00:02We are in the eastern side of Milan, known as Città studi, due to the presence of a lot of
00:09different universities.
00:14The primary use of this apartment is for students to live in it, as universities are really close to this
00:21building.
00:24This building was built at the beginning of the 20th century.
00:31The studio is hidden on the top floor of this historical building and actually in the past was used as
00:38an attic, so as a service space.
00:44The flat is pretty much 10 square meters plus a loft of about other 4 square meters.
00:58The project was inspired by the yacht design world with a tailor in touch.
01:03In fact, we tried to give everything a multifunctional use and provide a lot of storage space.
01:12When we first found the apartment, the loft was already there, but the existing walls were without any characterization and
01:20the space was in total need of a renovation.
01:26The original design used to have a ladder to access the loft. We added a staircase in order to have
01:32an easier access to the sleeping area.
01:35We decided to move the kitchen in the entrance and add a filter between the two spaces, just to make
01:43the living the real core of our project.
01:50The entrance opens onto a small but functional kitchen. We reused the old kitchen that was already inside the apartment,
01:59following our idea of a sustainable renovation.
02:06Even though the kitchen is as small as a wardrobe, we managed to fit a sink, hot plates, storage spaces,
02:15even a washing machine, microwave and also a fridge.
02:21Opposite the kitchen, we have a wardrobe for clothing and other storage spaces.
02:32There's no door separating the kitchen and the living room, but we decided to use a curtain.
02:38The curtain helps soften the design and giving a bit of color to the light wood.
02:46In the living room, we find a sofa on the top of a big piece of furniture that is actually
02:52the landing of the staircase also.
02:55Underneath, we can find storages and drawers.
03:02On the opposite side, we can find a useful shelf and close to the kitchen, a table for two that
03:09can be easily folded to make the living room a bit more spacious.
03:20We have a large window that gives natural light to the living room.
03:25According to the fact that it's pretty much two meters high, we installed a motorized window and blind.
03:33We installed a sliding door for the bathroom and we designed a small pocket to use the same material of
03:43the staircase.
03:44So when the door is open, you have this continuity in the color and the material.
03:53The bathroom is quite small, but actually it provides all the uses we need.
04:03There is a floating staircase that leads to the sleeping area.
04:08It is in black metal and it hangs from the ceiling.
04:13It's really geometrical.
04:15In fact, if you take a look from the front, you can see that it creates kind of an open
04:21and empty volume with the repetition of the element going upstairs.
04:27Upstairs, in the sleeping area, the main protagonist is the bed.
04:32Considering that it's just four square meters, we added some box-shaped wooden volumes that float above the living room
04:40that can be used as side tables.
04:43We also included a PowerPoint for the user to charge the laptop or the phone during the night.
04:52It used to be different floors inside the apartment.
04:56We decided to paint the floor in one color to give the continuity with the dark blue.
05:07In such a dense city as Milanese, giving a second life to these small spaces is not only important but
05:14also a necessity.
05:16Even though this apartment is thought for students that do spend a lot of time outside, we design it not
05:24only according to their needs but also to provide them a lot of comfort.
05:29So assessor is high.ает
