00:07in a shark attack while spearfishing off the island yesterday morning.

00:23Perhaps not surprisingly the waters behind me here at Geordie Bay are very quiet.
00:28With the Rottenest Island community and visitors here still in shock after yesterday's tragedy.
00:33It's just the second fatal shark attack here at Rottenest Island and the last one was almost 15 years ago.
00:40So not the news anyone expects to hear when they're spending time here at Rottenest.
00:45The man was attacked about a kilometre offshore at Horseshoe Reef and while some are now understandably apprehensive about going
00:53in the water.
00:53We have spoken to some other people who say they won't be letting yesterday's tragedy deter them from going in.
01:01I'll definitely go in the water, absolutely.
01:04I mean every time you go in the water there's going to be some form of sea animal or shark
01:09or you're just kind of wary of where you'd go and what kind of thing.
01:13But no, it won't stop me.
01:16There's a lot of other things that I could do where there's dangers and risks and stuff that you're talking
01:23to the wrong person because I'll do it anyway.
01:27Blake, the 38 year old man had been spearfishing with friends yesterday when tragedy struck.
01:35Yeah, so police say this was a man who had experience with spearfishing and he was with a group of
01:40three friends on Saturday morning who witnessed the horrific attack.
01:45Now the victim was on the surface of the water and about 20 metres from his boat when he was
01:51bitten on the lower legs.
01:52He was brought to shore here and paramedics and police attempted to perform CPR but they were unable to save
01:59him as horrified tourists watched on, leaving the Rottnest Island community here in shock.
