00:06Wild Cracks!
00:07Hey, it's the Crack Brothers here. I'm Chris.
00:10I'm Martin.
00:11And it's alligator feeding time!
00:16We'll start with the smallest and move up from there.
00:19This one-year-old alligator will eat anything he can catch and fit in his mouth.
00:24And here's a favorite first food of an alligator hatchling.
00:28Dragonflies.
00:29Hungry?
00:30Two new dragonflies were so good.
00:33This is a three-year-old alligator.
00:36She is definitely ready for fish and mammals and a much bigger food.
00:40You got something, Chris?
00:41Easy, easy, girl.
00:43There you go. How about that?
00:46Wow!
00:49And the biggest alligator gets the biggest fish.
00:59Whoa! Fish juice in the face!
01:03Right down the hatch.
01:05An alligator this size has a bite force of about 1,000 pounds.
01:10The biggest crocodiles and alligators have a bite force of 5,000 pounds.
01:15That is the same amount of pressure as a pickup truck sitting on top of you.
01:21That's the power of this reptile's jaws.
01:24But alligators and crocodiles are about more than just sharp teeth and a deadly snap.
01:29Imagine meeting a completely different side to a crocodile.
01:33A side that is dedicated, protective, and maybe even caring.
01:37Then we'd be able to appreciate what these creatures are really all about.
01:41What if?
01:49On a adventure with the coolest creatures
01:51From the oceans to the trees
01:53The brothers' cracks are going places you never get to see
01:58Hanging with their creature friends
02:00Get ready, it's the hour
02:02We're gonna say some animals today with Creature Power!

02:11Gonna go wild, wild, wild
02:16Chitter-speed and lizards glide
02:18Falcon flight and lion ride
02:20It's gonna go wild, wild crabs
02:22Gonna go wild, wild, wild crabs
02:24Gonna go wild, wild crabs
02:26Gonna go wild, wild, wild crabs
02:29Go wild, wild, wild crabs
02:33Mom of a croc
02:40Oh, I think she's coming out of the water
02:42As long as she doesn't see us, we should be okay
02:54There she is
03:03Whoa, the mighty Nile Crocodile of Africa
03:09At over 20 feet
03:11One of the two largest types of crocodile in the world
03:16She's picked spots
03:17It shouldn't be long now
03:19Oh yeah, digging is step one
03:22Operation Crocodile Nest is underway
03:25Aviva, are they ready yet?
03:27Almost, but guys, I told you
03:29This plan of yours is not going to change my mind
03:32I just don't like crocs, period
03:35Oh, you'll like them after this adventure
03:37Yeah, Operation Crocodile Nest will prove
03:40That there's more to crocs than you think
03:42They're just big, creepy reptiles
03:44All I've seen them do is try to bite things
03:47They give me the shivers
03:48Yeah, that's why they're cool
03:55When they're far away from me
03:56Exactly
03:58See, and you guys think that when I see her lay eggs
04:01It'll make me like the big meanies all of a sudden
04:03I don't think so
04:06Miniaturizer ready
04:09Let's do this
04:14Miniaturized and standing by
04:16Okay, it's done
04:22Delivering secret disguise?
04:24Yeah
04:32Okay, go, go, go, go, go
04:42Whoa, look at those huge scoopfuls of sand
04:46She grabs with her hind feet
04:49We better hustle, Chris
04:57Whoa, now this is an impressive face
05:02I'll call her Crocodilla
05:04Oh, check out those teeth
05:0864 dagger teeth
05:10Twice as many as we have
05:12Oh, it's a good thing we just look like a couple of crocodile eggs
05:15See, you don't trust her either
05:18Just don't awaken the beast, guys
05:20I don't even think she sees us
05:24She's in that special trance that crocodiles get into when they lay their eggs
05:32The trance
05:34She's in step two
05:35Egg laying
05:37Let's go
05:38Did I crack?
05:41No, you're good
05:4356
05:4357
05:4557 eggs
05:48One by one, she lays her eggs in the nest chamber
05:51Whew, if all these hatch
05:53There'll be lots of little Nile crocodiles running around here in about three months
05:57Whoa
06:00She's burying them
06:01Are you kidding me?
06:03She just drops her eggs in a hole and covers them up?
06:06I told you guys, that is one cold creature
06:10We'll see
06:11Let's get in there, Martin
06:13What?
06:14Get in where?
06:15Where else?
06:16The nest
06:17We're crocodile eggs
06:18Those are our pals down there, Aviva
06:20Besides, how else are we going to find out the secrets of crocodile birth?
06:24Let's get crackin', Martin
06:31Woo-hoo!
06:36Guys, wait!
06:37We're losing you
06:40I'll have to make some adjustments to the signal receiver
06:45Whoa
06:46She's stomping the sand
06:47Looks like she's packing them in
06:50I knew this was a bad idea
06:52Never trust a crocodile
06:54I'm getting a signal again
06:57Go there, guys!
06:58We're fine!
06:59The eggs have landed
07:03She's done
07:04We did it!
07:05Ha ha!
07:06We're in a crocodile nest!
07:08Woo-hoo!
07:10Now what?
07:18Oh, she's holding her mouth open
07:20It's getting pretty hot up there
07:21About 90 degrees today
07:23But cooler down here
07:27Yeah, this sand is amazing
07:30Down here under a layer of sand
07:32The temperature hardly changes at all
07:34It's been about 85 degrees day and night
07:37The perfect temperature for these eggs to develop
07:39Oh, your mama knew exactly what she was doing
07:42When she put you in here, Chomp
07:44I thought that one was Crunch
07:45No, that's Jaws
07:47This is Chomp, that's Munch, Snapper, and...
07:50Fred!
07:52She's gone!
07:54Crocodile is gone!
07:55Where'd she go?
08:00Uh-oh!
08:01That's not her?
08:05Guys, don't look now, but...
08:08It's a raid!
08:09Too late!
08:10I'm already looking!
08:12Whoa!
08:13Oh no!
08:14Monitor the lizard attack!
08:16She slipped out the nest!
08:17Oh no!
08:18He's hungry for eggs!
08:19We're all gonna get Munch!
08:22Oh no!
08:30Oh no!
08:31These monitors are one of the major predators of crocodile eggs!
08:35No, wait!
08:37That's Fred!
08:38Stop!
08:41Egg thief!
08:43I can't believe that mother croc just abandoned her eggs!
08:47She should be protecting them!
08:48Uh-oh!
08:49I think the lizard's gonna regret this!
08:51Look!
08:52I can't believe that mother croc just abandoned her eggs!
08:55Incoming croc!
08:59Now that's a protective mama croc.
09:06Woo! Nice rescue, Crocodilla!
09:09Gotta get Fred.
09:19Hurry, Martin!
09:20She's covering the nest back up.
09:25I hope she doesn't see me and think I'm taking her eggs.
09:28Don't worry. I've got it covered.
09:31Nothing to see, girl.
09:35One crocodile egg over easy.
09:38Come on, Chris.
09:39Hey, but this is cool.
09:41I've never ridden a crocodile before.
09:43I'll stay out here with Crocodilla.
09:45Find out more about what being a mama croc is all about.
09:48Okay, keep that creature pot on.
09:50You got it, bro. Look out for those lizards.
09:54Hmm. Who would have guessed crocodiles were such protective moms?
09:58Huh. Or she was just hungry for a lizard lunch.
10:01Nope. It says here that lots of predators try to get croc eggs, monitor lizards, honey badgers, and even baboons.
10:10Wow. I thought crocodiles picked on everyone else, but I guess they get picked on sometimes, too.
10:16Only about half of her eggs usually survive the predators, so she guards her nest day in and day out
10:21for months while the eggs develop.
10:32Want to go riding today?
10:35That's what I thought.
10:39Raining hard out there. What's up with the croc?
10:43Guess.
10:49Amazing. She doesn't even eat for months.
10:53Whoa, months? Chris and Martin must be starving.
10:57PB and Jay coming at you guys.
11:04Oh, thanks, Jimmy.
11:10I got to admit, she does seem pretty dedicated.
11:13Uh, guys, she's gone.
11:16What? Where'd she go?
11:24Woo-hoo!
11:28Now this is the way to cruise an African river. Croc back riding.
11:33What about the eggs?
11:34Huh. I knew this dedication thing was too good to be true.
11:38Oh, it's a super hot day. Crocs are cold-blooded, remember?
11:42Their bodies take on whatever temperature is around them.
11:44So when they get too hot, a croc has no choice but to cool off in the water to survive.
11:50Well, she better get back to those eggs fast.
11:53She is.
11:54Uh-oh. We just have to get past those hippos.
12:01What do you mean, get past them?
12:03Now that's a cute animal. My kind of creature.
12:12Whoa! Crocodiles and hippos both rule these rivers.
12:15And hippos are just as tough.
12:19Those jaws can bite a 12-foot crocodile in half.
12:24Let's get out of here, crocadilla.
12:33Whoa!
12:38Woohoo! Nice move, Mom. Way to dodge those toughies.
12:44Aviva, what are you doing?
12:46Hippos are amazing. And able to stand up to crocs like that? I know just the invention we need to
12:51keep those crocs in line.
12:53No fair. You're favoring the hippos. The croc mom was just minding her own business. The hippos went after her.
13:00She's just not a fan of these crocs.
13:03Hey, Fred. All curled up and cozy in there. Looking good, little guy.
13:07Oh, wait a second. You're not a guy. Fred's a girl.
13:14Cokie, come in.
13:15Go, Martin.
13:17What's the temperature of this nest been?
13:1985 degrees. Same as almost every day you've been in there.
13:23That's it?
13:24What's it?
13:25The temperature! That's why all the baby crocs are girls.
13:30Because of the temperature?
13:31Yeah. Crocs become girls or boys based on how hot or cold the eggs are. If the nest is 88
13:38to 93 degrees, they grow into boys. If it's colder or warmer than that, they grow into girls.
13:45That's weird. Cool, but weird.
13:48Oh, I gotta rename everybody. Okay, let's see. Crunchina, Chompella, Munchette, Snappifer, and Frederica.
14:01Oh, no! Nesta, Mama Croc. Come in, Mama Croc. We've got another egg, dude.
14:07We're on our way, Martin. Had a hippo delay. Hang tight.
14:11Uh-oh. Hurry, Mama.
14:15Oh! Huh?
14:18More eggs?
14:24A saw-shell turtle!
14:26What are you doing laying your eggs right by a crocodile nest?
14:30You know, Crocadilla doesn't like anybody messing with her eggs.
14:34That's it?
14:35This turtle knows that if she can secretly get her eggs close to a crocodile nest, they'll be guarded by
14:41the Mama Croc, too.
14:42It's brilliant!
14:44Oh, Chris! Chris, call it off! False alarm! It's a turtle!
14:48A turtle? Uh-oh. Crocs will eat anybody they find messing with their nests.
14:56Whoa, Crocadilla! Slow down, girl!
14:59Hurry up! She's coming!
15:01Oh, how do you speed up a turtle?
15:04How do you slow down a giant croc?
15:09Whoa! Whoa! Take your time! Relax!
15:16Yikes! Okay, see you later! Thanks for stopping by! Go, go, go!
15:22Whoa! Whoa!
15:31Oh! Whew! That was a close one.
15:35Yep, you can't hold back a mom on a mission.
15:38Come on, Aviva. There is a softer side to these Crocs.
15:42Well, I am pretty impressed with how protective Croc moms are. Even the turtle mom knows it.
15:47But Crocs still always seem to be snapping their jaws at everybody.
15:52But the hippo snapped at her, and the monitor lizard tried to eat her eggs.
15:55Still, I'd like them more if there was a little less jaw snapping.
16:01Hatching! We've got a hatcher here!
16:04Which one is it?
16:05It's little Frederica. She's busting through!
16:10She did it!
16:12Welcome to the world, little croc!
16:14Yeah!
16:17She's making a baby croc call.
16:20And her sisters are calling, too!
16:22Baby crocs time their hatching so that they all do it together.
16:26Yup. There's Jorzana, Crunchina, Chombella, Munchet!
16:32Oh, come on, Snappifer! You're doing great!
16:36Ha! Even the little soft-shelled turtles are hatching. It's a hatch fest!
16:40Uh, yeah. Just one problem. It's getting crowded in here!
16:46That's because we're buried under a whole bunch of sand!
16:49Uh-oh! Help!
16:53Oh, no! The baby crocs are all hatching, but now they're trapped in their own nest!
16:59I can't believe I'm saying this, but those baby crocs are kind of cute.
17:03But what's that sound they're making?
17:06That's it! The baby crocs are calling for their mom!
17:09We've got to make more noise!
17:11Louder, everybody!
17:16Aviva, check it out! Topside!
17:18Come on! She hears them!
17:21Guys, she hears you!
17:23I can't believe it! She's coming to the rescue!
17:25Maybe I was wrong about her.
17:27Oh, right! Nice croaking, gang!
17:30Hey, Chombella, don't stop now!
17:35Here's Mama!
17:40Whoa! I never thought I'd be so happy to see that face!
17:46Uh, on second thought...
17:52She's eating her babies? I told you! Oh, these crocodiles! Just when I was starting to trust them!
17:59It's fine! She's not eating them! She's just picking them up!
18:03She knows how sharp her teeth are, so she's super careful!
18:07Huh?
18:08Martin! It's comfy in here, too! Her throat patch holds 20 of us!
18:14She's even taking the baby turtles! That's nice of her!
18:18Okay, I think we got a full load! Bus is packed and ready to go!
18:22But where are you guys going?
18:25To the water! Full croc ahead!
18:30I can't believe it! Now I'm totally blown away! Croc moms are... are...
18:36We know! They freak you out!
18:38No! They're the coolest! What kind of mom is more dedicated? More committed? They're amazing!
18:46Okay! First and only stop! The crash! That's a fancy word for the nursery pool!
18:52A nice, calm, quiet section of the river!
18:55Everybody out!
19:02Oh, hey! Everybody's looking good!
19:05You know, baby crocs are expert swimmers from the minute they're born!
19:10And Mama's off to get the rest of the kid crocs! We'll keep an eye on these ones for ya!
19:19Uh, Jimmy, can you pass me those rivets?
19:21What are you working on anyway?
19:23Oh, it's a...
19:24Oh no! We've got a problem!
19:26What?
19:27That!
19:33Guys! Behind you! Look who's back!
19:38Uh-oh! These monitor lizards don't only like eggs! They think baby crocs are pretty tasty too!
19:44You've gotta fill in for Crocodilla! Be a mother croc and get those meanies!
19:48Aviva! I thought you thought crocs were the meanies!
19:51Are you kidding me? She's just protecting her babies! Crocs are great! Now help them quick!
19:57We can't fill in for a Mama croc! We don't have a crocodile disc for our creature power suits!
20:04Unless this'll work! Aviva made a disc with gharial croc power when we were adventuring in Asia, remember?
20:10Since they're both crocodilians, it just might work!
20:14Activate creature power suits!
20:16Whoa!
20:19Come on! Come on!
20:25Yes! It worked!
20:27Sorry! A couple more Mama crocs just showed up!
20:33To the baby crocodile rescue!
20:42Back off, Maraboo Stork!
20:45These croc kits are under our watch!
20:54Easy, Honey Badger! No baby crocs for lunch today!
20:59Whoo! Nice croc action, bro!
21:01You too! But I hope Crocodilla gets back soon!
21:04There's a lot of predators out here!
21:06Okay, better do a quick head count!
21:08Let's see, Crunchina, Chompella, Manchette, Snap-a-Fur...
21:13Oh, hang on there, Josanna!
21:15Wait, where's Frederica?
21:17Oh, there you are!
21:19Well, everybody's safe and accounted for!
21:21Uh-oh! The transformation's not holding up!
21:27Chris! Here comes Crocodilla with the last load of baby crocs!
21:34Uh-oh! What's Crocodilla gonna think if she finds a couple of wild kratts with her babies?
21:41Whoa! I'm pretty sure she's not happy to see us!
21:44Uh, reactivate creature power suits!
21:48Uh, it's just a misunderstanding!
21:50We were protecting them while you were getting the others!
21:54Yikes!
21:57A hippo sub?
22:00Aviva!
22:01Get in, guys, quick!
22:12You're the best, Crocodilla! After all, Niall Crocs just might be the greatest moms in the world!
22:17A crocodile of a mom!
22:24Whew! Mission accomplished!
22:26We got a true insider's look at a totally different side of the crocodile!
22:30And I'll admit it, I love crocodiles now!
22:34I shouldn't have judged them before I got to know them!
22:36They're so much more than the mean, scary brutes I thought they were!
22:40I can't believe that they're so caring and protective of their babies!
22:44Yeah! The softer side of crocs!
22:47Where's Martin?
22:49Well, Mom still protects the baby crocs, but they need to catch their own food from day one, so I
22:55thought we'd help them practice!
23:00Yes!
23:02Okay! If you want to grow big and strong like Mom, you need to start small!
23:07Minnows, water bugs, dragonflies!
23:10Okay, who's first?
23:12Come on, take your best shot!
23:14Whoa! That's it, Frederica!
23:17Nice snap!
23:19And a good dodge, Martin!
23:21Whoa!
23:21Nice try, Trumpella! You almost had me! Way to make your mom proud!
23:27Whoo!
23:29Whoa!
23:33So there's a lot more to crocodiles and alligators than most people think!
23:37Who'd have thought she'd be such a devoted and protective mom?
23:46And baby alligators really depend on those moms!
23:53Did you hear that sound?
23:55That's her calling for her mom!
23:57When she's born inside the nest, she makes that call, and also when she's out on her own and she
24:03needs the protection of her mother.
24:05We better bring her back to her mom!
24:07It's not just crocs and alligators. A lot of reptiles put a lot of time and energy into protecting their
24:13eggs.
24:14Like ball pythons. This ball python is an incredible mother.
24:19She sits by her eggs, protecting them and controlling the temperature and humidity.
24:24Not eating for 90 days!
24:26If the eggs get too cold, the ball python mother will shiver her muscles to warm them up.
24:31Come on, we gotta show you something.
24:36These are ball python eggs, and in order to hatch them, we have to keep them in a constant temperature
24:41and humidity just like their mom does.
24:43To do that, we'll use this machine, an incubator.
24:47And just close it up, slide them in, and wait till they hatch.
25:02It's time! They're hatching!
25:06Each snake pokes his head out of the egg, has a look around, and then goes back inside.
25:15They'll keep doing this for a couple days.
25:18Until finally, two days later, the baby pythons are ready to slither out of the eggs for good.
25:25They're pretty long when they're born, and look like miniature versions of their moms.
25:31Unlike the little crocs, who are protected by their mom for up to a year after they hatch, the little
25:36pythons are on their own from the moment they slide out of that egg.
25:41And even at this small size, they're ready to go out and hunt mice, birds, and other small animals.
25:49Happy birthday, baby pythons!
25:51Keep on creature adventuring!
25:53And discovering that there's more to some creatures than you might think.
25:57See you on the Creature Trail!
