Just love to work, love hard work.
00:04
Hey Jalen, with you and Nick Sirianni,
00:10
how has your relationship grown over the last year?
00:13
It's just grown day by day.
00:15
We obviously all, both of us, love to work, love hard work.
00:20
I have a ton of grit to ourselves and we're passionate about that
00:24
and we express that through our work.
00:26
So I think it's been able to grow and evolve
00:28
and be good.
00:31
How much work goes into it that we obviously don't get to see?
00:34
There's a lot of work that everyone doesn't see in any and everything.
00:40
But it's about the collective, about the collective.
00:46
At collective, Jalen, Nick always preaches sustained success
00:51
as he enters the season.
00:53
You guys have had a pretty significant degree of that.
00:57
Is there something, as your fifth year as a star,
01:01
is there something that's resonated that has enabled you as a group
01:05
to have that sustained success?
01:09
Yeah.
01:09
Yeah, I think it's just a mentality that's preached
01:12
and I think it's the lessons learned over time.
01:15
You know, I think all of us in this building have learned a ton of lessons
01:18
throughout our journeys here.
01:21
And I know Coach Sirianni can speak to that.
01:22
I can speak to that.
01:24
As a unit, we can speak to that.
01:25
And as a unit, we've evolved and been able to find different ways to win
01:29
on both sides of the ball.
01:31
And so that's what it's about, really being able to remain a sponge,
01:35
remain diligent in everything and learn from all of your experiences.
01:37
That's how you grow.
01:38
A question about the new guys coming in.
01:42
I mean, last year, you've afforded you guys some instant credibility
01:44
for, I don't know, buy-in and whatnot.
01:46
What did you see in terms of that with new guys coming in
01:49
and the buy-in in terms of what you guys were trying to do?
01:52
Who are you talking about?
01:53
New players that weren't a part of last year,
01:55
whether it's rookies or otherwise.
01:57
What did you see?
01:57
Yeah, well, speaking on this year, you know,
02:00
you don't know what the iteration of the team will be
02:03
until you get out there and you get into some live bullets on live fire,
02:08
if you will.
02:09
And so, you know, we try and establish a good thing
02:13
and try and, you know, obviously try and set the right example
02:16
and try and work really hard to set that example.
02:23
Ultimately, you know, it takes the togetherness
02:26
and it takes the kind of evolution of just learning from everything
02:30
that we go through as a team.
02:31
And so that's the exciting part about embarking on a new journey
02:35
is it's a new group and it'll be a new iteration of what this team is.
02:40
I think back to last instance, you made a comment that the offense
02:43
might not look the way people want it to look,
02:45
but it's going to look the way Jalen Hurts wants it to look.
02:47
As you've kind of grown in your career,
02:50
how have you made it your offense?
02:52
You know, because obviously you're the constant despite all the changes.
02:56
Yeah, just being that.
02:57
I think just being present, just being present
02:59
and examining my game and saying, how can I evolve and how can I grow?
03:04
Yet, number one, maintaining the main priority.
03:07
And so that's what the objective has always been.
03:10
It's always been that.
03:11
And it's going to continue to be that regardless of how it looks as a team.
03:15
We just want to go out there and play efficient football,
03:18
go out there and play efficient football
03:19
and find ways to score more points on the other side.
03:22
It takes a collective group effort.
03:24
From the outside looking in, we've always known, I guess, to be confident.
03:29
But are you more authoritative with your voice?
03:33
Because, you know, five years in, you've built that type of equity here.
03:36
I think, you know, it's just like equity.
03:39
I think that's a great word that comes in time in anything.
03:41
You know, you let it sit there.
03:42
You saturate.
03:43
You learn.
03:43
And you do grow and you evolve as a person.
03:46
So I think that's been a natural maturation for me.
03:49
I've always spoke about how experience is the biggest teacher.
03:51
I've said that since I was a rookie when I didn't have the experience as a pro quarterback.
03:56
And now the experience has definitely added up.
03:59
And there's still more out there to go do and accomplish, ultimately.
04:03
It's just about being a student.
04:05
You know, I've had all these coaches every single year,
04:07
and I've been able to take so much from each one.
04:10
And those are the things that I lean on as a player.
04:12
And I lean on that.
04:13
And then I lean on how can I apply that to whomever the OC is.
04:17
And so it's just, you know, it's just a process that I've had to put myself through.
04:23
But ultimately, as a team, collectively, finding ways to do that and be successful as offense.
04:29
And, you know, it doesn't matter how it looks to me.
04:31
I just want to go out there and find ways to win and play efficient football and, you know, push the needle.
04:37
You've been on some great teams and won championships.
04:41
Can you visibly feel or physically feel or visibly see when a team is coming to play a team that won a championship
04:49
or that was really good that you're getting their A game because of that?
04:55
Well, it's NFL.
04:57
You know, it's a competitive league.
04:59
So it's that, I mean, I have that mentality, the mentality of going out there and competing
05:04
and trying to compete at that level, you know, every time I step on the field.
05:09
And everyone should have that mentality, you know, and kind of keep it that way.
05:14
It should grow and evolve as you grow.
05:17
In your experience, week one versus, I don't know, week eight, week ten,
05:23
there's a lot of unscouted looks, I imagine, a lot of they have a new defensive coordinator.
05:28
How much is that different just coming in week one versus later in the season?
05:36
Can you say that again?
05:37
I'm sorry.
05:38
Week one game, there's a lot of uncertainty.
05:41
They just traded Micah.
05:42
They have a new defensive coordinator.
05:44
How does that different from, say, when you have a bunch of tape on a team,
05:49
whether it's week eight, week ten, or is it similar for you?
05:53
You know, all those things come into consideration, but there's still so much unknown.
05:57
So, you don't know.
05:59
Ultimately, you've got to trust the technique and trust the fundamentals that you've been practicing,
06:03
you know, all summer and all camp to this point, and just go out there and play clean football.
06:08
How's the Cowboys going to get up without Micah?
06:11
It's going out there and trying to prepare to play a really good team as is and focus on that.
06:19
When we talk about identity, it seems like that's something that presents itself at a certain point.
06:24
But when you guys have had success doing certain things, is there a temptation to lean in on those things?
06:29
Yeah, whatever it takes to win.
06:36
I think definitely, yeah, whatever it takes to win.
06:39
Ultimately, we follow the direction in the head of the coaches.
06:41
And so, whatever direction they lead us in, that's what we do.
06:45
And we evolve if needed.
06:47
You know, it's kind of like you escalated if it needs to be escalated.
06:49
But, you know, we just, you know, we don't know who we are right now.
06:53
You know, so we just want to go in and have a really good week of prep and go out there
06:58
and try and establish what we want to be.
07:01
I know you don't want to look back to last year, but you guys finished that postseason
07:05
where you were a really powerful score and I think 36 points a game offense.
07:11
Can you take from that into this season?
07:15
Is there things that you can take from what you were doing when you were on that run?
07:18
And build off and into the season?
07:21
It's a new season.
07:22
It's a new season.
07:23
It's a new journey.
07:24
So, who knows?
07:26
I asked Nick earlier this morning about what he's emphasizing with player-led leadership.
07:31
He talked about habits, and I think that's a constant thing he's kind of talked about
07:35
the last couple of years.
07:36
But how does he emphasize habits?
07:38
How do you embrace that and what are habits that work for you?
07:41
Well, when you said Nick, it made me really – the thing that he's been preaching a lot
07:50
is contribution over credit and the whole sense of, you know, it doesn't really matter
07:56
how it gets done, you know, just a matter of getting it done, you know, as a team
08:00
and really buying into that collective.
08:03
And so, I think he's had a habit of saying that.
08:05
He's had a habit of saying that to try and go to that next level.
08:10
It requires something more of yourself.
08:11
And so, I think he's done a really good job from a message standpoint.
08:14
And as a team, we just have to continue to, you know, kind of be all in on that and follow
08:20
his lead.
08:21
So, when you hear him say that over and over about contribution, what do you reflect on?
08:26
I reflect on trying to find a way to win and it not mattering how it looks.
08:31
How often does Nick mention Larry Karras to you?
08:36
And have you ever talked to Larry and – I talked to him and he just talked about what
08:42
a great player you thought you were from the outset.
08:45
Have you ever had a conversation with him just about his thoughts on offense?
08:51
I don't know, it's like three questions, but –
08:53
Well, I mean, we – you know, we got the Cowboys this week.
08:58
So, I'm trying to – let's kind of redirect ourselves back.
09:01
I know we kind of like today, but can I get one of those, please?
09:07
What – all right.
09:08
Well, I don't have Micah.
09:10
What do you think about the Cowboys season?
09:11
Well, the Cowboys are a really good team.
09:16
A really good team.
09:18
Obviously, got a unit on the other side of the ball too and that uplifts them in a number
09:26
of ways.
09:27
Defensively, you know, with Coach having a new defensive coordinator, you don't really
09:31
know what iteration he's going to put out there on the field.
09:34
And so, it just comes down to kind of playing fast and playing clean football.
09:38
Obviously, the defensive backs are really good.
09:41
Got a really tight-knit front seven group.
09:43
Playing with Kenneth Murray, very familiar with him and their safeties.
09:47
They've been there a very, very long time.
09:49
So, they got a really good – they got a really good group.
09:52
And they've always been able to find ways to be disruptive.
09:56
And so, that's something that is on top of mind.
09:59
Thanks, y'all.
10:00
Thanks, y'all.
10:01
Thanks, y'all.
10:02
Stop dreaming of your dream home.
10:04
Let's make it real.
10:05
What I see a lot of times is people will spend a lot of money and they think it's gonna make
10:11
me feel happier and it rarely works.
10:13
For the first time, I'm taking you behind the scenes of my design process.
10:21
The thing that I really empathize with is that feeling of, I don't know how to get started.
