:16Have you even thought about it?
13:17Not really.
13:20I mean, yeah, I remember enjoying the qualifying process as well, like definitely some tough games, and it was very
13:29rewarding at the end of it.
13:30But at the end of the day, we play against each other on June 12th or whatever it is, and,
13:36you know, everything that happened in the past doesn't matter.
13:38So we go, and we're two teams competing, and we want to win, and they want to win.
13:43So that's just how it's going to be.
13:45It doesn't really matter what's happened in the past.
13:47Yeah, it's a World Cup.
13:48It doesn't matter what's happened.
13:50This is it.
13:52This is the pinnacle, and, you know, no matter what happened last fall, you know, before the Gold Cup, it's
14:00all in the past.
14:02Yes, you can learn from it, but it's not going to change what the intensity and what the level of
14:09play is, and we are a group who understands that.
14:14And now we have a group of players who have been through that in 2022 and can use that experience
14:21for this one.
14:23Hey, Christian.
14:24Thank you.
14:29Am I sponsored?
14:30Have you paid me?
14:32Technically, yeah.
14:34I'd like to see everybody's in a good room.
14:38Okay.
14:39Start back.
14:40Why does this mic feel so high?
14:43Tyler, question for you.
14:45Being from Wappingers Falls, a small town, can you reflect on your journey from there to this stage and what
14:54it means to be playing in a World Cup on home soil?
14:59Yeah, long journey.
15:02Yeah, Wappingers isn't too far from here.
15:03I spent a lot of time in the city growing up just playing in the best tournaments I could find.
15:09It feels like everything has kind of come full circle.
15:11I think, you know, having a roster announcement in your home state where you have friends and family, you know,
15:16coming to an event like this is really, really special.
15:19So, I'm excited to have the opportunity to represent and then, obviously, be back with the team.
15:25From the road to your left.
15:26Hey, guys.
15:27This is kind of for both of you.
15:28First of all, congrats on officially making the roster.
15:30Both of you are leaders on this team.
15:32Tyler, you wore the armband in 2022 in Weston.
15:34You've obviously been a key key part.
15:36For both of you, has there been a decision on who will wear the armband at this tournament?
15:40Will you guys vote?
15:41And for either one of you, if you were able to be wearing the armband, what would that mean for
15:46you?
15:46Thank you.
15:48No, I think so far, Tim Rima has been captaining the past games as well.
15:54And it's been also Chris Richards.
15:55But I think in this team, we have a lot of experienced guys where, you know, anyone could wear the
16:01captain armband and take on their responsibility.
16:04Because at the end of the day, it's still a whole team that has to go out there and perform.
16:07And we are all family and like brothers, and we all love each other like family.
16:14So I think it doesn't matter who you put the armband on, everyone's going to go out there and fight
16:18just the same.
16:20And obviously, I think for both of us, I could probably say that if one of us were to have
16:25the armband, it would mean everything also.
16:28But even if we don't, we're still going to go out there and do what we have to do.
16:33Yeah, same.
16:35Just for a point of information, Tim Rima has been the cap at 16 of the 23 matches that Reese
16:41has been.
16:43Exactly.
16:46Hi, guys.
16:47Thanks for doing this.
16:48Just wanted to ask what you made of sort of the fanfare of this whole event, right?
16:53You have Gunnar showing up.
16:54You've got videos and this, that, and the other.
16:56Just your general thoughts there.
17:02That's America.
17:06I'd expect nothing less.
17:07Do you know what I mean?
17:08It's a huge event, the biggest event that the U.S. will host.
17:14Yeah, it's kind of what I expected, to be quite honest with you.
17:19I guess I have one for each of you.
17:21First of all, Tyler, from what Morseo told us, like, it sounds like you'll be trusted greatly to man defensive
17:29midfield, possibly even as a lone six.
17:31So I just want to get your thoughts on that and how you approach that task as you kind of
17:36go into your second World Cup.
17:37And then I'll ask Wes after that, if that's okay.
17:40Yeah.
17:42I mean, I've played in a lot of different formations in my career.
17:45I feel like at this point in my career, I'm able to adjust and adapt to different situations.
17:50I think it will be something that we train, I'm sure, going into the first two friendlies.
17:54And I'm happy we have that preparation just to try different things, iron out details, whatever it might be.
18:00But, yeah, I'm confident if I play by myself, play double pivot with someone like Weston, who I have chemistry
18:06with.
18:08Yeah, you just figure it out.
18:10And, Wes, you've been a Swiss Army knife for your club for so many years.
18:14It seems to be central to who you are, playing all these different roles, maybe even in the same game.
18:19I just wonder if you expect a similar experience, if your versatility will be called upon again,
18:24or do you have a role that you want to play and maybe could have a little more stability this
18:28summer?
18:29I mean, I think my mentality and the experiences I've had throughout my career,
18:34I think I'm just someone that any way I can help the team, I'm willing to do it.
18:40And whether that's, you know, called upon to play as an eight, which is a position I do prefer,
18:46or called as a right wing back or a striker or a center back or a goalkeeper or even just
18:51supporting from the sideline,
18:52I think obviously whatever it is, I forgot striker too, yeah.
18:55And whatever it is, I think I'll be prepared and be able to adjust because I think that's just the
19:01type of player I am
19:02and whatever the coach needs, I'll be there to help out.
19:08Hi guys, a question for both of you.
19:10Mauricio has been in charge of the team for a while now.
19:13Can you talk about when you first met him and how the reception was for him and his style
19:21and how he has come and involved and adjusted as he spent more time here in the United States
19:28than obviously with the team?
19:30Yeah, I think it's an interesting one because it's probably, I can't speak for him,
19:35but it's probably a unique transition to, you know, go from club football where you work with a team every
19:39single day,
19:40Tony having five international windows a year to try and, you know, get these players to understand how I want
19:45to play,
19:46how I act, what he wants from the players, just those relationships.
19:50And I think a tournament like Gold Cup, for instance, which I played in and you spend 40 some odd
19:55days together,
19:56you really get an understanding of one another and what he looks for.
19:59But he's helped our team tremendously.
20:01I think he's changed the culture of the way that we approach things.
20:03And I think having someone that's a foreigner to our country but not a foreigner to the game of football
20:08because he's been around it, played it at such a high level, coached at such a high level,
20:12we really lean on him for his experiences.
20:14So I think it's been a very positive assignment.
20:22Yeah, no, I mean, I wasn't able to be at Gold Cup, so obviously I've had, you know, shorter experiences
20:30with him.
20:31But I think it's kind of like what he said, bringing a different mindset, bringing a culture to the group.
20:37And, you know, his South American mentality, he loves to be feisty, be very close together with the guys.
20:45And I think ultimately he's benefited our team in many ways.
20:49But I think mostly in a sense of making sure that everyone knows that day in and day out in
20:55training,
20:56you have to compete for your spot and nothing is solidified, nothing is safe,
21:00and everyone here has an opportunity.
21:02So, yeah.
21:05I'm done.
21:06Okay.
21:09Obviously it's the second World Cup for both of you.
21:11In what ways do you draw on past experiences, be it with your club or at a World Cup,
21:18to kind of help you navigate the challenges ahead?
21:23Yeah, I think obviously playing at club level, you just –
21:29it's different than playing at the national team level because you have different tactics,
21:32different coaches, different environment, different everything, different pressures.
21:36But playing in a World Cup, as both of us have,
21:40I think the experiences you take away from it is that if you connect a good enough amount of streams
21:46or games together, you can go as far as you possibly can.
21:50It's something that you have to take at a game at a time.
21:55Everyone that competes in the World Cup competes to win.
21:57They don't come just to have a vacation or come just to say they've been in a World Cup.
22:01They come with the mentality of winning.
22:03That's what competitors do.
22:04That's what we do.
22:05And so I think obviously, yeah, the experiences we took from the last one is that –
22:10to take it game by game and focus on what's in front of us.
22:15To your right.
22:17Wes, didn't you play on the lift at one point this year?
22:21Probably.
22:21If you're asking the question, you probably know it better than me.
22:25Yeah, I've played almost everywhere.
22:28I've played nine different positions this season, I believe.
22:30All right.
22:31My actual question for both of you.
22:33If my math is right, which maybe, you were 19 years old when you found out the World Cup
22:38was going to be here this year.
22:40When did it start to feel real, if it has?
22:45I would probably say for me it started to feel real probably after my season finished
22:51because we had a lot of pressures at our club level.
22:55And obviously I'm someone that likes to think about what's in the present and what's happening now.
22:59So I wanted to just finish my season off with Juventus.
23:03And then after that, you know, coming here and seeing, you know, the show that we have here
23:09and the outcome of all the fans coming, I think it'll start to hit me more now than ever.
23:14And then obviously whenever you get the message that you're named to the roster,
23:19that's another big moment where you realize, okay, like, it's starting.
23:25Yeah, I'm similar.
23:27I mean, two days ago I was playing against Nottingham Forest, you know, hoping to achieve something.
23:33Yesterday got off the plane and we're in Times Square.
23:37I think it'll probably hit tomorrow, to be honest with you, when we start training properly
23:40and just really start preparing for these friendlies and then the tournament to begin
23:46because, again, the season is long, enduring, and you really need to shift the mindset.
23:51And I think once you get out on the grass with the boys, you start, you know, going through training
23:56and stuff like that, trying to organize things, prepare for the games, it starts to feel more real.
24:01So, congrats, again, to you both for making this roster, it's always a big achievement.
24:07For you first, TA4, TA12.
24:09For you, Tyler, you see the Knicks having the big playoff run right now in the finals.
24:14That's right.
24:15Using that, what's been your perspective and getting even more energy from the determination
24:19you get from that.
24:20And for you, Weston, just want to ask you, with Ken Ayeldas being your teammate on Juventus,
24:26and are you playing with him Turkey 8?
24:28Just your thoughts about saying you're going to get the victory over him.
24:30And you being a pop doll along with Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna.
24:34So, you first, Tyler.
24:38Nick's in four, baby.
24:40No, I'm excited about, you know, the Knicks making the run that they're on.
24:44I was hoping game four was at Madison Square Garden last night, and I would have been able
24:47to make an appearance.
24:48But, no, excited for them to make their first finals appearance in so long.
24:52Something special for the city.
24:53So, if they win a championship, I'm sure the city will go crazy.
24:58Behind closed doors, he's not a Knicks fan, just to let you guys know.
25:01So, it's a wild statement.
25:04Wild statement.
25:05Honestly.
25:07No, but I think...
25:08I'm a Mavs fan.
25:09I'm not either, so...
25:11Wizards.
25:11What are you?
25:12Really?
25:13What are you?
25:13I don't watch basketball, so...
25:18No, I mean, I think it's going to be an amazing feeling if I'm called upon to play
25:23in that game against Turkey.
25:26You know, Kenan is such a talented player.
25:28He's a player that I kind of try and take under my wing back at Juventus, and someone
25:34that I seem like a little brother.
25:36I always joke with him, always crack jokes, and sometimes invite him over to the house
25:40for dinner or go play golf together, just try and do other things, because I know what
25:46it's like to be young and to be in the position that he's in when everything's coming at you
25:51fast, and you're getting the big contracts, and you're getting the starlighting, you're
25:56getting all this stuff, and it can be really challenging for someone at that age.
26:00So I think, obviously, he's taken it with such grace and taken it very humbled in a
26:05humble way, and so, yeah, I mean, it'll be amazing to be able to see him and then just
26:11be like, hey, like, welcome, you know?
26:13He's playing in the World Cup for the first time, and it'll be, yeah, an amazing experience
26:17for him and for me as well.
26:22Three and a half years since the last World Cup, half the rosters changed over, and
26:26obviously the rest of you are a lot older.
26:29Has the personality of the group changed over the time?
26:36Personality change?
26:37I don't think so.
26:38I think you just go through experiences that, yeah, change how you need to act probably
26:42a little bit more.
26:43But I feel like when I come around these guys, I'm always able to be myself.
26:47I think people probably don't really understand.
26:49When you play in a foreign country, you're around a lot of foreigners, and you don't always
26:54get to act and be yourself.
26:56These guys I've known since I was, I don't know, 14, 15 years old, and it always feels
27:00like home coming back here, whether we're playing here, Atlanta, wherever it is.
27:05So it's always special to be back here.
27:06But of course you change.
27:07You get older.
27:08You experience new things.
27:09But we lean on those experiences for anything.
27:12Are you saying, I feel like home?
27:15Oh, thank you.
27:18Not anymore.
27:22He hasn't matured.
27:25No, I think obviously for personality, I don't know.
27:30I think new guys coming in bring new personality.
27:33But ultimately, we have known each other for so long.
27:37And whether I've known him since I'm 14 years old, but maybe he knows someone else that's
27:42coming in that he's known since he was a kid as well.
27:44So I think everyone has a comfortability with each other, a freedom to be themselves, to
27:50be who they are.
27:51And also, it's something that's big and important as well when it comes to training in games.
27:57Because whenever you have that comfortability level with the players next to you, you can
28:02be completely honest with them and you can hold them accountable and understand who they
28:07are.
28:07I think it adds an extra effect whenever I know about him and his family and how he
28:13came up and where he comes from and the guy next to me.
28:17Because that adds a little bit of extra desire to want to run through a wall for them and
28:22to do more for them.
28:23Because you know where they come from and you know a lot about them.
28:26So I think personality-wise, I think whoever has come into this group and who is here right
28:30now, everyone has that feeling together.
28:34Thank you, Weston, thank you, Robert, thank you, everybody.
28:37Thank you, sir.
28:38See you soon.
