00:07Jephthah's Daughter
00:10Jephthah was a mighty warrior, but his own family rejected him.
00:15Though he was the son of Gilead, his brothers and elders cast him out, saying,
00:20You have no place among us.
00:22Cast out from his father's house, Jephthah was forced to leave his home,
00:26not because he was weak, but because he did not belong.
00:31Jephthah fled to the land of Tob, a place far from honor and comfort.
00:36There, in the wilderness, the unwanted and the broken gathered around him,
00:40men with no home, no name, no place to belong.
00:45And there, among the castaways, the rejected became a leader.
00:50The exile found strength.
00:52The outcast became a warrior.
00:54When war threatened Israel, the elders of Gilead turned back to the man they had cast out.
00:59They came to Jephthah and humbled themselves before him,
01:03begging him to return and lead them into battle.
01:06The one they once rejected was now the one they desperately needed.
01:11Before the battle, Jephthah stood alone before the Lord.
01:14In desperation and in faith, he made a vow, saying,
01:18If you give me victory, then whoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me shall be
01:24yours.
01:25He asked for triumph, trusting God to deliver Israel,
01:29not knowing that vows made in haste can echo further than we ever intend.
01:33God granted Jephthah victory.
01:35The enemy was defeated.
01:37The battle won.
01:39Jephthah returned home a hero.
01:41Honored by men, celebrated by the nation,
01:45carrying triumph in his hands and hope in his heart.
01:47But as Jephthah drew near, the first to greet him was not a servant,
01:51not a soldier, not a stranger.
01:54It was his daughter, his only child.
01:57She ran to him with joy, with music and dancing,
02:01unaware of the vow her father had spoken,
02:03unaware that celebration would soon turn to sorrow.
02:06In that moment, Jephthah's heart broke.
02:09Victory gave way to grief.
02:11He saw the cost of a careless promise.
02:14A vow spoken without wisdom.
02:16His joy became mourning, and his strength gave way to despair.
02:21But his daughter did not meet him with anger.
02:23She listened.
02:24And with courage beyond her years, she accepted what had been spoken.
02:28Not in fear, but in faith.
02:31Together they faced the moment.
02:33With sorrow, with obedience, and with quiet trust in God,
02:38she asked only for time.
02:40Time to walk, time to reflect, time to prepare her heart.
02:44And as she went up into the hills,
02:46Scripture remembers her, not for what she lost,
02:49but for what she gave.
02:51A life of faith.
02:53A heart surrendered.
02:55What happened next is long debated,
02:57but what remains clear is her courage.
03:01Her story stands as a solemn reminder.
03:03God desires obedience, but also wisdom.
03:07And every word spoken before Him carries weight.
