00:00Hey everybody this is BrainMan02 and this is a review on the Verizon Fios service at least on the east
00:10coast and let's begin.
00:14So, what exactly is Verizon Fios? Well, Fios is a fiber to the premises service or also FTTX which is
00:31fiber to the X, X standing for whatever type of place it is.
00:37And Fios allows you to have fiber optic speed, television, phone.
01:09And, of course, internet access.
01:20And all of this has to work through an ONT box which supposedly takes the fiber from the ground and
01:33transmits it throughout the house.
01:36This is usually found in the garage and most likely on the upper side as well.
02:02And the main thing in charge of this is the DVR, the digital video recorder.
02:11Which is on the top.
02:16And this is the one that allows you to record different programs, set them to record.
02:26And without this one, the other ones would have very limited function.
02:42And, like in this, the remote does actually look like this.
02:52And it is made by Philips, the remote, and it actually has many different functions to it, including to search
03:06with the B button, to power off both the DVR and the TV.
03:26The second most important device in this setup is the set-top box, which is also the one on the
03:34top.
03:35And this is very similar to the DVR in many different aspects.
03:42However, you cannot record programs on here.
03:45However, you can, although you can set different shows to record on the main DVR.
04:24By just hitting the record button.
04:43Although some of the newer set-top boxes, such as this one, have more limited functions.
04:51Such as not being able to have the time, and the only output being HDMI.
04:59Even though there are ports on the back, HDMI is the only functional one.
05:12As you may or may not notice, both the DVRs and the set-top boxes are manufactured by Motorola.
05:24Then later on, Motorola Mobility.
05:27And now, actually, the Aeros Group, as Motorola Mobility, sold their manufacturing and manufacturing licen...
05:39Licen...
05:42Licen...
05:45Licen...
05:51Places when they were under the control of Google.
06:00And, of course, with the router, it is provided, I believe, also made by Motorola.
06:10Instead of the normal phone cable, hooked up to the back, also with a separate modem.
06:22You have a coax cable right here, which connects to the ONT box.
06:34And, also on here, there are two USB 3.0 ports.
06:41USB 3.0.
06:44The exact.
06:51And, there are, of course, two antennas on this one.
06:54And, this was actually one of the newer routers for the regular file service.
07:00And, this is about the third one we have.
07:02And, they do actually go through them pretty quickly.
07:07Which is something to note.
07:09One of my favorite things about this, is it does have a WPS button right here.
07:14Where you can just hold it down.
07:18And, it allows your phone to actually search for the network.
07:24And, at the moment this, I believe, only works with certain phones like Androids.
07:30I do not think this feature has come to iOS yet.
07:34Although, I do believe Windows Phone, and actually Windows in general, got this feature a while
07:40back.
07:41A lot of printers also have this as well.
07:45Pretty cool feature.
07:47Although, the second, the generation before this router, that button actually did not work.
07:55It was actually just.
07:57And, of course, television does work as usual using files.
08:12And, every once in a while, it does do an update as you can see on the screen.
08:20And, this only takes about a minute or two.
08:23Sometimes, even about 30 seconds.
08:33The cool thing about files is that there is actually a learning channel.
08:39Channel 131.
08:41Which I am on right now.
08:47It formally did back-to-back videos for how-to.
08:54But, now it is actually an on-demand service that is free.
08:58For everyone to use.
09:02And, speaking of on-demand.
09:04There actually is an on-demand feature built into the system.
09:20And, we actually do not have on-demand.
09:22However, there is a lot of stuff available on-demand.
09:37Such as this title.
09:40And, it often advertises to be faster than Netflix.
09:51And, in many ways, it definitely is.
09:57Also, using the FIAS website, you can actually go online and watch your videos live from your device or the
10:16web browser.
10:17And, if you pay for the step-up service, FIAS Quantum.
10:23You can also watch your recorded content online as well.
10:30And, this was just a review on Verizon Fios.
10:34And, if you like this video, please subscribe and go ahead and like it as well.
10:39And, if you want me to do something differently.
10:41In case, I might redo this again in a few months or next year.
10:48Tell me in the comments below.
10:50And, I actually did make a video similar to this one.
10:55A while back, focusing just on the set-top box.
11:01That video is actually no longer available.
11:06However, if you'd like, I will make one just on a review on the set-top box and DVR.
11:15If you want them, please tell me in the comments below.
11:18And, have a great day.
