00:32who will be telling us all about following in the footsteps of Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra
00:36as they bring the classic comedy musical High Society to the stage this is up our street yes
00:42very very fab so it's jazz hands at the ready because at the end of the show they'll be joining
00:47the rest of the cast for an exclusive performance of let's do it let's fall in love put together
00:52especially for the one show so it's such a yeah we saw the rehearsals it is going to be fabulous

01:08comedy film that I guarantee will have you laughing out loud it's fantastic it's very very very good
01:13plus ahead of the Eurovision grand final in Vienna which is tomorrow the Eurovision legend that is
01:18Sonia is behind the tills in the we're all to find out how local shoppers are preparing to celebrate
01:23we love Sonia don't we good time and we've got even more music coming up as Mina Shannon meets rockstar
01:29Guy Pratt who has swapped playing bass with Pink Floyd for ringing bells at his local church finds out why
01:34a little bit later in the show but time now to say a proper hello to tonight's wonderful guests
01:39please welcome Helen George Freddie Fox Felicity Kendall and Tom Davis welcome welcome welcome
01:47now as I mentioned at the start of the show it is a big weekend for finals now Tom not
01:52to rub it in
01:52sadly your beloved West Ham didn't quite cut it for the FA Cup final but it's okay because you're a
01:59big
01:59Eurovision guy I'm a massive yeah that's my constellation of football I've sort of passed on to Eurovision now
02:05so it's serious business for you big time I take it like a football tournament okay and I pick a
02:11country and that's what I do I just stick by them do you know who you're going to pick yet
02:14or is it on
02:15the night I'm not too sure it's a bit weird because this is my wife's away so I'm going to
02:18be watching
02:19it solo it's not good you know just as I said it out loud becomes very tragic just shouting at
02:25the tv
02:26like a mad old man
02:27and make you company
02:28this is a sort of sad look into the future really
02:31never
02:32well you might be a bit jealous of Helen because are we right that you were on the UK jury
02:37in 2020
02:38I was actually
02:39what was that like?
02:40it'll be you next year don't worry
02:41exactly
02:42yeah it was fun it was amazing we were just locked in a room with some wine and we had
02:45to judge all the contestants it was great
02:48best night ever
02:48that sounds like a great time
02:50yeah it was great
02:50I reckon you're in there Tom
02:52we'll sort it out
02:53I'm going to put together a single
02:54there we go
02:55let's do it together
02:56exactly
02:57well from the glitz of Eurovision to the glamour of old Hollywood because Helen, Freddie and Felicity here are preparing
03:04for a brand new production of Cole Porter's iconic High Society to take to the stage
03:09yes it's the romantic comedy musical based on the 1950s film starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and of course Frank
03:16Sinatra
03:17it tells the story of a wealthy socialite whose wedding plans are thrown into chaos when two other suitors
03:23get involved
03:24so Helen you play Tracy who's all ready to get married then these two people turn up and things get
03:31a little bit tricky don't they?
03:33yes I mean the first person that turns up is her ex-husband
03:36so this is what's so interesting about Tracy because it's set in 1951 and she's a divorcee which is kind
03:41of rare for a woman in those days
03:43and then we meet Mike as well who's another suitor who's a journalist that comes to the house and really
03:48but we know that the guy that she's supposed to be marrying George maybe isn't the best fit for her
03:53so her whole family are trying to get rid of George really
03:57but it's a beautifully romantic piece and they're sort of these extraordinarily rich wealthy you know beautiful people in this
04:06gorgeous house and the dresses are lovely the suits are amazing
04:11but it's it's this kind of like modern take on on it I suppose in a way it's sort of
04:17like watching White Lotus or something because they're these ridiculous characters that you can't take your eyes away from
04:22but the themes of romance and love especially you know in a time like today when we're all stressed about
04:28the world it's a really beautiful escapism
04:31yeah we love the escapism of theatre all day now Felicity you play Margaret she is the mother of Helen's
04:39character what kind of woman is Margaret because as Helen was talking you were sort of licking your lips with
04:43excitement
04:43because I haven't decided yet she hasn't told me Margaret but we're still in the process but I well as
04:51the sort of blueprint is she's she's funny she's sort of quite strong but she gets into a state she
04:59is in love with her husband but he won't go into the story he's been banished mostly by the daughter
05:06so she's a single mother of two gorgeous girls
05:10and that she tells often tries to control and she's in the middle of of this wonderful confusion she's trying
05:18to keep it all together and get
05:21Tracy married but she doesn't want it married to that guy she really wants her married back to the one
05:27original one so there's quite a lot going on isn't
05:30though it's busy it's a busy music and then Freddie yourself you're in the middle plane well the role that
05:37was made famous by Frank Sinatra
05:39Frank who kidding nice one kidding but you know a bit of pressure but also a dream come true I
05:46mean a complete dream come true it actually is a dream come true because I wanted to be in a
05:49musical and a golden age musical like this since I was four years old I went and saw Guys and
05:54Dolls at the National Theatre when I was four and it blew my mind it changed my life so actually
05:58being on stage doing it and being in a number that you're going to see later has always been I've
06:04just always been going to the theatre since I was a boy going I just want to be on stage
06:08doing that
06:09number with them and now I am so I am so I'm completely living the dream living the dream exactly
06:14yeah and Felicity you're no different in a lot of ways because you only made your musical stage debut what
06:19about 2021 was the first time that you did a musical what was it that drew you to that at
06:25that time well certainly that drew me to it at that time was we were in COVID and it was
06:30coming out of COVID
06:31and it was most wonderfully wonderfully exhilarating and hopeful experience to be opening a show with such an amazing anything
06:42goes and with the hope and this all these cracker people on a ship going going from New York and
06:49it just seemed such a beautiful thing to be part of so that's why I decided to do that then
06:55and it was it was incredible but this is going to be even more incredible
07:00and this is the thing with musicals I don't know whether you're familiar Tom but it's you know who wants
07:04to be a millionaire let's do it so people will think they don't know and then they will know and
07:10the brilliant thing is this production is going all over the UK Helen isn't it yes we're doing a regional
07:14tour and we were saying the other day it's so important that we take you know strong theatre shows out
07:19into the regions as well because you know it's very expensive coming to London we completely appreciate that for families
07:24and we're doing some fantastic venues the first ones are High Wycombe Southend and Cardiff which we're very excited about
07:30so no we're really it's it's really important that we take these shows out from the West End
07:35so everybody can see it yeah for sure now Freddie you have brought us some phenomenal performances in Slow Horses
07:41House of the Dragon now when it comes to your character choices you've played some you know not the sweetest
07:47of people
07:47I think it's silly a very sour little salty extra ish canョian as a historical jazz has must feel so
07:54different is it is it a release is it is it absolutely yeah articles release and also only to be
08:00on stage where you can express yourself in
08:02the biggest most larger than life way rather than you know containing it within you know a frame for a
08:07camera oh it's in absolute dream com true and lovely as ever just to be able to you know try
08:13a little bit of everything
08:14you know life is about variety right so that's freddy has the most fun that he will hate me saying
08:18this but he has the most beautiful voice and it will be such a surprise i think for everybody to
08:21see him in this way but it's so different from anything he's done before but there's this moment
08:25in the peaceful you'll see outside where we just look at each other and there's just sheer joy that
08:29we're doing this amazing it's like beaming we're so excited coming from her you wait till you hear
08:35her voice later i can't wait to see this but tom of course there's a connection between yourself
08:46and felicity because we can't not talk about you know the good life rosemary and time and rosemary
08:51and time has played a big part in your career i don't know if it's a big part but i
08:56was i was
08:57actually if my first acting job was an extra there you are rosemary and time i was drinking in a
09:02pub
09:03and uh they came down and sort of said if anyone wants some beer tokens we're looking for people
09:07to be just in the background yeah they paid us in beer i think no i think it was and
09:13uh yeah i
09:14remember i met felicity she was very very sweet i had no intention at that point i was just doing
09:18it
09:18for um for a couple of drinks but um i didn't know where it would lead but um yeah it
09:23was that was my
09:24first ever yeah so i was an actor i was just in the back actually weirdly yeah it was the
09:27first time i'd
09:27ever seen anything like that put together and and been on a set so it's a very strange thing
09:32i don't know it probably kick-started me then whatever i've done since it's my fault then is it
09:37yeah no you i will say you were absolutely so lovely i remember just chatting to you very briefly
09:41and you're very very sweet you were very um yeah it was it sort of stuck with me and i
09:46think it's
09:46yeah it was the first thing first sort of yeah rung on a ladder that has led here so yeah
09:51very yeah
09:52tonight tonight's on the one
09:55sing a song sing a song
09:58you don't want that fred
10:00any spoilers for your revision get him in there uh well don't forget you can see high society at the

10:14and felicity as we said are about to leave the studio to join the rest of the cast to get
10:19ready for an
10:19exclusive performance they're literally about to run out fall in love at the end of the show soon

14:41oh my goodness we should sign up paul and sonia for next year's eurovision and maybe get tom
14:46involved as well i think yeah i'll be i'll be well up for that yeah i just know you've got
14:50a great
14:50singing voice and we must say absolutely huge luck to sam aka look mom no computer for tomorrow and
14:57the fabulous lavoire who was announced today as the uk's eurovision spokesperson that is inspired
15:03perfect she's gonna be fun you can watch the eurovision grand final tomorrow at eight o'clock
15:08on bbc one and i play it or listen to it on radio 2 and bbc sounds with sarah cox
15:12and rylan but time
15:13now to talk all things comedy because tom here is starring in a brand new film which sees rosamund pike
15:18and sasha baron cohen going head to head in the ultimate battle of the sexes yes it's called
15:24ladies first and follows a chauvinistic businessman played by sasha who after a bump to the head finds
15:29and finds himself in a parallel world where women including his long-suffering female colleagues have
15:35all the power sounds quite fun yes let's have a look can you tell us what happened though you on
15:41any
15:41medication the pill the pill the pill look after that pretty face all right what ruby get me an
15:48ice pack so i pick up your dry cleaning as well she's what are you doing in my office what
15:54are you
15:54talking about this is my office she's women are in charge here what it's a smile how do i get
16:01out of
16:02here you make a change she's got style she's got grace she's on me take me back
16:11oh now tom we both really enjoyed this we laughed out loud um so we saw there sasha's character his
16:18world's turned up turned upside down then you play the brother-in-law um so tell us how he fits
16:24into
16:24the story and a bit about his character so yeah he starts off so as the world flips out he
16:29starts off
16:29a bit of a couch potato i had to do a lot of sort of research into that as a
16:33part that's really
16:34pushing my yeah yeah a slob was a real yeah struggle for me um and then and there's a world
16:39flip up so
16:40he's basically down now like a house husband house sort of that he takes on the mantle of almost sort
16:45of
16:45yeah raising the kids uh and and it yeah it was quite an it's an incredible thing to do because
16:50you
16:50essentially play in two different characters um and it was really fun it was it as a as a i
16:56was there's
16:56originally a french version of this and and i sort of you sit and watch that and you're like oh
16:59well
17:00this could be a great thing to be involved in um and uh yeah and it was subtitles though yeah
17:05could you understand why i did an intense french course uh so now i speak fluent french
17:11oh yeah i don't do things by halves um i never have subtitles i'll just learn the language takes me
17:17eight years to see any film but it's worth it i mean as you mentioned i mean the whole premise
17:22of
17:22the film is so clever so you know uh sasha enters this world where everything splits upside down
17:27it's essentially a woman's world yeah so you know instead of like burger king you've got burger queen
17:32so the set designers clearly had a field day what was your favorite part to see i think the burger
17:36queen it was very is weird as well just because we were sort of in this little bubble of like
17:41the
17:41house so we didn't get to see a lot of the set pieces you heard about them and saw pictures
17:45of them
17:45but um i i we i think there's this incredible shopping trip that we go on where it's sort of
17:51i'm just getting excited about sort of making him this sort of like beautiful man so he can impress
17:56uh the sort of female uh matriarchy and so that was that stuff was great we we it was like
18:03i say
18:03it's a it's a hard thing to sort of sit here and explain without seeing if it was i i
18:08think it's a
18:09really important piece i think it's a really interesting piece i think when i think the director tia
18:13sharif is one of most outstanding people i've ever worked with she's phenomenal like yeah her
18:18vision for the whole thing it was just paramount and you sort of fell in when you've got a great
18:23director like that you just fall into their world really uh and she just created it and there's some
18:27stuff um that was really really fun that i don't think made the final edit there was like a nightclub
18:32scene which was amazing um and it yeah it was very interesting as you do it as you're becoming a
18:37part of
18:37it and like seeing the difference of like uh how just just your body language and stuff as a as
18:44a man
18:45or you know emily mortimer played my wife and then yeah she's incredible i mean and yeah rosamund pike
18:51is just my word i like from the very first moment uh at the read through um like it sounds
18:58but i've
18:59never been so much in awe of someone i like she i was starstruck and then she just started doing
19:05the
19:05read through and i was like wow you're you're almost in the presence of greatness and just
19:09improvising or doing anything you're doing with rosamund she's just yeah she's a phenomenal variety
19:15isn't it yes just saying she's here so often yeah talking about all sorts of different things you
19:21know her talent knows no bounds no and and also just what a lovely person to be around i was
19:26very
19:26fortunate i did a couple of things with her last year and on both of them she was just a
19:30joy and she's
19:30just a real laugh as well you can have great banter we're going to quickly mention your stand-up tour
19:34because last time you came on tom you were like look i've got the title but i haven't written any
19:39of
19:39it yeah five months in are we are we ahead the title's a real wild card nothing to do with
19:46any
19:46of the show at all i could have called it anything i should have just called it my guy um
19:50which would
19:51have been better um but it's been a joy people of high wickham uh really need you to turn out
19:55everywhere else so well high wickham is i don't know what i've done to i think i have food
19:59poison last time i was there but um high wickham is yeah i need to sell some high wickham tickets
20:04there you go yeah i'm actually watching i'm considering going door to door in high wickham
20:08just going do you know i'm here yeah yeah you remember like zenith windows back in the day
20:15selling my tour tickets uh paper versions it's been a joy i love it it's my favorite thing to do
20:20stand up i i yeah it's a it's a real great thing and i think the show has got a
20:25bit of an important
20:26message to it which is the thing that i've worked towards so yeah hopefully hopefully you can both
20:30come to high wickham is on throughout the year and you can watch ladies first on netflix from
20:38next friday and of course this brilliant series king gary is available to watch on bbc iplayer
20:42now in just a moment the cast of the fabulous high society the musical are going to be taking us
20:47into
20:47the weekend with an exclusive performance of let's do it let's fall in love but first this sunday
20:52churches across the uk will be coming together to put on a special performance of their own
20:57so it's all part of bell sunday and this year it's set to be a real occasion and it's even
21:02caught the
21:02attention of a musician who's worked with everyone from pink floyd to madonna and mina shannon went to
21:07find out more bell sunday is a celebration of the tradition in the community but with the central council
21:16of church bell ringers on a mission to attract 10 000 more active ringers by 2030 this sunday one group
21:24in somerset is planning to ring 245 bells over 44 towers across one day joe weller is coordinating the
21:34challenge across somerset joe it sounds like you're taking bell sunday to a whole new level we're attempting
21:41to ring all 245 bells within the day and in the past we've mostly focused on our own church so
21:47we
21:47thought it was time to pull lots of the ringers and towers together to make a much bigger noise
21:51for bells in our communities the ambition is to help promote bell ringing to a new audience the aim is
21:58to recruit 10 000 new ringers with half of those being under the age of 50. how are you going
22:03to
22:03achieve it so we're reaching out to schools and getting more involved with the local community there
22:08is a misconception that you have to be religious to attend but that's not the case of bell ringing
22:14in east sussex one new recruit is better known for iconic performances like this one of the classic
22:20hit money in new york back in 1988 but now former pink floyd bassist guy pratt has swapped playing sold
22:30out arenas for his local church what made you fall in love with bell ringing it's musical for a start
22:37like the oldest bell here is from 1390 when you're ringing it it's like you're communing with a 600
22:43year old person also you're spreading the good news and you're finished you know that lovely thing yeah
22:48there's a wedding or anything and you got the bells going it's amazing yeah i can't ring unaccompanied
22:53right as of yeah that's the day i'm waiting for if they need training wheels off so guy you did
22:59play
22:59on the division bell album yeah when you were in pink floyd there's a song high hopes which starts
23:05with a church bell and in fact david gilmore had a bell made to take out on tour we've got
23:11bell sunday
23:12this weekend how are you feeling about about the day we need new people and that's hopefully what
23:17bell sunday is going to do it's so important to keep these things alive today pupils in seven oaks aren't
23:24learning the recorder or ukulele but are being taught how to ring the bells so reach up nice and
23:29comfortably high and pull and chime it i think we're really lucky because not a lot of people
23:38borrowing whenever we have services which we're doing here we're allowed to ring sometimes the
23:43christmas easter and the leavers service lovely right so one hole pulling rounds and stand
23:50the previous head wanted to get the children learning to ring for the queen's platinum jubilee
23:56so we started the ball rolling it's very very rewarding seeing them making progress jen's lessons
24:03have inspired the children to ring outside of school i'm gonna be honest i was a bit skeptical of it
24:08i thought oh bearing that's boring but you know i gave it a go and i was surprised i was

24:24to
24:24school here and she got me into bell running and i just enjoyed it really ever since bell sunday is
24:32set to be one of the biggest moments in the bell ringing calendar among those taking part is the
24:38west room kinders ringing group at saint mary's church in kent
24:48bell sunday is like quite important because it brings like churches all over like places all
24:54together just to ring at the same time i've only been ringing for about 40 years oh when you said
25:00only i thought you're going to say four months no no no there are people in the tower that have
25:05been
25:05ringing longer than me they're just not as old this sunday ringing groups are coming together not
25:12just to celebrate the past but to open up the doors to the future and hopefully inspire a new
25:17generation to take up the ropes lovely oh big up mina thank you so very much for that and thank
