Even with the way Bill Belichick left New England, it seems as though he is more popular with Patriots fans than Tom Brady.

00:00We've been playing part of this interview for a couple of days now, and there's certain parts of it that
00:05I had not heard yet, but the more I hear the things that are being leaked out and the more
00:13clips that I actually get to listen to, the worse this becomes for Bill Belichick, in my opinion.
00:18So, Bill, and I don't know why, and we talked to Tommy Curran about this yesterday. I asked Tommy Curran,
00:22I said, why do you think Bill Belichick right now seems to be doing this press tour out of nowhere
00:31to try to clean up his image?
00:33And he goes, well, yeah, look what's going on right now with North Carolina, where you have his quarterback who
00:40has left the team and is now publicly talking trash, saying that, what did he call it?
00:45It was that it was hell being at UNC.
00:48Yeah, it took out the oxygen. There was no oxygen there.
00:50Oh, I mean, can you imagine that? Like, this was supposed to be Bill Belichick's pleasure cruise.
00:55Like, he was, I bet he had imagined in his head, by not going to the NFL, that you would
00:59go to college and it would be a lot of fun and you could win fairly easily and the kids
01:04would like you, oh, you know, who wouldn't love playing for a legend?
01:07Kiss the ring. Kiss the ring.
01:09Yeah, exactly. And everything we've heard so far, just from the players who have been vocal is, one, they didn't
01:15like playing for him.
01:17Two, did anybody get drafted from that team this year?
01:20Not one, no, no, nope.
01:21Crazy. Like, that to me is the craziest stat of them all.
01:25Maybe he should have gone in with that mindset. He was probably, Ted, just so hot from not getting an
01:29NFL job that I'll show these guys, 33rd team, Lombardi, get the Bible together.
01:34We're going to pound some people, you know?
01:36Yeah, but it would fall in line with what you hear about what the Mangini did when he went and
01:43got his head coaching job, what Patricia did when they went and got his head coaching job.
01:48The McDaniels.
01:48The McDaniels, it was all basically kiss the ring. I've been there.
01:54Like, do you know how hard the college game is to coach?
01:57Like, there's so many more responsibilities.
01:59You've got all these kids that you're responsible for.
02:02You've got the boosters.
02:04I mean, you have, you know, the local media isn't going to, they don't care that you won all those
02:10Super Bowls.
02:11So they're going to come at you from a different angle.
02:13It just felt like he walked, he didn't realize how hard the job was.
02:18And what's interesting, what's interesting is that I believe what Tom Tern said yesterday, that this is kind of him
02:25trying to, I don't know, respond to what Gio Lopez said to him about him and his experience there.
02:31But the interesting thing is, do you ever hear Bill, in any of these interviews, ever talk about the kids
02:38at North Carolina and how much he loves North Carolina and what he's trying to do to, you know, build
02:44at North Carolina, North Carolina, North Carolina?
02:47No, it's the same old stories.
02:50It's Lawrence Taylor.
02:51It's Matt Light, you know, stories.
02:55It's all the same rehash stuff we've heard over and over again.
02:59It's nothing about the UNC program.
03:01So I don't know what UNC thought they were getting, but this guy doesn't even really want to be, in
03:08my opinion, at North Carolina.
03:10It's literally the only job that he could get.
03:13Jeez, that's a great point.
03:14And it's wild, too, because you know that, obviously, Hannity and him talked about the questions that he was going
03:21to ask him during this interview.
03:22And one of the things Hannity said, one of the questions was, you know, I know that things didn't go
03:27the way you really wanted to, but that wasn't your team.
03:30You know, like, you didn't recruit.
03:31And he's crapping on the kids.
03:33Yeah.
03:33And it's like, and you're right.
03:34Bill has really not said anything like, you know, we've got this young so-and-so who's going to come
03:39up, and he's really going to impress you.
03:41And I've had nothing but a great time going and recruiting some of these guys.
03:44And I've got to tell you, so-and-so might be the next Lawrence Taylor.
03:48You know, little things like that you could do to even just build up the morale of the team that
03:53you're coaching.
03:54Yeah.
03:54Tell some of their names out there.
03:56Exactly.
03:56Exactly.
03:57And he doesn't do that ever.
03:58You know what?
03:59One of the things I find fascinating, you know what he can't stand more than anything, was negotiating contracts in
04:05New England.
04:05So you didn't negotiate with Bill.
04:08Bill gave you an offer, and you either accepted it, or you didn't, and then you paid the consequences for
04:16not accepting it.
04:17NIL money is negotiated with high school kids going into college.
04:21So these kids are negotiating with Lombardi, and they're trying to get the most money they can.
04:26And if you hear stories like Bill's playtime incentive, I mean, he's doing the same crap to these college kids
04:34that he did in the NFL, and no other school's doing it that way.
04:38And so kids are turned off by it.
04:40It's amazing how clueless he is to the modern athlete.
04:44All that said, don't you get the vibe listening to our show and our callers the last couple weeks?
04:48He's more well-liked here than TV.
04:50So I want to kind of get to that in a second, because I'm starting to feel something really strange
04:55about all of this, okay?
04:56I want to play this clip real quick, because Ken's right.
04:59He's on to something here.
04:59But I want to play this one clip one more time, just to kind of show you where things stand
05:05right now when it comes to Bill and Tom Brady.
05:09Because it's come to the point where Bill is straight up lying about things that happened here in order to
05:18save face.
05:21And when you hear this, I don't know why he wasn't called out, probably because this is his buddy, and
05:27this was a friendly interview.
05:28But anybody else, I don't know how you don't stop and go, well, Bill, that's not right.
05:33That's not true.
05:34That didn't happen.
05:36Let's take a listen to this clip right here, and I know I'm not going to make you stop it
05:39so I can laugh at Sean Hannity sounding drunk at the beginning of it, or at least sounds like he's
05:44in slow motion.
05:45But let's play this clip all the way to the end.
05:47Let's go.
05:47Can you think of a moment where you had to let somebody go, and it was just brutal for you
05:53to do it?
05:54Lots of them.
05:55Lots of them.
05:55I mean, look, I've traded players.
05:57I traded Richard Seymour.
05:59I traded Randy Moss.
06:01I remember that.
06:02I mean, like, they're in the Hall of Fame.
06:04I mean, they're great players.
06:06Rob retired and left.
06:07Tom left.
06:08I mean, you know, Tom leaving was absolutely the right thing for him to do.
06:12You know, we didn't have a good team in 2020.
06:15We just didn't have a good football team.
06:17Like, we had all those guys that left, Gostkowski and Edelman.
06:21You know, they were all, I mean, most of our team was gone.
06:23Edelman was there.
06:24There were a few that were there, but they were about to go, too.
06:26We were just at the end.
06:27And, you know, honestly, like, I was happy for him that things worked out well for him in Tampa because
06:33he was with a team and he made it.
06:35Were you happy about that?
06:36Well, for him, because, Tom, it wouldn't have gone well in 2020 at New England.
06:41I can guarantee you that.
06:42We put everything we had in the 19th season, including paying him, you know, a lot of money at the
06:47end of the year without anything for it.
06:49There was no first right of refusal.
06:50There was no franchise tag or nothing.
06:52And so, you know, we all understood that, you know, there's a good chance that he would leave.
06:55And I think he made a great career decision, obviously.
06:58I wish we could have done more.
06:59Stop it.
07:00Stop it.
07:01That whole we paid him a lot of money and didn't get anything for it.
07:06Oh, that's just that.
07:09I mean, come on, Bill.
07:10And first of all, he's lying.
07:11As we know, we played we played that yesterday.
07:12That part, we know he's lying.
07:14That was a bad shot about we paid him all of that money.
07:17By the way, you weren't paying him what other quarterbacks were getting.
07:19Like at that time, he wasn't the highest paid quarterback at that time.
07:23No, no, no.
07:24That was the summer in which Brady's contract, it was a big story.
07:29And Brady famously said, I don't know, go ask Mr. Kraft.
07:32Yep.
07:33About it.
07:34Exactly.
07:34There was a report.
07:35Including paying him, you know, a lot of money at the end of the year without anything for it.
07:40Wow.
07:40I mean, that's kind of a, I mean, that's not even kind of, that's a shot.
07:44But you know what's wild about all this?
07:46And Ken, I want to get back to what you're saying.
07:47Is that, so Bill Belichick, from the outside looking in, has done almost everything to ruin his reputation.
07:55Like he has, you know, after Brady left, the team just lost.
07:59He, not only did they lose, he had coaching malpractice.
08:03Something that should have been instantly fireable by bringing Matt Patricia in and having been the offensive coordinator.
08:08Hiring his buddies who had never worked those positions before.
08:11And it was just an absolute disaster.
08:13Then why the F not?
08:15Yes, of course.
08:16And then you got Jordan Hudson, who goes down to UNC and starts pissing off the people down there.
08:22And then you have, you know, him, you know, her wearing the Orchids of Asia shirt.
08:26And he's all happy about it.
08:28And then the team stinks.
08:29And now he's lying about Tom Brady and lying about everything that happened at the end here.
08:35And then taking shots at Tom Brady.
08:36Yet, yet, yet, we have more people who seem to be calling, emailing, yelling at Ted, whatever.
08:46There are more people on Team Belichick than Team Brady right now.
08:52Yeah, I don't know if it's scientific, but it certainly feels like it.
08:55Doesn't it feel that way?
08:56The people that have turned on Brady, including my buddy at the Beachcomber, like big time people of like, I
09:01can't, he's turned, something's happened and he's not the same guy.
09:04But Bill hasn't changed who he is, really.
09:07So it seems like he's just more accepted as this was Bill.
09:11It's almost as if Tom Brady not picking a side in the Super Bowl and joking that he would never
09:17come back to New England was way worse than something that actually affected the Patriots.
09:23Like, affected the team and how bad it was.
09:26And Nikhil Harry being drafted.
09:27Right, right.
09:28And then, you know, Tom went on to win somewhere.
09:32Bill's done nothing but fail.
09:33Even Ted, you would agree with that, right?
09:35Bill appears to be more well-liked in this region than Brady right now.
09:38It's feeling that way, guys.
09:40And I'm trying to come up with a good answer why that is.
09:43I just, yeah, I think there's a lot of truth in just the Bills continuing to be who he's always
09:50been where it feels like, I don't know,
09:52maybe Tom was perceived one way at one time, and now it's different.
09:57And so that's why the shift in support has gone more towards Bill's side.
10:02Meanwhile, John Henry is standing up there saying, you see what I mean?
10:06See what this guy did?
10:07And you love him?
10:09And I win four, and I'm hated, and I'm still here?
10:13I know, John's tough, buddy.
10:14But the one point I want to make is, you know, you talk about, you know, Bill, just he's lying.
10:20He's kind of fudging the truth, right?
10:22And it's like little, like, things that he lies about for no reason.
10:27Like, you know, when he did the cheating, the Spygate, it's like, well, what gain did you get from it,
10:33Bill?
10:34Really, not much.
10:35But then why did you do it?
10:36Like, he fudges the truth.
10:39He cheats on the margins for why.
10:42He doesn't need to do that.
10:44He's good enough without that, but yet he can't help himself.
10:48But this 978 texter, I think, sums it up.
10:50It's because Bill never took a shot at us New Englanders.
10:53Tom did.
10:55That's an excellent point.
10:56That's the best point I've heard so far.
10:58Because, I mean, the fans, when you were saying, I think the fans have turned on Tom Brady, I laughed
11:03at you.
11:03Yes, you did.
11:04I was like, come on.
11:05One of several occasions.
11:06This guy, like, literally was the best, the greatest athlete we've ever come through this city.
11:09He, you know, gave us a million great winters.
11:12You know, so many great, not a million great winters, several great winters.
11:14But it was an excellent time in our lives.
11:16We can all say that Tom Brady, we got to go to a game where Tom Brady played.
11:20For generations, he's one of the greatest.
11:23And yet, all he had to say was, I'll never go back to New England.
11:27Joke around that.
11:28And what was the other quote that he said?
11:31Oh, yeah.
11:31And he wouldn't pick the Super Bowl.
11:32No dog in the fight.
11:33He wouldn't give no dog in the fight.
11:34That one cut deep.
11:35All he had to do was that.
11:36And all of a sudden, it was like, out.
11:38Throw away those memories.
11:39Throw away those championships.
11:40Done.
11:40I got to respond to 978, though.
11:43Here's the thing.
11:44Yeah, he never put New England down.
11:45But you know what?
11:46He also cost New England a Super Bowl by not playing Malcolm Butler.
11:51Like, people, it's like, okay.
11:53There was the decisions he...
11:54Brady also fumbled at the end of that game.
11:57Are you kidding?
11:57I'm just kidding.
11:58Okay, okay, all right.
11:59I mean, you can't.
12:00You're serious.
12:00But you know what I mean?
12:01So it's like, he might not have said the things that Tom said.
12:04But he's done things that I think he was making decisions on his own behalf that weren't the best thing
12:11for the team that cost the team wins.
12:14And I think a Super Bowl when they didn't play Malcolm Butler.
12:18I just don't know how you can be out on Tom Brady.
12:21Like, 100% out.
12:22Well, again, it's not 100% out.
12:24And you don't forget what he did on the field.
12:27But currently, right now, you're just down on him.
12:29I think it could come back once Brady, like, gets out of the limelight a little bit, if that ever
12:34happens.
12:34I bet you his stock rises again.
12:36It's just right now he's in weird phase.
12:39And he's just cringy.
12:40I think that's what it is.
12:41He's just been pretty cringy lately.
12:43Bill Dayton, a 24-year-old, there's nothing cringy about that.
12:46No, no, no.
12:47Yeah, but it's also kind of like normal guy stuff.
12:51Like, Tom Brady's an alien.
12:52He's like a freaking weirdo.
12:53I mean, like, the way he delivers his lines when he's doing the roast are just so unbelievably awkward.
13:01Don't be a little bitch.
13:03Well, that was the best moment.
13:04Okay, that was the best.
13:05It's relatability.
13:06It's something about that.
13:08It's touching, you know, the common man.
13:10I don't know.
13:11Something about it, he's lost that ability.
13:14But that's why I can't wait for the Packers game.
13:16I can't wait to have him come back.
13:17And I hope he has a good telecast and says some nice things and curries some favor with the people
13:22again.
13:23It's going to be boring.
13:24What?
13:24It's going to be so boring.
13:26Yep, he's not going to say anything.
13:27No, he has to because Jordan loves on the field and Drake may.
13:30Whatever he says about one, we're going to compare to what he says about the other.
13:33So that's going to be read into.
13:35I mean, it's going to be so vanilla.
13:37He's so skilled at saying nothing, Ken.
13:39He just said, I had no dog in the fight.
13:41You talked about it for a week at the Super Bowl.
13:42That was him saying nothing.
13:45Yeah, but he said something.
13:46It was something.
13:47Then why the F not?
13:50And he had all those good jokes at the roast that you played.
13:53I mean, yeah, they're all good.
13:54The guy's peaking.
13:55They were all humdingers.
13:58I don't know.
13:59This is the top of his game right now.
14:00I just found it fascinating that Bill Belichick's literally doing everything that should be pissing people off.
14:06Just go, God, this guy, everything wrong.
14:08He's lying about what happened here.
14:09He's feeling everywhere.
14:10He's embarrassing himself.
14:12Yet Tom Brady just says, I don't really want to go back to New England.
14:15I don't have a dog in the fight.
14:16And everyone's out.
14:18People are way more team Bill right now than Tom Brady, which I never would have thought it happened.
14:23But it has.
14:24It has.
14:25How it has turned.
14:26Thank you for agreeing with me, finally.
14:27No, Ken, you won me over.
14:30I thought you were full of crap.
14:32And then all of a sudden, the listeners spoke.
14:34Every now and then.
14:36You're kind of on a heater these days, Kevin.
14:37Yeah, you're on a heater right now, Ken.
