00:01In a dense city like Taipei, with its crowded buildings and narrow alleys,
00:06firefighters already have a tough job.
00:08It's always a race against time to put up fires and save lives and property.
00:13But with more high-rises dominating the city's skyline,
00:17emergency personnel are facing new challenges.
00:30Because the fire will go up.
00:32If the fire is being destroyed,
00:34our firefighters are also affected by the fire.
00:37It will also affect our safety and safety.
00:44Though fire happens more often in older low-rise buildings,
00:48firefighters need to understand what to do if one breaks out in a taller one,
00:52where the challenges are far more complex.
01:09To handle these situations,
01:12firefighters undergo countless hours of training,
01:14simulating real-life scenarios where there is no room for error.
01:18And to better understand what it takes,
01:21I'm here gearing up in their equipment
01:22and getting ready to take part in a training session.
01:25And I have a feeling it's going to be really, really tough.
01:32The equipment includes a firefighting jacket,
01:35pants, boots, an air tank, oxygen mask and helmet.
01:39And with extra gear on top.
01:41The full set can weigh at least 30 kilograms.
01:44So, just climbing a few stories with all this equipment,
01:47I'm already exhausted.
01:49And it's really hard to imagine seeing them climb all the way up,
01:52maybe ten stories high.
01:54In a real fire situation, the climb is even tougher.
01:57We're going to climb to five, six層樓,
01:59we're going to get pressure, and it'll get warm,
02:02and it'll get tired.
02:03And we're going to get more than 10 stairs.
02:05We're going to get more equipment,
02:07and we're going to get more equipment,
02:08and we're going to get more equipment,
02:08and we're going to get more equipment,
02:10and we're going to get more equipment.
02:15And that's just with the normal loadout.
02:17Each team member also has their own designated role,
02:20which requires specialized training.
02:44People living in high-rises can also have a huge impact on rescue efforts.
02:49Firefighters urged the public to better understand fire safety and evacuation procedures.
02:54When the fire happens, we should be prepared.
02:58You don't need to use your escape route.
03:01You don't need to let your safety and clean.
03:06You don't need to be able to protect these equipment.
03:08This is the important thing.
03:10And not when the fire happens, we expect people to save you.
03:13This is the most important thing.
03:15Firefighters trained to handle emergencies in these towering buildings.
03:19But as cities continue to grow upward,
03:22public fire safety awareness could be more critical than ever before.
