France passed a law that changed everything. Supermarkets can no longer throw away unsold food.
It's the first law of its kind in the world.
Large stores must now donate edible, unsold products to charities and food banks. No more dumping. No more locking bins. No more pouring bleach on food to stop foragers.
Before the law, French supermarkets donated 35,000 tonnes of food. Even a 15% increase could mean 10 million more meals a year.
The penalty for breaking the law? A €3,750 fine.
Now campaigners want the whole EU to follow.
Worldwide, 1.3 billion tonnes of food are wasted every year. France just proved there's a better way. 🇫🇷🥫
