00:09The group, led by Professor Monica Montefalcone, a 51-year-old marine ecologist from the University of Genoa, included her
00:17daughter Georgia and two young researchers.
00:20They died on May 14th while exploring a cave system at Vavu Atoll in the Maldives.
00:25One body was recovered on the day of the incident, with two more retrieved on Tuesday from a cave at
00:31a depth of about 60 meters.
00:33A member of the Maldivian National Defense Force, MNDF rescue team also died on Saturday from decompression-related complications during
00:43the recovery operation.
00:44Italy later launched an international recovery effort after the death of MNDF Diver Staff Sergeant Mohamed Mahoudi forced a temporary
00:54suspension of operations.
00:56Authorities said the Maldives prohibits tourist diving beyond 30 meters and are investigating whether the group descended well beyond the
01:04permitted limit.
01:04The incident is now regarded as the deadliest diving tragedy in the country's history.
