00:00We need to stop comparing off-campus to heated rivalry.
00:03They're not the same.
00:04The media agree.
00:05Just because there's hockey, just because there's romance, does not mean that they're
00:09the same show.
00:10Yeah.
00:10It's like, oh, sports romance has always existed for forever.
00:13They explore similar worlds as hockey romances, but the stories at their core are different.
00:19Off-campus is not a gay romance.
00:21These books have existed since, you know, way before the current sports romance buzz
00:28has started.
00:29Elle Kennedy wrote off-campus in 2014, and then it came out in 2015.
00:34So she's like the godmother of hockey romance in particular.
00:39I'm like, let off-campus have its moment because they deserve it.
00:42It's also just like both can succeed and both can be great.
00:45They don't need to like be so compared to each other in terms of like, oh, well, this
00:48show is going to do well because heated rivalry did well.
00:50Like, of course, they're riding this fun wave of like people are invested in hockey romance.
00:54So the timing works out.
00:56Obviously off-campus is not just a straight version of heated rivalry.
00:59Heated rivalry was totally groundbreaking for representation.
01:02It's just like everybody loves love and throw hockey and hot guys in there and sure, sign
01:06me up.
01:07Hockey's the sport because they get sweaty and worked up.
01:11The fights in hockey, look, it's hot.
01:13I'm just gonna say it.
01:15Sometimes getting a little-
01:17That's what she's into.
01:17A little heated up.
01:18Look, we all have our thing.
01:19And that's why hockey romance works specifically because they get all of these feelings that
01:26come out in other ways.
01:28It's cold in an ice rink.
01:30You gotta warm up.
