00:00A shocking twist in the case of the Virginia principal on trial for the shooting of a first
00:04grade teacher at the hands of one of her young students. Ebony Parker, the former assistant
00:09principal at Richneck Elementary School, was charged with eight counts of child neglect,
00:13one for each bullet in the gun of that first grade shooter. The teacher who was shot blamed
00:18Parker for not stepping in to prevent this ahead of time after repeated warnings. Now,
00:23Parker faced up to 40 years behind bars if found guilty, but the judge in the criminal case did
00:28something wildly unexpected in the middle of trial. The prosecution rested its case on Wednesday.
00:33On Thursday, minutes before the defense was set to begin its arguments, Judge Rebecca Robinson
00:38tossed the charges. Case closed. Robinson called the initial indictment a, quote,
00:43mashup of legal theory and said, quote, there is no precedent for what is before the court.
00:48Now, Parker is still on the hook for 10 million bucks awarded to the teacher who survived the
00:53shooting, Abby Zwirner, after being found responsible in civil court. The former principal's
00:57attorney says that that verdict, however, is still being appealed, and Zwirner's lawyers confirmed
01:01their client has not seen a penny so far.
