00:03Welcome along to flash highlights of Tuesday's Tuscan Time Trial, stage 10 after the second rest date, between Viareggio and
00:13the Marina in Massa, the Massa Tudor individual time trial, and a really long one by modern standards too, 42
00:20km in total, just 49 m of elevation, flat, fast with a gentle tailwind pushing it all the way northward.
00:30Along the Tuscan coastline, first rider off at quarter past one was Frank Vandenbroek, the Dutchman of Team Picnic Postanel,
00:38most of the early riders setting off with one minute between them, the latter riders with three minutes between them,
00:43and we were looking to the big guys, the time trial specialists, Max Walscheid, the German for Lidltrek, of course
00:49one of them, as was the Dane, Johan Priest-Petersen of Alpersen Premier Tech, off sixth rider as well, and
00:58he would be one of those.
00:59In fact, these two would be the two riders setting the times to beat at the intermediate time checks as
01:05we went through them.
01:08And that was Johan Priest-Petersen doing exactly that, not ducking out of the action on this individual time trial
01:15in Tuscany. Ideal conditions really, not too hot, but the sun was out on the Tuscan coastline, as were the
01:21crowds, on a Tuesday afternoon to welcome the Giro d'Italia.
01:27Max Walscheid was sprinting to the finish, and getting himself into the hot seat, fantastic ride for him.
01:35Johan Priest-Petersen, good ride, but not quite enough. All eyes were on the Italian champion, Filippo Ganna, the our
01:42record holder of course, world record holder, in the start gate and off to a massive cheer at the Tuscan
01:48crowd.
01:5042 kilometres. He would have been absolutely licking his lips, Ganna, when he heard this one announced.
01:56Sjord Bax would be the next leader, the Dutchman, for Pinarello Q36.5, and he was off 36th of the
02:04167 who started stage 10, the time trial.
02:08And to nobody's great supplies, Pippo Ganna was setting the fastest times at the time checks too.
02:15Remy Cavagna was rolling back the time trialling gears, reminding everyone just how good he is on the TT bike.
02:21But meanwhile, Pippo Ganna closing in on the line and beating Sjord Bax's time by pretty much two minutes, as
02:29you see.
02:30Cavagna doing a good ride as well, the Frenchman, former French time trial and road race champion too.
02:37Derek G. West setting out for Lidltrek to see if he could improve on his general classification placings, starting the
02:45day in 14th place, 6 minutes 15 down.
02:48Jai Hindley had been looking so good in the mountains, as had Ben O'Connor, started the day in 8th,
02:545 minutes 3 seconds down.
02:56The Climby Tykes looking to see if they could outdo each other in this time trial and scramble their way
03:01up the general classification.
03:03Time and Ahrensman's also looked so good in the mountains so far, but we know how well the Dutchman can
03:08time trial.
03:10Keeping a close eye on Derek G. West, the Canadian, while Jai Hindley was starting.
03:17Hindley, of course, starting the day just off the podium in 4th.
03:23And then came Jonas Viñego in the blue jersey, the Malia Azura of the King of the Mountains.
03:31Would it be the Malia Rosa come the finish, though? That was the big question.
03:36Speaking of which, the Malia Rosa himself, the man who's led this race for more than half of the race
03:42stages so far, Alfonso Iolaglio.
03:47A lot of people thought he wouldn't survive beyond Blockhouse, but he did that.
03:51He survived the weekend, he survived the second rest day.
03:54And here he was in the Malia Rosa in the time trial, the only time trial in this year's race.
04:00Could he hang on to the race lead?
04:02Derek G. West finished.
04:04I mean, we're comparing his time to Pipo Ganna.
04:07Actually, it was a good ride.
04:11And then came time and Ahrensman.
04:13Ignore the time deficit to his teammate Pipo Ganna, because he was going in second.
04:19Great ride by the Dutchman.
04:20Inside two minutes down to one of the greatest time trialists of all time, Pipo Ganna.
04:27And then came Jai Hindley.
04:32Jai Hindley actually probably performing a roundabout where most people would have expected him to.
04:38Then came Jonas Vinjogor.
04:39Three minutes down on Pipo Ganna.
04:43And then came the Malia Rosa himself.
04:46And as he was coming to the line, the calculators were out.
04:48Had Alfonso Iolaglio done enough to hold the lead?
04:51You'll see that in just a moment.
04:52Pipo Ganna knew what we'd all known for some time.
04:55What a dominant win in this 42k time trial ahead of his own teammate, Tymon Ahrensman, in second.
05:03And there it was.
05:04Alfonso Iolaglio had done it.
05:0627 seconds his lead after today over Jonas Vinjogor.
05:10But he would start another stage in the Malia Rosa.
05:13Paul Magne still pretty in the Malia Ciclamino, of course.
05:19And Jonas Vinjogor leading the Malia Azura, the King of the Mountains competition.
05:27Malibianca is, of course, that of Alfonso Iolaglio.
05:32What a race he's having.
05:33Can he hold on to the Malia Rosa?
05:35Join us tomorrow.
05:36All right.
05:37Bye.
05:37Bye.
05:40Bye.
05:40Bye.
05:41Bye.
05:41Bye.
05:42Bye.
