00:00It started in 2017 in the Isle of Man, but the Sovereign Art Foundation is actually a global sovereign matter.
00:11So it started in the Hong Kong office. It's huge in that part of the world.
00:19They actually have to limit the schools on how many applications they do.
00:24The idea of the Art Foundation Student Prize is that we encourage local students to nominate and put in their
00:33artwork and they can win a prize for themselves and the school.
00:37It's grown and grown. I think last year we had a record-breaking year with the most ever applicants ever
00:43and we also introduced our under-16 category.
00:46I think it's safe to say this is our chairman's labour of love. I remember he came over to launch
00:52the Isle of Man event and his speech will forever sit in my mind.
00:57His opening statement was, art is not frivolous and that's always stuck with me and it's a passion that he,
01:04if you ever meet him, he is such a charismatic guy and you just can't help but get infected by
01:08that.
01:09And it's sort of moved throughout the company and it's just, it's just such a cool initiative.
01:15I think it started from him, but it's something that really all of us carry as a value.
01:19You guys are amazing, go for it.
01:21Literally as simple as that, the artwork we get submitted every year is mind-blowing.
01:28And particularly at the gala night, when you talk to the artists and you can still hear that nervousness, that
01:33kind of uncertainty of almost that surprise of going,
01:37oh, I was, my art was good enough. This is happening to me.
01:40Absolutely. Like the quality of artwork on this amazing, on this island is just incredible.
01:46I can barely draw a stick man.
01:48So to look at what these people are producing, and this is all mixed media as well.
01:53So it's not just your traditional sort of canvas art.
01:56We get sculptures. We've had a couple of years, we've had fashion as well, which is really cool.
02:02Those pieces are quite cool.
02:05And just seeing all of that. So I would just encourage it.
02:08It's doing something for the local community.
02:10It's doing something for the young people on the island.
02:14It's giving them another platform to be able to showcase all their artwork.
02:20As Gaps has said as well, as our chairman, he is extremely passionate.
02:24He likes to see this going on.
02:26And as well as all of the art side of it, there's an ability to raise funds in a really
02:32nice way for local charities.
02:33And to bring people together a little more.
02:36We've had some really good engagement with other businesses who are helping support our event in different ways.
02:42They can go to our website and they can click on a link and they can submit their own artwork
02:47if they're homeschooled.
02:48Ideally, the teacher should be giving a reference to them getting it done.
02:52They can do it via their teachers through the school.
02:54All the art teachers are aware of it.
02:56Alternatively, if the art teachers need any support with uploading their artwork and submitting it,
03:03we can also offer support and guidance in there.
03:07The link's on our website and you can just click through and there's a platform just to upload it.
03:13They upload a picture of the artwork and a description of what it's all about.
03:16Closing date is the 31st of July to allow for exam time.
