00:00The world's fourth richest man is wading into the tax debate, and he's siding with working-class
00:04Americans. Amazon Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos appeared on CNBC's Squawk Box Wednesday and
00:11called for zero federal income taxes on the bottom half of earners, noting that the top
00:16one percent of taxpayers already pay 40 percent of all tax revenue, while the bottom half pay just
00:22three percent. Speaking from his Blue Origin rocket facility in Florida, Bezos said the U.S.
00:27in 2026 is a tale of two economies pointing to a K-shaped recovery in which wealthy Americans have
00:34benefited from the stock market boom, while others are squeezed by stubborn inflation and an
00:39affordability crisis. Using the example of a nurse in Queens earning $75,000 a year and paying more
00:45than $1,000 a month in taxes, Bezos called the idea of taxing lower-income workers absurd, saying there
00:52are something very powerful about zero. Bezos also addressed the calls for him to personally pay
00:57more, saying, I pay billions of dollars in taxes. If people want me to pay more billions, let's have
01:03that debate. But don't pretend that's going to solve the problem.
