00:00What could you possibly get for the girl who has everything?
00:02If you're Travis Kelce, it would appear, a suite of jewelry once owned by Elizabeth
00:06Taylor will do nicely.
00:13Over the past several weeks, Taylor Swift has stepped out in various pieces from a collection
00:17of opal jewels hailing from the late movie Star's estate.
00:20First, a ring and round cut bracelet for an April outing in NYC, followed by a similar
00:25marquee-shaped bracelet for her recent New York Times Magazine interview.
00:29Then, shortly after the Grammy winner was spotted in Brooklyn on Saturday night wearing
00:33the full suite, including both bracelets, the ring, and a show-stopping set of matching
00:38chandelier earrings, Fox Estate Jewelry's Adam Fox shared an Instagram reel suggesting
00:43Kelce may have purchased the one-of-a-kind set for his bride-to-be.
00:46We sold that set during Christmas time, end of 2025.
00:50I wake up this morning to an Instagram post and it turns out that it was bought either
00:55by or for Taylor Swift.
00:56Designed by Darlene de Seydal, the full suite was sold by Christie's in 2011 for $6,000,
01:02as the auction house confirmed to me, and it was later sold by Fox's company via First
01:06Dibs in 2025 for $125,000.
01:10The sale took place during Christmas time, Fox said in his video, and the buyer was a sports
01:15agent.
01:16Not exactly his usual sort of customer.
01:18On the majority of these online platforms for higher-ticket items, somebody will reach
01:23out, ask questions.
01:25Sometimes they will try to negotiate, sometimes they won't.
01:28This just randomly sold, the third-generation estate jeweler told me.
01:32Despite the, quote, very strange nature of the purchase, Fox shrugged it off.
01:36That is, until he woke up on Sunday to a post from Instagram account WeWoreWhatJewels showing
01:42the full suite on Swift.
01:43I was like, ah, this makes so much more sense, he told us, adding that it was very cool,
01:49direct quote, seeing jewelry he sold wind up on one of the most famous women in the world.
01:54As for whether Kelsey or a member of his team was the mystery buyer, I'm just the jewelry
01:58dealer, he demurred.
02:00I just had to assume.
02:01And the only reason I assumed that was because it was going to a sports agent.
02:05The suite was a perfect present for Swift on multiple levels.
02:08The pop icon's most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl, includes a song inspired by
02:13Elizabeth Taylor.
02:14And then there's her smash hit Opalite, an upbeat ode to Kelsey that the Chiefs player
02:18has called his personal favorite tune from the record.
02:21The opal also happens to be Kelsey's birthstone, but Swift's connection to the gem predates
02:26the pair's relationship.
02:28My favorite stone is an opal because when I was bullied in school, my mom used to take
02:31me to TJ Maxx after school to look at the opal jewelry, she told us weekly in 2016.
02:36I thought opals were so beautiful and somehow it made me feel better.
02:40We never bought them, just looked.
02:42Foxx had initially been drawn to the suite due to its Hollywood provenance, quote, very
02:47good quality and unique designer.
02:49While Taylor reportedly owned a number of Darlene de Seydel's pieces, the jeweler's
02:53far from a household name.
02:55It's not something that's ever run across my desk, he said of the set, crafted from black
02:59opals and natural crystal set in 22-karat gold.
03:02And following the 2011 Christie sale, the pieces disappeared from public view for more than
03:06a decade, adding to their intrigue.
03:08I'm just glad it went to somebody that actually appreciates it.
03:11I know Taylor Swift has a song about Elizabeth Taylor, and it all makes sense.
03:15It seems like it was bought with a lot of purpose.
03:17There was obviously a lot of thought put into this one, Foxx said.
03:20And coming from somebody like Elizabeth Taylor and going to somebody who, among today's
03:24generation, is just as recognizable as Taylor was back then, I think that's very cool.
