00:17 By overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, Justice Samuel Alito and his colleagues left

00:24 an uneven landscape of reproductive rights across the country.

00:28 Fourteen states lost no time in banning abortion from conception.

00:32 The likes of Texas, going so far as to criminalise the procedure. Anyone performing an abortion

00:37 faces a six-figure fine and 99 years in prison.

00:41 Georgia and South Carolina have implemented bans after six weeks of pregnancy, a stage

00:46 at which many women do not yet know they are pregnant, while Nebraska and North Carolina

00:52 prohibit terminations after 12 weeks.

00:55 Most of these bans make no exception for victims of rape or incest. Other states set the limit

01:01 at 15 or 18 weeks.

01:03 Meanwhile, 25 states have kept abortion legal. And the numbers of women crossing state lines

01:08 for abortion care doubled between 2020 and 2023.

01:12 In states like Montana, Iowa and Wisconsin, bans and restrictions have been passed but

01:18 are so far blocked from taking effect.
