In 1795, King George IV married his cousin Caroline of Brunswick — and it became one of the most disastrous marriages in British royal history.
From the moment they met, both hated each other. Caroline was known across Europe as the "unwashed princess." George immediately asked for alcohol after greeting her. They spent just three nights together — and never shared a bed again.
But it only got worse.
George spent the next 26 years trying to legally destroy her — putting her private life on trial before Parliament in an attempt to divorce her. Britain took Caroline's side.
Then in 1821, George was crowned king. Caroline showed up to the coronation. They locked the doors of Westminster Abbey against her.
She died 19 days later.
This is the royal scandal British history rarely talks about. ───────────────────────── #RoyalHistory #KingGeorgeIV #BritishHistory #RoyalScandal #HistoryFacts
