Shadow Scottish Secretary Andrew Bowie said politicians should focus on making Brexit work rather than reopening divisions over EU membership, arguing Labour should concentrate on improving the UK's position outside the European Union. It comes after Wes Streeting suggested the UK could re-join the EU as he announced his plans to contest the Labour leadership.

00:00We had a referendum on this 10 years ago. The people voted to leave the EU and it's incumbent
00:05on every party to not only carry out the wishes of the people as expressed in that referendum but
00:10also get on and deliver our future outside the referendum. We spend far too long in this country
00:16fighting the battles of the past. That's what Labour are doing whilst we in the Conservatives
00:20are trying to focus on the future. There is so much that we can do outside of the European Union
00:25and that's what we should be doing right now, focusing on the powers that we have at a UK level
00:29and at levels in devolved governments and cities across the UK to improve the lives of people in
00:34this country instead of focusing on this division and distraction which another referendum on EU
00:41membership would obviously bring.
