00:05El Camarín
00:06El Camarín is the home of a young professional cupper, an actor and a lawyer.
00:15The apartment is located in Chacarita, a historic area of Buenos Aires.
00:25It is located in a fairly central area of the city, but at the same time maintains a network scale.
00:37This building was built in the 1950s, but it was probably later reformed and fragmented to obtain temporary residence.
00:51All the apartments are very small, but complete with a bathroom and kitchen.
01:07When we first came to the apartment, it was very dark, with a small French door that opened onto a
01:14curved balcony.
01:15Almost unusable due to its proportion and relation to the interior.
01:21The small space had a kitchen area against the balcony wall.
01:30The plan did not change much.
01:34The kitchen and the bathroom were left in the original places, to take advantage of the existing pipe.
01:43We allocated the bed on one side of the apartment and used a shelving to separate the living and the
01:50sleeping area.
01:54We also wanted it to receive more natural light and to become more airy.
02:03When you first walk into the apartment, you are greeted by the large balcony doors.
02:12We completely demolished the old wall that separated the interior from the exterior.
02:21By using folding doors, we completely opened up the balcony and extended the living room.
02:31We installed white perforated metal screens around the balcony.
02:40We installed white perforated metal screens around the balcony.
02:54We installed white perforated metal screens around the balcony.
02:55We built a storage plus shelving unit.
02:58It also acts as a separation between the two zones, yet allows lights and air to come through.
03:09The sleeping area fits a queen size metal.
03:14And below the bed, there is plenty of storage space.
03:21We also created a study nook, just next to the sleeping area.
03:33The kitchen is small, but it has everything you need.
03:38We have a double electric cooktop, oven, fridge and pantry.
03:46The bench top is made out of the same material as the floor, which is polished concrete.
03:56We also built a fold-up dining table, that can be put away when it is not being used, to
04:04free up more space.
04:09The bathroom is accessible from one of the doors of the wall unit.
04:14The floor and wall are made of polished concrete.
04:19We have a rain shower on one side.
04:24And on the other side, we integrated the laundry and sink within the bathroom.
04:31We designed a multifunctional leather, which also serves as a shelf to put shampoos and body soap.
04:43Through a small window, this leather leads us up to the terrace on top of the building.
04:51We designed a round wooden deck for seating, and a light pergola.
04:57In the middle of the deck, there is a fireplace.
05:02This outdoor terrace can be like an oasis, in an urban setting.
05:10Working on existing buildings fragmented into small spaces is interesting because it presents a major challenge.
05:20We focus on identifying a principal function, to develop a comfortable life for the clients.
05:28We can remove the preconceptions related to housing, and understand the real needs of everyday life.
