00:00It felt a lot more sentimental than the rest of the season in an interesting way.
00:05I wanted to ask, like, was that done on purpose?
00:07Did you want to go into this final episode with a different tone?
00:11I wanted it to land emotionally.
00:16I think the best series finales are the ones that make you feel something about those characters.
00:24My experience, anyway, of finales of shows that I love is you're saying goodbye to friends.
00:31You know, people who you've come to know and follow for years and years are going away, probably never to
00:39be seen again.
00:40And so I think the most satisfying for me experience of that is feeling something emotionally about those characters for
00:48their final, you know, their final bow.
00:51And obviously there was a lot at stake with Homelander's death.
00:55How did it feel to approach that?
00:56I mean, it felt like it was so satisfying and cathartic after so much time and all the different pieces,
01:08you know, because, like, it wasn't easy.
01:11You needed, ultimately, you needed Ashley to break the right way at the right time.
01:18You needed Annie to do her part with The Deep.
01:21And then finally, like, Kimiko, Ryan, Butcher, Homelander.
01:32And then ultimately, Butcher, Homelander.
01:34So I was pleased with, like, the, for lack of a better term, the clockwork of how it all rolled
01:45and how everyone got their moment.
01:47And it was just such a long time coming.
01:49And it's so satisfying to see him without powers and seeing, like, how strong men really act when their power
01:57is taken away.
01:58So it was just, it was immensely satisfying and it's fun to watch.
02:02I thought it was interesting, the decision to have him beg for his life.
02:07There's a historical precedent that when seemingly terrifying and powerful autocrats lose their power, they are blubbering pussies.
02:20There's examples all through history.
02:23And the truth is, is they're soft, wet, little boys.
02:29And they really are the nothing that we've been calling Homelander all season.
02:34Like, you take away those powers, what are you?
02:37You're nothing.
02:37And character after character has said that to him.
02:41And we wanted to bear it out to be true, that, like, he's got a glass jaw.
02:45He's a coward.
02:48He's only obsessed with himself and his own, you know, and his own safety.
02:55He's a narcissist.
02:57And he's just weak and puny.
02:59And if you were to just take away those superpowers, that's what you would be left with.
03:02I mean, and I loved getting to see a little bit of the Gen V cast as well in the
03:06show.
03:07Could you talk, could you maybe share a little bit about what you might have had planned for Gen V
03:10season three?
03:12Well, I mean, I don't want to, because we're hoping to fold it maybe into some other stories that we're
03:17starting to talk about.
03:18The point of where we wanted to send them was the best thing they can do is save people and
03:26letting, like, the torch from Maeve to Annie go from Annie to Marie.
03:35And that she's encouraging them to focus on, like, what it means to be a hero.
03:41And they were going to go off and have challenges and adventures, and hopefully we can get some of that,
03:47get that done.
03:49I love that you guys highlighted the parallels between Annie's story and Marie's story.
03:52I think that was so, like, beautifully done.
03:54And they were obviously great on screen together.
03:56Yeah, yeah.
03:57It turns out they're both pretty good actors, luckily.
03:59Yeah, surprise.
