00:03Hello and welcome to flash highlights of stage 16 of this year's Giro d'Italia.
00:07First day back after the rest day and a stage entirely in Switzerland exploring the beautiful Ticino region.
00:16Another tough finale to nearly 12km that final climb to Cari.
00:23A first category climb that has before it four categorised climbs too.
00:27Jonas Viñegor in the Malia Rosa and heading out to his first proper test really in the leader's jersey.
00:36Alponso Eulaglio in the Malia Bianca of best young rider also looking like he's enjoying his time.
00:44Still in second place to Jonas Viñegor on GC, 2 minutes 26 down.
00:50Yadi Christian van der Lee, the Dutchman very keen whilst wearing that King of the Mountains jersey,
00:55the Malia Azura to get into the breakaway and see if he can add points to it as well.
00:59Of course it's Jonas Viñegor who leads that classification on account of the summit finishes that he's already won.
01:06Three stages so far.
01:07Giulio Ciccone made his way into the breakaway and for a very deliberate reason to see if he could start
01:11taking more Mountains points.
01:13He had a brilliant day out in terms of the Mountains classification.
01:19And two riders by the way made it across to that breakaway, two very dangerous riders of course.
01:24Jan Christen of UE Team Emirates there and his own teammate of course Jonathan Navaez.
01:30Giulio Ciccone was trying to get the big 13 rider breakaway to work well together
01:36and ensure he'd always be in position to take more Mountains points which he did.
01:40He took the nine points on top of Torre, then 18 on top of Leon Cicca and continued.
01:47In fact Giulio Ciccone was obviously feeling very good on this day.
01:51A bit frustrated with the others that were in there but he did get some good company.
01:54Jonathan Navaez went with him as did Chris Harper who was looking very good on this stage.
01:59And behind of course it was the Killer Bees.
02:01Visma Lisa bike pacing, Jonas Viñegor in the Malia Rosa.
02:05Next of course came another climb of Torre.
02:08It was Giulio Ciccone.
02:09They were doing a couple of laps by the way.
02:11You'll have noticed the same climbs again.
02:13Two 22 kilometre laps of the Roca Bella circuit.
02:18This was back on Leon Ticcio again.
02:20The second category climb.
02:21Giulio Ciccone looking very dominant in that group for those points because he would take them.
02:25Again ahead of Ina Rubio who was also moving up again in that Malia Azura competition.
02:33The King of the Mountains classification.
02:34Diogo Alisi was chasing at this point.
02:36He wasn't giving up on being back in touch with the front of the race.
02:40And their gap at this point as Jonathan Navaez took 12 points in Ludiano for the Malia Cicclamino competition.
02:47Their gap was the maximum it ever reached.
02:49About two minutes as well.
02:50So Jonathan Navaez reason for being there I think to get those 12 points in the Cicclamino competition.
02:56It took him back to within two points of Paul Magne.
02:59And then he dropped off the breakaway.
03:01No need for him to stay in there either.
03:04But Giulio Ciccone thought likewise too.
03:07He was feeling brilliant today but in the end thought you know what I've had enough of this.
03:10Left these two to it.
03:11Ina Rubio and Chris Harper.
03:13The survivors of that breakaway.
03:15Chris Harper took the six seconds in the Red Bull Kilometre.
03:18Ina Rubio four.
03:19And the two seconds would go to Filippo Magli.
03:23Just in front of the remnants of the Vismalisa bike peloton there.
03:26And it was ominous wasn't it?
03:29The Malia Rosa just boiling up behind his teammates.
03:34Harper.
03:35Stage winner last year at the Giro d'Italia of course.
03:38Looking really good.
03:39Someone who wasn't though was Giulio Pellizzari.
03:42He was getting dropped on the final climb to carry as well.
03:45Not a good day for Giulio Pellizzari today.
03:48Another brilliant day for Victor Campenaerts though.
03:50The Belgian former hour record holder.
03:52Another tricky day though for Alfonso Iolalia.
03:56Who was also losing time before and dropping out of second place on GC.
03:59This was 6.6k to go.
04:01Jonas Vinjogor in the Malia Rosa attacking.
04:04Felix Gall looking like he could go with him.
04:06But then sitting down and thinking better of it.
04:09He would join this group which was being paced by the deluxe pace man of Egan Bernal.
04:13Working of course for his teammate Tymon Aronsman.
04:16But in front of them Jonas Vinjogor was on a romp in the mountains.
04:22And was extending his lead.
04:24Derek G. West there the Canadian champion had had a few problems.
04:27But worked his way back in with that group too.
04:29He was battling well.
04:31And Jonas Vinjogor doing something he's never done before in a Grand Tour.
04:34Or any stage race I believe.
04:36Taking four stage wins.
04:37His best previously was three.
04:39And here he is on debut in the Giro d'Italia.
04:42In the Malia Rosa and taking four.
04:45An ominous, controlled but very dominant performance from Jonas Vinjogor.
04:50A fourth stage win and an extension of his lead in the Malia Rosa.
04:54He is very much looking like the winner-elect of this 109th Giro d'Italia.
04:59But we have some way to go yet.
05:01Vincenzo Nibali stood next to him on the podium.
05:03Would probably tell him that into his ear.
05:05Paul Magni still of course in Ciclamino.
05:08But only two points ahead of Jonathan Navaes.
05:12Jonas Vinjogor, definitely the best climber in the race.
05:14He of course leads that competition.
05:16But it will be Giulio Ciccone who wears the Malia Azura tomorrow.
05:19Afonso Iolelio, still the best young rider.
05:22Join us tomorrow because the stage will be almost twice as long.
05:25We'll be right back.
05:27We'll be right back.
05:30We'll be right back.
05:32We'll be right back.
05:34We'll be right back.
05:35We'll be right back.
05:36We'll be right back.
05:36We'll be right back.
05:37We'll be right back.
05:37We'll be right back.
05:37We'll be right back.
05:38Merci.
