00:01Artillery rips through the early morning sky off the coast of Tainan.
00:05The army held a dispersed live-fire exercise across both Taiwan and Pingdong on Tuesday,
00:09drilling fast-paced, unscripted combat.
00:12Tested weapons include Thunderbolt 2000 rocket launcher systems,
00:15fired for the first time at Pingdong's Manfen training ground,
00:19confirming long-range capabilities.
00:21While these weapons are usually used in training on Taiwan's east coast,
00:24the country's west presents different challenges for troops.
00:26In the west, because it can be found in a few areas,
00:31we do a small-scale weapon test,
00:35and to face the North Korean aircraft's船-船-船-船-船.
00:39So there will be a lot of military-船-船-船-船-船-船-船-船-船-船-船.
00:47But on the densely populated Les Mountain and its west coast,
00:50commanders usually have different strategies.
00:52This is the first time the army has carried out dispersed firing drills
00:56from different locations at different times.
00:57They're looking to emphasize troops' command and control capabilities.
01:01While previous life-fire drills often gave troops five or six days to prepare and move into position,
01:05these units only had one day to strategize and needed to react in real time to enemy maneuvers.
01:32Many members of the public showed up early to watch, highlighting how these exercises both train troops,
01:37and serve to reassure the public of the army's willingness to defend the country.
01:40It seems like the day is breaking.
01:42It's very震撼.
01:43It has such a weapon.
01:48I think we are the people of the Taiwan army.
01:54This all comes less than a month before the nation holds its annual Han Guang military and civilian exercises.
01:59As threats from China grow, Taiwan's military aims to show it knows how to respond.
