00:02The Supreme Court is keeping the abortion pill Mifepristone available by mail, at least for now.
00:09In a brief order Thursday, the court blocked a lower court ruling that would have required
00:13patients to get the drug through in-person visits instead of telehealth appointments
00:18and mail delivery. The decision keeps the current system in place while the legal fight continues
00:23in lower courts. The case started after Louisiana sued the FDA over Biden-era rules that expanded
00:30access to Mifepristone by mail. The state argues the policy undercuts its strict abortion ban and
00:37puts women at risk. Abortion rights groups and drug makers say restricting access would create
00:42nationwide disruption for patients and providers. The court did not explain its decision. Justices
00:49Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented, Alito called the order, quote, remarkable and accused
00:55the majority of allowing states to circumvent the court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
01:00The issue is expected to return to the Supreme Court again.
