00:15Hi, my name is Jenny. I have a daughter in Year 3 at Wollongong Public School, and we're here
00:22this afternoon to share our concerns regarding the lack of pedestrian safety in our neighbourhood,
00:34particularly on Campbell Street. It's a very, very busy intersection, this one at Campbell
00:41and Keira, and we'd really like to see some safe pedestrian crossings for our kids, and
00:47for that matter, for the community at large. Hi, my name's Michelle, and these are my kids,
00:54Otis and Kaya. My son's at the Opportunity Class at Wollongong Public, and we have faced multiple
00:59challenges around public transport and how he can get here from an out of area space,
01:03some of which brings him on a bus to Smith Hill, meaning he has to go through these walking
01:07crossings that are highly unsafe. Mark Johnston, Vice President of the Wollongong Public School PNC.
01:13Yes, we're on the corner here of Keira and Campbell Streets, where a lot of students from both Wollongong
01:19Public School and Smith Hill High School cross on a daily basis. The intersection is very dangerous
01:24for pedestrians, both young people and for adults, because the traffic doesn't have to stop. You
01:30have to take your chance. There's a small traffic island behind me, but again, the cars aren't required
01:37to stop. You have to get the attention of a driver, and sometimes that can be very difficult. It would
01:42be
01:42great if council could improve this corner. There are other corners too, such as the one further
01:47along Campbell Street on the corner of Church Street. Again, very difficult for anyone to cross
01:52and quite dangerous.
