00:00Do you know Biril? I think so, but I'll still quickly remind you of the
00:03concept.
00:04Biril is a photo sharing application that is a little different from what we are used to.
00:08Here, there were no retouchings, no staging; the basic concept was simple.
00:13Once a day, you receive a notification at the same time as all other users.
00:18You then have two minutes to take a picture with the front and rear cameras of your phone.
00:24As an added bonus, the social network is French for once.
00:28The idea behind Biril was to capture authentic moments.
00:31The initial goal was to have this application only for friends.
00:36Except, of course, an app with only one post per day isn't viable.
00:41from an economic point of view.
00:42The app had no ads and users used it once or twice a day.
00:46But how do you make enough money to run the app without making it addictive like Instagram or TikTok?
00:54Well, that's impossible.
00:55We have observed for more than a year now that strategic changes are underway at Biril.
01:00We initially had the option to post two Birils when posting the first one at the
01:05'hour.
01:05This feature was called Biril Bonus.
01:08The idea wasn't so bad initially, since it forced and, above all, encouraged users to post the
01:15First Biril on time.
01:16This was becoming less and less the case, as people preferred to choose the best time of their day.
01:20to post
01:21rather than the moment they received the notification and were sitting in their room watching YouTube.
01:28Then we had the emergence of Real People and Real Brand.
01:32Simply put, it was a feature that opened Biril up to celebrities and businesses.
01:36But this idea goes completely against Biril, which saw itself as a different kind of social network.
01:41where there were no businesses or celebrities.
01:45So you can now follow hundreds of brands and influencers to see their Biril account.
01:50The app even encourages us to follow them with real fan badges when we react often enough.
01:56upon their publication.
01:57They then added a flame system, like on Snapchat, to force users to make their posts every
02:04the days
02:04and keep them constantly returning to the application.
02:08The final blow that destroyed Biril's concept, I think, was the acquisition of the platform
02:13by Voodoo in June 2024.
02:16Voodoo is a French company that makes video games for phones.
02:20So, we're not talking about Fortnite or PUBG here, nor Call of Duty or GTA.
02:25We're talking about pointless video games with ads and mediocre graphics.
02:30It's often the video games we see in ads that we want to close immediately.
02:33You are currently seeing them on your screen.
02:36So, this company bought Biril to, I quote, help it grow and find the right business model.
02:43Less than a week after Voodoo's acquisition of Biril, we received an update on the
02:48Biril's privacy policy
02:50and the application started collecting our data like Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and all other social networks.
02:57We also witnessed the arrival of pubs on Biril and the merger of the English Real People and Real Brand.
03:05and Friend.
03:06So now we have a single feed like on Instagram where we see our friends, influencers, and brands
03:12And in the middle of all that, advertisements.
03:15The maximum number of Biril has been increased to 6 per day.
03:19The app has become almost a copy-paste of Instagram in the end.
03:22The difference is that, on average, Instagram users spend more than an hour on the app per day.
03:28and those from Biril only 10 minutes.
03:31Voodoo's objective is therefore to continue its momentum, to make us spend even more time on the application.
03:37particularly with the new messaging tab.
03:39I have never seen anyone use Biril's messaging tab so far.
03:43But it exists if needed.
03:45It's a shame to see an application that was so original at the start turn into another
03:51ordinary social network
03:53while it had a nice concept for letting us see our friends' lives without scrolling for 3
03:59hours.
04:00But Voodoo isn't going to stop there.
04:01I think we could have a tab like on Instagram in the near future.
04:05with Biril in a few-second video to make us waste more time.
04:10and we could also have a new tab that allows us to see post suggestions
04:15because currently that's not the case and we only see the people we follow.
04:19Thank you for watching this video to the end.
04:21Feel free to give me your opinion on Biril in the comments.
04:25Do you use it? What do you think of these new features?
04:28If you enjoyed this video, please give it a like and subscribe.
04:32And I'll see you soon for the next video.
