00:00No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:02Four sets of holiday hosts.
00:05Well, that's massive, isn't it?
00:07Check into each other's places.
00:09Hello.
00:10Welcome to Kai Kool.
00:12And suss out one another.
00:14We can only apologise and trust that it will get better.
00:18It was chaos.
00:21Today, there's donkey work.
00:23If they come over to you and you want to give them a ginger nut, feel free.
00:26Oh, a bit of cake.
00:28As they battle.
00:29They're sticky because there's a kitchen in here.
00:31It's the grease.
00:32Yeah.
00:33To be named best value for money.
00:35It's a no.
00:36That's that then.
00:37That's that then.
00:44The third visit of the week is to Aberystwyth Keradigion
00:47and Silver Fern Glamping, owned by Sean and Sarah Brady, hosts with a domestic discord.
00:54I try on a daily basis to organise Sean.
00:56He is the most chaotic, most disorganised person.
01:01Well, I would say it's organised chaos.
01:03No, it's not.
01:03I'm organised.
01:04He's chaos.
01:06Guests looking for method in the madness can choose from three shepherd's huts far up to £130 a night, based
01:12on a two-night minimum stay.
01:14With an optional breakfast hamper costing up to £25 a night and meet hosts with a design for life.
01:21We built our dream.
01:23We all want to switch off, be in nature, have a bubble bath under the stars.
01:28But you know what, I also want to be able to go inside and put the heating on and have
01:32a nice sluggily towel.
01:33It's just bliss.
01:35And Sarah and Sean believe in a clean break.
01:38For me, the cleanliness is exceptional.
01:42Somewhere being clean is super, super important.
01:45It's unforgivable if that stuff isn't right.
01:48About to arrive are today's first guests.
01:51Fresh trim.
01:52Do you want to have it any shorter?
01:55There's no hair on it.
01:56I know!
01:58Cutting to the chase are Fritha Jane and Justin Evans of Northup Hall Country House Hotel in Mould, Flintshire.
02:05On the last visit over drinks...
02:07Cheers, everyone.
02:08Cheers, guys.
02:09Sarah talked about her tunnel vision.
02:12I had a dream to have a glamping site that we built ourselves.
02:16I am living my dream.
02:18So today, Fritha's canvassing opinions.
02:21What are you expecting?
02:23Does it have to be a tent?
02:24Because I've seen huts.
02:26I would say that's technically a caravan.
02:29OK, got a message.
02:30Dear Justin and Fritha, your luxury shepherd's hut is called Heart and costs £130 per night based on a two
02:39-night stay.
02:41Surroundings are gorgeous.
02:42It is nice.
02:44Not the glamping I expected, I expected tents.
02:46I hope inside's nice.
02:48Shall we go and have a look?
02:49Yeah.
02:51Oh, wow.
02:54OK, that's cute.
02:56While Justin and Fritha catch cabin fever, today's next guest is after some beginner's luck.
03:02I've never actually been glamping before and I'm not really sure what it's going to be like.
03:07I'm hoping it's going to be fun.
03:10Ready to gorge on the great outdoors is Paul Hooper, owner of Hooper's Sandy Beach Guest Rooms in Swansea.
03:17Earlier in the week, Sarah and Sean put him in the picture.
03:20If it was a new place, what kind of scene would we be painting?
03:24Rolling hills.
03:26Definitely some sheep.
03:27So today, Paul's not following the herd.
03:30This is definitely getting a little bit more rural, shall we say.
03:34I expect an open field, maybe next to a farm and a well thought out sort of glamping area.
03:40It's going to be polished.
03:42Got a message?
03:44Your luxury shepherd hut is called holly poddy and costs £130 per night.
03:50That's quite cool.
03:54Let's have a look.
03:55This is right up my street.
03:57I could live here.
03:58With Paul a happy glamper, today's final guests are acclimatising.
04:03The weather was fantastic.
04:05Now it's taking a turn for the worse.
04:06I hope they've got wellies.
04:08You've got your flip flops in there.
04:09My flip flops are on here.
04:10Dipping a toe in is Steve Clarke, owner of Kai Court Hotel in Bridge End,
04:15who is joined in the competition by friend Andrew Smith.
04:19Last time when they hosted...
04:21Welcome to Kai Court.
04:23Oh, wow.
04:25It was love at first sight.
04:27Look at that building.
04:29That is beautiful.
04:30This is nice and great in here.
04:32Looking good.
04:33But Justin and Fritha soon got the ick.
04:36I expected more in keeping with the building.
04:40It feels a bit more chain hotel.
04:43Meaning at feedback...
04:44Wow.
04:45Disappointing the six.
04:46Yeah.
04:47A character flaw was highlighted.
04:49Lacks personality.
04:50Did they want it to dance and sing?
04:52But today, Steve's trying not to take it to heart.
04:57It's a good bunch of guys.
04:58Yeah.
04:59But one of the comments was that the room lacked personality.
05:03I ain't sure what that meant.
05:05Do I have a chance of discussing those on payment day?
05:07I've just got a message.
05:09Dear Stephen and Andrew, your luxury shepherd hut is called King and costs £130 a night.
05:15Oh, a shepherd hut.
05:16Yeah.
05:16All right, okay.
05:17Just an idea what we're going into.
05:22Oh, wow.
05:23This is all right, isn't it?
05:24It's really compact.
05:26Yeah.
05:26Really put together well.
05:27Yeah.
05:28With the hosts out of the way, the guests can see if Silver Fern offers silver service.
05:34A really nice message from Sarah and Sean.
05:36Left me some milk in the fridge.
05:38Vegan milk, which is great.
05:39That's her first impression when it gets tucked under.
05:41It means it's been looked at, checked and done.
05:43Yeah.
05:44I like the decor.
05:45The finish is lovely.
05:46Yeah.
05:47It's like a show home.
05:48If I was here with a wife, my only concern would be getting one over the other one.
05:53I love a log burner.
05:54This, for me, is what makes it glamp in.
05:57Clean pillows.
05:59Smells fresh.
06:00Yeah, beautiful.
06:01No issues whatsoever.
06:03They've made a nice effort to make sure every little bit is nice and clean and tidy.
06:07It's sticky.
06:08Yeah.
06:08Because there's a kitchen in here, it's the grease.
06:10This is so clean, honestly, you can see your face in it.
06:13Yeah.
06:13No problems at all.
06:14Good quality materials.
06:15Yeah, really.
06:16Fridge is really good.
06:17There's my milk that they've left for me.
06:19I don't know what that is, but it's coming up.
06:21I think it's just grease again.
06:24Oh, this looks tidy, doesn't it?
06:26They've utilised the space really well.
06:29They've given this a good clean, fair play to them.
06:33There's a hell of a draught coming through her.
06:35Look, you can see it.
06:37Room inspection's almost over.
06:39Steve's in a lather.
06:40Later on tonight, nice bottle of wine.
06:42What do you reckon?
06:43You're having a bath.
06:45Paul has a pew with a view.
06:47Chicky beer, beer.
06:48Fire on.
06:49Fantastic.
06:51And Justin and Fritha aren't sweet on the treats.
06:54Oh, God.
06:56Bits that aren't marshmallow.
06:57It looks like popcorn skin.
06:59Because someone's just put their dirty fingers into it.
07:02Oh!
07:03Oh!
07:09Opened in 1872, Aberystwyth University is the oldest in Wales.
07:14And today, Sean and Sarah hope their guests will give them honours
07:18after an afternoon on their very own farm.
07:22I think Sean and Sarah are going to give us a feel for the countryside,
07:25part of their rural life out here.
07:27This could be fun.
07:28Sarah and I thought that you would like
07:30to meet the newest members of the Silver Firb family.
07:37Amazing.
07:38Amazing of me.
07:39So this is Lupin.
07:40And this one is Lily.
07:41They're super, super friendly.
07:43Hello.
07:44So they are Mediterranean donkeys.
07:46So this is their size.
07:47They're super rare as a breed.
07:49There's less than 700 of them in the UK.
07:51Wow.
07:52Why this breed?
07:52Any reason?
07:53So I've always had horses.
07:54And Sean said, OK, well, if you're going to downsize and have less horses,
07:59you can finally have the donkeys you've always wanted.
08:02On one condition, that they earn their living.
08:05Guests can have an exclusive hour with them.
08:07And he and Kate grooming them.
08:09Really good idea.
08:10Who wouldn't want to hang out with these guys?
08:12Yeah, they're lovely.
08:13Those donkeys were so small.
08:15They were just so gorgeous.
08:17They were wonderful.
08:19Dinky donkeys delighting.
08:21Come on.
08:22Come on in.
08:23Sarah takes the group on a saunter around the rest of the site.
08:27This whole area when we bought it was pretty much a scrapyard.
08:31When we first moved here, there was no birdsong.
08:33So we set about rewinding it, letting it go back to nature.
08:36Beautiful.
08:37Yeah.
08:38The kind of people that come here are super interested in nature.
08:41What else is there to do in the area?
08:43So we have the dolphins in Carlingham Bay, which are fantastic.
08:46We've got the famous steam railway that goes up through the valley.
08:49We've got Aberystwyth just down the road, which is quite a bustling town.
08:52So, endless things to do in the area.
08:54Sarah and Sean, really nice hosting.
08:57It's a kite.
08:58Wow.
08:58It is typical of a lovely Welsh rural site, so it was a nice experience.
09:04Area assessed.
09:05Come on in, guys.
09:06I've got the fire lit.
09:07Oh, this looks cracking.
09:09Sarah and Sean decide it's time to let them eat cake.
09:13Enjoy.
09:13Looking forward to this.
09:15That's it, are you?
09:17Mmm.
09:18If Lily and Lupin come over to you and you want to give them a ginger nut, feel free.
09:22If you were a cake, Steve, what do you think you would be?
09:26I reckon I'd be a shoe bun, cos I like that cream.
09:29And you can hide it inside, can't you?
09:32What about you, Sarah?
09:34I feel like I might be a bit of a jammy dodger.
09:36Well, you are a bit dodgy every now and again.
09:39And you?
09:39I think coffee and walnut.
09:41Strong.
09:42Yeah.
09:43Slightly crazy.
09:44Slightly nutty.
09:45A bit nutty, yeah.
09:48Trista's a really good girl, I like her.
09:49She has a way with the donkeys.
09:51Yeah, I think she's the donkey whisperer.
09:53And as the afternoon draws to a close...
09:55Oh, a bit of cake!
09:57The hosts hope the rest of the stay will be a cakewalk.
10:01There's lots of fun and laughter.
10:03Yeah, I'm looking forward to this evening's drinks.
10:05Yeah, I think the group's got a good dynamic and, of course, I'm always up for drinks in the evening.
10:15The third visit of the week is to Aberystwyth Kenedigion, where tonight hosts Sarah and Sean have invited their guests
10:22for a thirst quencher in a nearby restaurant.
10:25Cheers.
10:26Cheers.
10:27Cheers.
10:30Glasses raised, first Fritha tries to fathom the form.
10:34So there's lots of different structures when it comes to glamping.
10:38Out of all of those, what made you pick Shepherd's Hut?
10:40We're not originally Welsh, so we really wanted to embrace the culture of Wales and the bed layout and that.
10:46That's a traditional Shepherd's Hut, that's how they were.
10:49Are you open all year round?
10:51We are, so we're open right through the winter.
10:54They're all insulated, underfloor heating, with burning stoves, so you can be warm and toasty in them.
10:59That's it.
11:00Glamorous camping, that's where the word comes from.
11:02That's right.
11:03I totally understand why Sean and Sarah have picked the Shepherd's Huts.
11:06It is absolutely in keeping with their setting.
11:09I just would never have called it glamping, because it's more caravan-like.
11:15Definitions dividing.
11:16Now host Sean wants to know if they're Hut to Trot.
11:20So guys, what's your first impressions?
11:23What did you expect and has it matched it?
11:25It reminds me a little bit of a Camperland, because you've taken a really nice cabin and shrunk it all
11:30down.
11:31I've got to be honest, I could live there.
11:33You're very welcome.
11:35We're a bit worried because you give us a couple of tents.
11:38It's time yet, Andrew.
11:40Yes.
11:40It's time yet.
11:41But we didn't get a chance to use the bath.
11:43He's going to run it for me later.
11:45Nice romantic bath for two tonight then.
11:47And if you're lucky, you might get a full moon.
11:51That Shepherd's Huts is a compact way of living.
11:53It'll be interesting as to how that transpires when we get up in the morning and we cook actually in
11:59that small space.
12:01Next, talk turns to adolescent ambitions.
12:05We're all in hospitality now.
12:07Is that where you wanted to be when you were growing up as a kid?
12:10My dream wouldn't have been hospitality.
12:12Once it'd become obvious, I wasn't going to be the next Pele.
12:16But, you know, I've done a lot of things over the years.
12:19I've landed in it and seeing all you guys and the way that you do different things has been an
12:24eye-opener, massive eye-opener.
12:26So, how about you, Paul?
12:27It wouldn't have been hospitality, you know, when I was growing up.
12:30I probably wanted to be Spider-Man, to be honest.
12:34I could see Spider-Man.
12:36Me too.
12:37So, yeah, so I've always made things.
12:39The hospitality thing for me has come from actually the building work.
12:42Climbing the wall.
12:43Climbing the wall, yeah.
12:46The atmosphere in the group right now is really great.
12:49We're all starting to get to know each other that bit better.
12:51And it'll be interesting to see where we get to by the end of the week.
12:56Drinks downed.
12:57It's all back to their huts, where Justin hits the deck.
13:00The floor hasn't been put together tight enough.
13:03Crumbs will go in there that obviously could cause rodents.
13:06The curtain doesn't fit the door with the sun rising at early hours.
13:12Could be a bit of an issue.
13:13I'm going to be off to my room now.
13:15Nightly night.
13:16Cheers.
13:21It's a damp morning in Aberystwyth.
13:24Here you are mate, here's your coffee cheesy.
13:26And Justin's assessing his slumbers.
13:29How do you sleep?
13:31I slept really well actually last night.
13:33Really comfortable.
13:34I did get woken up at five o'clock this morning.
13:37The light from the curtain was coming through.
13:41Warm enough?
13:42The room was warm enough, but I had the shower this morning
13:45and when I got out the temperature dropped massively.
13:50Breakfast at Silver Fern is a self-catered affair
13:54and with everyone opting for an optional breakfast hamper
13:57costing up to £25,
13:58the hosts think their guests will be happy glampers.
14:02Lovely.
14:03We've put together what we feel is a great hamper
14:06with some great produce.
14:07How it ends up is entirely down to them.
14:10There is a fire extinguisher just in case.
14:12Food parcels dispatched.
14:14Good morning Steve. Enjoy your breakfast.
14:17Thank you guys.
14:18It's time to inspect the hall.
14:20Let's have a look at what we've got.
14:23It's like Christmas.
14:24Fresh mushrooms.
14:25Bacon.
14:26Nicely packaged in the paper to be fair.
14:28Sausages which are vegan.
14:30Very thoughtful.
14:31Welsh salted butter.
14:32Lovely.
14:33I think that's good value.
14:34We've got a nice little loaf of vegan sourdough.
14:36Everything seems good quality.
14:38Some pork sausages.
14:39They look to be locally sourced so that's a real plus.
14:44Hampers hailed.
14:45It's cooking time.
14:47The heat is on.
14:48Let's get stuck into this now because I'm starving.
14:51I love my little bean tin.
14:53I love what they've done.
14:53I love the little ideas they've got.
14:55So you know what?
14:56I'm really enjoying this.
14:57Yeah.
14:57I'm glad you did it on the fire.
14:59This is pretty simplistic really cooking in here.
15:02Fish slice is actually pretty grubby.
15:04Could you just give that a wash so I can use it for the eggs?
15:07Yeah.
15:08Personally, I like a hot chocolate in the morning.
15:10Some vegan hot chocolate offering.
15:12Might be a nice idea.
15:14Oh, they're greasy.
15:15Oh, yeah.
15:16It just literally almost slipped out of my hand then.
15:18It's such a shame that we can't use the fire pit outside.
15:21In nice weather, this would be super.
15:24Yeah.
15:25The cooking experience was good this morning.
15:27Utility ways, I think they had everything we needed.
15:30That was a pleasant experience for me and one I really enjoyed.
15:33Cooking complete.
15:34Ten out of ten for presentation there, Steve.
15:37Everyone's ready to rate their plates.
15:43I'm actually really pleased with this.
15:45It's good.
15:45It is good.
15:46Let's see what my sausage is like.
15:48Because a lot of vegan offerings just aren't up to scratch.
15:54They're actually really nice.
15:55I would have them again.
15:56The sausage is nice.
15:57It's got good herbs running through it.
16:00Fresh yellow eggs.
16:01I'm not a big coffee drinker.
16:03This coffee, really good.
16:05The ingredients were second to none.
16:07The quality of the coffee was excellent.
16:10And the sausages, excellent.
16:13Food finished.
16:14Talk turns to the overall experience.
16:17I think the whole feel here is really relaxing.
16:19It does feel very much like you're amongst nature here.
16:23Which is what you'd expect, I suppose, if you go camping or glamping.
16:26For me, the location's outstanding.
16:28But we did have the issue in the bathroom with it being cold.
16:34Cleanliness was not up to par.
16:37So, value for money.
16:39Mmm.
16:40Do you know what?
16:41I really think I put it in a state.
16:42It's just a great pity that we couldn't be sat outside.
16:45I know.
16:46In this weather, if it just had a cover over the bath area, we probably could use it.
16:51It does look stunning.
16:53But there's obviously issues that have cropped up.
16:55It isn't quite where it needs to be.
16:57Yeah.
16:59Breakfast finished.
17:00It's time for the guests to get stuck into the anonymous feedback forms.
17:04How were your hosts at Silver Fern glamping?
17:07They were very friendly, approachable.
17:09Great job.
17:10Shouldn't it be a big ten?
17:12How clean was Silver Fern glamping?
17:15Good first impression.
17:16Number of items are holding grease.
17:19Yeah.
17:19Crockery, utensils, et cetera, not properly cleaned.
17:23Seven.
17:24Seven.
17:24It was clean as a whistle.
17:26So I am going to give them another ten.
17:29Extremely clean.
17:31Yeah.
17:32Immaculate kitchen and bathroom.
17:35Ten out of ten.
17:37How were the facilities?
17:39Aesthetically, absolutely stunning.
17:41Bathroom.
17:42Very draughty.
17:43Too cold.
17:44Yeah.
17:44Gaps in flooring.
17:46And then should we talk about the marshmallows?
17:48Yeah.
17:48Contaminated, consumable containers.
17:51A six.
17:53Cabin facilities are of a high standard.
17:55Although configuration of bed and living space could be bigger.
17:59Maybe cover the outdoor areas to allow for weather issues.
18:04I think we're going to eat.
18:05I think that's fair.
18:07How did you sleep?
18:08Best sleep of the week.
18:09One drawback was curtains too small for door.
18:13Scored them a nine.
18:14How was breakfast?
18:16Produce, fantastic.
18:18Value for money.
18:21Coffee a big plus.
18:23Enjoyed.
18:24The cooking experience.
18:25Figures a ten.
18:27Yeah.
18:27Yeah.
18:28The only downside for me would be that I didn't have hot chocolate in the morning.
18:32Otherwise, go eat breakfast.
18:34A relaxing cooking experience.
18:36So I'm going to give them a nine.
18:38And answer the big one.
18:39Would you stay here again?
18:41For me it's yes.
18:42Yes as well.
18:43That's a big fat yes.
18:45I just don't feel the value for money is right.
18:49No.
18:50Yeah.
18:52Now the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth.
18:55I think we got this one right.
18:56Yeah.
18:58The cash will be kept secret until the end of the competition.
19:01But for now, Sarah and Sean can see if their guests are silver-tongued about Silver Fern.
19:06Have a look.
19:07There's no turning back.
19:09How clean was Silver Fern glamping?
19:11We got a ten.
19:12Really happy with that.
19:13Extremely clean.
19:15Immaculate kitchen and bathroom.
19:16Great.
19:17That's brilliant.
19:18How were the facilities?
19:20And we scored an eight.
19:21That's still really good.
19:22Cabin facilities are of a high standard.
19:25Although configuration of the bed and living space could be bigger.
19:29We probably have sacrificed a little bit of the living space to make sure it was a king sized bed.
19:34Maybe cover the outdoor areas to allow for weather issues.
19:38Covering the area around the shepherd's hut might detract from the overall look and feel.
19:43How was breakfast?
19:45Ten.
19:45Fantastic.
19:46Produce, fantastic.
19:48And value for money.
19:49Good.
19:49That's brilliant.
19:50Coffee, a big plus.
19:52They enjoyed the cooking experience.
19:54I'm very happy with that.
19:56Would they stay again?
19:58And it's a yes.
19:59Really good.
20:00Great news.
20:02Shall we try the next one?
20:03Let's have a look.
20:04How were your hosts at Silver Fern Glamping?
20:07We got a ten.
20:07We got a ten.
20:09Friendly, approachable.
20:10Great job.
20:11That's really nice.
20:12Yeah.
20:13How clean was Silver Fern Glamping?
20:15Ten again.
20:15Ten.
20:16High five you.
20:17Yeah.
20:17Really, really happy with that.
20:18Clean as a whistle.
20:20Lovely.
20:20Great compliment.
20:21How was breakfast?
20:22And we got a nine.
20:23Okay, that's still really good.
20:25It says hot chocolate option with a question mark.
20:27It must be Paul's.
20:28It's definitely Paul's feedback.
20:30Yeah.
20:30It's fair feedback.
20:31We can look at getting some vegan ones.
20:33Great breakfast.
20:35Relaxing cooking experience.
20:37Really good.
20:38Yeah.
20:39Now the big question.
20:41Would he come back?
20:42Would he come back?
20:42And he would.
20:44That's great news.
20:45Two down.
20:46One to go.
20:48How clean was Silver Fern Glamping?
20:49We got a seven.
20:51That's really disappointing.
20:52Because the others have been, you know, really good scores.
20:55This one was cleaned exactly the same.
20:57Good first impression.
20:59That's good.
21:00Well.
21:00It says a number of items are holding grease.
21:03Hmm.
21:04Okay.
21:06Crockery, utensils, etc.
21:07Not properly clean.
21:09I wash all the crockery and utensils myself on every changeover.
21:13They were definitely done.
21:14How were the facilities?
21:16We got a six.
21:17Disappointed with that.
21:18Very disappointed actually.
21:19Yeah.
21:19So it says the aesthetics are stunning.
21:21Great.
21:22Bathroom drafty and cold.
21:23I suspect it's from the extractor fan.
21:26The wind can blow through.
21:27But you can't block it, obviously, because you need that air movement.
21:30Yeah.
21:31Gaps in the flooring.
21:32That will be adjusting for this.
21:34I have been in there and tried to repair that.
21:37I'll go back and re-look at that.
21:40Contaminated consumables containers.
21:42They were put in the dishwasher the day before arrival.
21:45Contaminated is quite a strong word, so we'll find out more about that.
21:48I don't know what that was.
21:49How did you sleep?
21:51We got a nine.
21:51Nine.
21:52Best sleep of the week.
21:53That's great feedback, isn't it?
21:54Yeah, that is great feedback.
21:55Yeah.
21:56The curtain's too small for the door.
21:58We had them made slightly smaller because of the wood burners.
22:01They were so close to the curtain.
22:04Would you stay here again?
22:07It's a no.
22:08That's that then.
22:09That's that then.
22:10They've certainly raised our expectations of what we're going to go to next.
22:14It's going to be interesting, I think.
22:17Next time when Justin and Fritha host...
22:20Welcome to the North Nepal Country House Hotel.
22:22Guests are fired up.
22:24Look at the state of that.
22:26And breakfast breaks down.
22:28They say it came with tomatoes.
22:29Also I asked for poached eggs.
22:32It was just all over the place.
22:33That's it.
22:40Please.
22:42So yes.
22:58I would like to assist in
