Transcript
00:00We've got to keep, first of all, representing George Strait right now.
00:06I love the jacket.
00:07Where'd you get this piece?
00:08I think a guy that used to play drums for me gave it to me.
00:11He had got it somewhere, I don't know.
00:13And one day he just came, showed up at a show and was like, man,
00:16I haven't worn this in a while.
00:17I think you'll put it to good use.
00:18Yeah, thanks, you're right.
00:19Well, I'll put it to good use at the ACM.
00:21How about that?
00:21That's right.
00:22Here it is.
00:23Shout out Ronnie Goodrich.
00:25Thank you so much, man.
00:26You look absolutely incredible.
00:28Thanks.
00:28Who are you most excited to meet tonight?
00:30I know there's so much going on behind us.
00:32Oh, yeah.
00:32It's very overwhelming.
00:33Yes, there's a lot going on.
00:35I just got to see Leanne Womack.
00:37I guess I get to sit with her today.
00:38So I'm pretty excited about that.
00:39Casual.
00:40One of my favorite gals singing of all time.
00:42So yeah, that'd be fun.
00:43That's very exciting.
00:43You're talking about what you're excited about, like,
00:44Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, like,
00:46ranking up those types of nominations is wild.
00:48So what do you feel like has gotten you to this point with this project?
00:51Man, I don't know.
00:52I guess I'm glad we dodged the sophomore slump.
00:55It happened.
00:56Right.
00:56We dodged that one.
00:57That was good.
00:58Man, I'm so proud of this record.
01:00I'm proud of the songs we wrote on it and glad that they've connected with folks.
01:05I feel like a lot of my writing kind of matured a lot, I think, on this second record.
01:09And it's been fun to see everybody embrace that and be as excited about it as I am.
01:13Okay, you said your writing matured.
01:15Yeah.
01:15So what I want to follow up with that is you have a song on the first album.
01:18Yeah.
01:18That you feel cringe about now?
01:20No.
01:20No, nothing I feel cringe about at all.
01:22We love everything.
01:22At all.
01:23I can't believe I wrote that.
01:24Yeah, no.
01:25Just another little, like, layer of depth, I feel like, on some of the newer stuff.
01:28But I love them all.
01:29Okay, good, good, good, good.
01:31No growth pains.
01:31So you're leading the 90s country revival.
01:33How important is it to you to keep that sound alive?
01:36And, I mean, it's such a unique sound that you have.
01:38How special is that?
01:39Yeah.
01:39Appreciate that.
01:40Yeah, it's, I mean, that's kind of how I fell in love with country music and what made
01:44me fall in love with it was that type of sound.
01:47So I don't know how to do anything else.
01:49I'm glad that other folks are enjoying it, you know, a little comeback of that sound, too.
01:53So I think, you know, there's something about just the roots and traditions of where this
01:57music comes from is very important to me, and I'm glad folks are still enjoying that.
02:02And then when you say 90s, what is your favorite 90s country album?
02:05Album?
02:06Yes.
02:07Or artists.
02:08You can do artists if you want to be more general.
02:10That's such a tough, yeah.
02:10Or song.
02:11I would, all the albums that come to mind are a little before the 90s, actually.
02:16But, I mean, it's hard to argue with old Alan Jackson.
02:21A lot about living, you know.
02:23Oh, man, Alan Jackson, legend.
02:24My mom is sitting here watching agreeing with you going, yes.
02:27Right answer.
02:28I love it.
02:29Right answer.
02:30Well, thank you so much, man.
02:31Have so much fun tonight, man.
02:32Have so much fun.
02:33Congratulations on everything.
02:34Please watch out for me grabbing that jacket later, okay?
02:35Yes, sir.
