00:00Special Olympics just shows what athletes with an intellectual disability and autism
00:05can achieve when people believe in them and when you believe in somebody you can make
00:11anything happen and that's why I've got the Polar Plunge because we want more people out
00:16there who can see the benefits for an athlete from Special Olympics.
00:20Last year we had around 50 local police participating in the event, this year we hope to outdo that
00:26number, we're hoping to raise more than what we did last year which was around $8,000.
00:31We're on track, we're already at $6,000 this year but we're encouraging the community and
00:36other sporting groups, other emergency services to jump on the website and either support local
00:40police or come down and do the jump yourself.
00:42The Polar Plunge isn't just about our athletes going to the National Games, it's about every
00:47single one of them, we've got nearly 50 athletes and we want every single one of them to have
00:51the opportunity that so-called normal people have because we're just as excited for them
00:57as anyone who does anything.
01:01So the Special Olympics are in Melbourne and I've got nine volunteers going from Neillawarra
01:07in various team support roles, I'm an assistant head of delegation and we're really excited,
01:14we're going to see athletes.
