00:21It was extremely frustrating, it made me sad, I had like lost a lot of my confidence, I
00:29was always a very thin person.
00:33Right before I was sick I weighed about 129 pounds, and within six or seven months I'd
00:40gained like 65 pounds, and then I would maybe lose like 10 pounds and then I would gain 20.
00:49And it was just like, it was an uphill battle.
00:52I just didn't feel that it was ever going to kind of go my way.
01:11Whatever it did, it did something, like it did something to the food noise, it did something
01:16to your cravings.
01:17It definitely has like an off switch.
01:22So where like, you know, you used to eat and you would like be like, oh this tastes so good.
01:26So you just wanted to keep eating and eating, so you'd overindulge all the time.
01:32This just cuts that off, like there were literal times where like, I'd be like, this is so good,
01:37I'd put a bite in my mouth, and I'm like, I can't swallow this.
01:41And I've literally had to spit out like the last bite of food into a napkin because I couldn't
01:46even swallow it.
01:47So it's got like this cutoff switch, like when you're done, you're just done, and then that's it.
01:53And then push my plate away, and I'm done.
02:19And the more weight I started to lose, the better I started to feel mentally and physically.
02:25I dealt with really bad joint pain, I guess, you know, I was carrying all this extra weight
02:31around.
02:32So as that started to come off, I felt better physically, and then with that I could get
02:38out and exercise more.
02:39I was walking every day, I was playing tennis again, riding my bike.
02:44So even just a little bit helped to get me like back on track and getting more physically
02:50active, and then it just kept slowly coming off.
03:01So I, again, very sensitive to medication.
03:05So I do get headaches from it, nausea, and fatigue.
03:14I'd say those are the three, but my fatigue in the beginning was intense.
03:21Like six days a week, I was like wiped out.
03:25If it wasn't COVID, I don't, and I had to get up and like go into an office every day,
03:29it would
03:30have been really difficult for me.
03:32I was very fortunate that I did start while I was like fully remote at home.
03:36So I was able to like really navigate through the fatigue along with the nausea.
03:59The positives, where do I start?
04:04My confidence being back.
04:06The weight coming off, dulling that food noise, just feeling in control again.
04:15Feeling like I was making the right food decisions, the right activities.
04:23Like I was happy to be able to walk up a flight of steps without wanting to cry because my
04:29knees
04:29hurt so much or taking the steps rather than the elevator all the time and being able to
04:36make that choice.
04:39Other positives.
04:41The way people look at you.
04:43I mean, I know people say that weight shouldn't matter, but people do look at you differently.
04:48When you're in shape and you're healthy and you're thin, people treat you different.
04:52I mean, I'd like to say that that's not the case, but they do, which also helps how you feel.
05:01I'd say the really the biggest pro out of all of this is having my confidence back.
05:17After a year of being on the medication and paying out of pocket, my insurance started to
05:22cover it.
05:23And I had a zero dollar copay.
05:25So I went from paying quite a bit to zero.
05:28And then just this year, it went back up to twenty five dollars.
05:31So as long as my insurance pays for it, I will definitely stay on it.
05:34If that changes, then maybe we'll rethink a different plan.
05:38But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
05:47I've been in weight management field practicing for almost 20 years, and I've seen lots of drugs
05:52come and go.
05:53But the basis is always the lifestyle.
05:56No one ever leaves my office with a prescription without some nutrition and education about
06:01physical activity.
06:03So we have drugs that work that can be safe for a lot of people when managed correctly.
06:08And I think it's a blessing that we have this option that our older parents, grandparents
06:14may not have had so that we can treat obesity chronically, help people feel better, live longer
06:20lives.
06:31One thing about weight loss that we have to consider is that we don't have as much control
06:35over our weight as we are thought to believe that we have.
06:39Our weight is actually regulated by the brain's appetite signals, by the stomach's digestion,
06:44your metabolism, which can change throughout someone's life.
06:47So the more attempts you make at weight loss, the harder your body makes it by giving you
06:52hunger or food noise.
06:54And the GLP-1 agonists really decrease these signals from the brain so that you can eat correctly,
07:00follow dietitian's recommendations, not overeating portion size, so that you can get the best result.
07:18Looking from the outside in, it can appear as if people just lose weight in one week or two months,
07:25but it really is a process of deciding what's the best lifestyle recommendations for you.
07:30So we do take into consideration the patient's daily ability to cook, their ability to exercise,
07:36what they have access to, and formulate an individualized plan for them.
07:40That can be effective and really work for them.
07:43And then the dosing is really important.
07:45You want to make sure that your provider is there for you to adjust medication doses based
07:49on your result, your side effects, and also any other medications you may be taking and other health problems.
07:54So finding that individualized plan is really key for every patient to have the best results with GLP-1s.
08:02There's just so much of it.
08:08Even for public health people like me, who believe that diet and exercise are really, really important for health,
08:16it's perfectly clear that that's not enough for people who have the disease of obesity,
08:24that they cannot manage their obesity with diet and exercise alone.
08:29And that's where this drug comes in and has made such a difference to so many people.
08:42You know, what you really want is a food environment that encourages people to eat more healthfully.
08:48I'm hoping that the drug will create a demand for that kind of food environment.
08:54And we're already seeing that because people who are taking these drugs are insisting on healthier foods.
09:02Not all of them, but many of them want healthier foods.
09:06They want foods with less sugar, lower calories, more protein, more vitamins.
09:12They're asking for that.
09:14And the food industry is already seeing this and responding.
09:18Whether the food industry will be able to produce products that people want to eat under these circumstances,
09:25I have no idea that that remains to be seen.
09:29But the effects of these drugs on the food industry, on the grocery industry,
09:35and on everybody who's selling food, they're already being seen.
09:40I'm hoping we'll end up with a healthier food supply as a result.
09:51I think five years from now, more and more people will tell you that besides losing weight,
09:58I do want to have a reduced risk of a heart attack, a reduced risk of a stroke,
10:05a liver that's healthy and not fatty.
10:08And as they go in that direction, I think our company is very well positioned
10:13in competing with the others that don't have some of those capabilities
10:17and only have focused on the magnitude of the weight loss.
10:23That's pretty much a healthy wind.
10:24прок 네만 pace to rip for himself.
10:31It's the pursuit of forngulo.
10:31I mean what we want to do is take a loop to the new unit
