00:00This is Straight Outta Flushing, brought to you by your local Ford stores.
00:04Ford F-150 is the official truck of the New York Mets.
00:09Do you think, because of the start to the season,
00:12how it has not gone the way the Mets fan base thought it would go,
00:16that this might actually be the best thing that could happen for the organization,
00:20that they were accelerating to really solidify their roster for,
00:24whether it's this year, 2027, and beyond?
00:26This is a win-win situation for David Stearns and the New York Mets for the following reasons.
00:31If these kids continue to perform as Major League Caliber at minimum,
00:36it's going to position the Mets well, not only when it comes to the traded line this year,
00:40but as we get to 2027 post-lockout,
00:43because that's inevitably going to happen at this rate among other things.
00:46But if you position yourself in a manner where you do actually have multiple players
00:50that are blossoming earlier than you thought,
00:52then you figure out, okay, who do we want to stay part of this core?
00:57And who do we want to shop to build a greater core?
01:01So that is another thing to bear in mind here.
01:03I'm not just viewing it like, oh, AGU and Nick Moribito, Carson Mench,
01:06this will be the Mets outfield to begin next season,
01:08because at the end of the day, these guys' ceilings might not be enough
01:12for what the New York Mets need in this market with this payroll to get over the hump.
01:16But what it does great for them right now is it gives them a taste as to kind of
01:20what is going to be better for the team on the athleticism part.
01:24And it's something that they can really bear in mind longer
01:26should they have the success to say, okay, we want to keep these players
01:31or maybe we want to trade one or two of them to upgrade with a player
01:35that maybe is like that profile, but more polished
01:38and maybe is entering a contract here or maybe only has two years left
01:41and the team is not going to spend the way that the Mets would.
01:44You know, where the Mets would be like, for example, give you a great example.
01:47Let's go back to the Francisco Lindor trade, okay?
01:50It wasn't like Andres Jimenez was playing terrible to begin his young career
01:53for the New York Mets, but Francisco Lindor was the polished version.
01:58He was like, that's what you want.
02:00Like you want a star shortstop that is uber athletic.
02:03That's the guy.
02:04So you have to give to get.
02:06And Jimenez has never even gotten close to touching Lindor on the front.
02:11He broke out great.
02:12And now, you know, he's been up and down with the Blue Jays.
02:15So you look at that.
02:17I think that's a good example because that's how the Mets can approach this
02:20in a similar fashion.
02:21Give these kids a look, build a level of their trade value,
02:24hope that they don't hurt their trade value too much
02:26in these early sample sizes in the season,
02:29and then figure out like, you know, Carson Menger is more than likely
02:32not going anywhere.
02:33You don't want AJ Ewing to go anywhere.
02:34But if AJ Ewing does go somewhere, it better be because you just set up
02:38a package to bring in someone that doesn't have the health risk
02:42of Elise Robert, but has the five-tool talent upside of Elise Robert.
02:47And we don't know exactly who that player is right now,
02:49but that's all I'm saying.
02:50I'm not saying we should trade AJ.
02:51I'm just saying if you're thinking in the front office type of way,
02:55that's the way that I would be thinking if I'm David Stearns.
02:57There's various ways to look at this as a plus instead of a minus.
