Directed by the visionary Louis Malle, this high-spirited feature is a visually stunning explosion of Technicolor and 1960s style. Set in the lush jungles and towns of early 20th-century Central America, the story follows two very different women who share the same name: the fiery, explosives-expert Maria I (Brigitte Bardot) and the sophisticated, world-weary cabaret singer Maria II (Jeanne Moreau). After a chance meeting in a traveling circus, the two women accidentally invent the very first striptease act, taking the local frontier audiences by storm. However, their lighthearted cabaret tour is dramatically interrupted when they become entangled in a local political revolution against a cruel, aristocratic dictator. Armed with wit, charm, and a surprising amount of dynamite, the two Marias transform from accidental performers into heroic symbols of the resistance, fighting to liberate the oppressed people while maintaining their signature, glamorous flair.

Featuring incredible location cinematography, a brilliant score by Georges Delerue, and the unmatched screen presence of two of history’s greatest stars, Viva Maria! remains an immortal crowning achievement of mid-1960s European cinema. Our channel is fiercely dedicated to preserving historic film treasures, offering a curated library of vintage European adventures, timeless swashbucklers, rare b-movies, gritty film noir thrillers, and classic westerns.
