00:00This little brick is causing a lot of controversy.
00:02But before you jump to any conclusions,
00:04give me a chance to explain how the LEGO Smart Brick actually works.
00:08LEGO packed a ton of tech into this 2x4.
00:12Not only is there silicon, the smarts, but there's all sorts of sensors.
00:16We have motion, we have lights, we have even a microphone that detects pressure.
00:21But alone, this thing is actually kind of useless.
00:24You're going to need some other new LEGO pieces to make the magic happen.
00:27And I think the best way to demonstrate it is using one of the actual LEGO Smart Playsets
00:32that's launching on March 1st.
00:34Recognize Palpatine's Throne Room?
00:35In this LEGO Smart Playset, you're going to get a selection of Smart Tags.
00:40Have a lightsaber Smart Tag here behind Luke, another one behind Darth Vader,
00:45and I'll turn around Palpatine's Throne, and you can see one that's a chair.
00:50The RFID Smart Tag is what tells the Smart Bricks chip what to do.
00:55So if I put this brick on top of a lightsaber Smart Tag, this brick is essentially now a lightsaber.
01:03But who is controlling the lightsaber?
01:06What color should the brick be?
01:08What sounds should it make?
01:10Introducing the Smart Minifigure.
01:12This symbol on the back differentiates a Smart Minifigure from, you know, your average Minifigure.
01:17Information from the Smart Minifigure changes how the Smart Bricks react to the Smart Tag.
01:22The Minifigure almost takes precedent.
01:24That is what the Smart Brick and Smart Tag are looking for to really bring out the personality in play.
01:30We have another lightsaber Smart Tag there, but because it's now closer to Darth Vader,
01:38we get a red lightsaber, complete with my favorite whooshing lightsaber sounds.
01:45I'll show you one other example.
01:47Here we have the Smart Play X-Wing set.
01:50That is an X-Wing Smart Tag.
01:52So if I put a Smart Brick on top of the X-Wing Smart Tag, the Smart Brick is now
01:57an X-Wing.
01:58So the brick is giving us all the motion and the lights, but again, it's that tag that's telling it
02:03what to do.
02:03So you could put that tag on something that is not an X-Wing, and it will still give the
02:09lights and motion of an X-Wing.
02:11So lots of creative options there.
02:13Even on this table right here, there is maybe a dozen Smart Tags.
02:16It's the chip inside of the Smart Brick that's deciding what should get priority based on proximity.
02:21So just this one Smart Brick could be a lightsaber, be an X-Wing, be a TIE Fighter.
02:27And it could do so for about 40 minutes of active playtime.
02:31A little sound effect will tell you when it's time to charge,
02:33and then we're going to drop our brick right here on the wireless charging pad,
02:37let it juice up so that it's ready for more play.
02:39I have seen your comments, and I think a lot of your questions and concerns about Smart Play and the
02:44Smart Brick are valid.
02:45I do think it kind of is a case of needing to play with it to understand,
02:49and maybe being a little bit more willing to exercise your creativity.
02:53Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions about the Lego Smart Brick.
02:57Now get out of here. I have a lightsaber battle to get back to.
