00:02We are seeing a very extensive cloud and rain extending all the way from northern WA through Alice Springs and
00:08Uluru and really particularly falling across parts of South Australia. This is where the rain is really needed. So overnight
00:14we did see some pretty high rainfall totals all the way from Kangaroo Island through the Air Peninsula up into
00:19northern parts of the state between 15 to 30 millimetres and in some locations it's the highest daily rainfall since
00:25the end of 2023.
00:27So places like Port Lincoln, Cleve, Kimba all the way up towards Roxby Downs and we have also seen some
00:32new May records being set and even further east Adelaide has picked up a very useful 5 to 10 millimetres
00:38which would be great news for the gardens there and we're now seeing rainfall building across western New South Wales
00:42and western Victoria and there is more rainfall to come today through South Australia.
00:46We could see even severe thunderstorms north about Port Pirie which could bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds and large hail
00:51and if you are Adelaide keep an eye out for more rain and thunderstorms through the day today but certainly
00:56very welcome rainfall through that part of the country.
00:59Yeah welcome in particular for farmers experiencing drought in some of those areas. Will this make much of a difference?
01:08So certainly the rainfall across the south east is very timely. A lot of these growers would have put their
01:14crops in around the Anzac Day weekend and so this rainfall will really help to soak into the ground and
01:19kick off the growing season across South Australia and also across parts of Victoria and New South Wales today.
01:24So these areas did see very low rainfall totals all the way through autumn and so we are expecting another
01:30sort of 10 to 20 millimetres across much of the southern cropping areas.
01:33So tomorrow the rain will push into central Victoria as well as the Viverina and New South Wales and then
01:38for New South Wales the eastern and sort of northeastern parts any area sort of north about Dubbo has been
01:43really crying out for rain and we are seeing the lowest autumn rainfall on record for areas north about Tamworth.
01:48So the good news is that we are expecting the rainfall to build across that part of the country on
01:53Monday and Tuesday. Still a bit of variation how much rainfall we are expecting but at this stage you could
01:57see a very late autumn break sort of 10 to 30 millimetres is expected so certainly very timely for those
02:03who have put in crops in the last few weeks so certainly hoping that the rain helps fill the dams.
02:08Yeah absolutely. Anything else you're keeping an eye on this weekend Jonathan?
02:13So this morning we are seeing very thick fog across the Sydney area and much New South Wales so wanting
02:18people to take care and we will see plenty of showers across Sydney and the east coast of the day
02:21today all the way up towards Brisbane.
02:23For Melbourne and also for Hobart it is the last warm day of this extended settled period so certainly enjoy
02:29that where you can before the rain sets in and we are expecting a fairly settled weekend for the rest
02:33of the country so really hoping the rain falls where it's really needed this weekend.
02:37Well said. Jonathan Howell, great to speak to you. Thank you.
