00:02Cattle trucks are being loaded up more than usual at Mandara for this time of year.
00:08The plant family's herd has been more than halved and most of those sales weren't planned.
00:16In the last three months we've sold, I think it was about 640 cattle.
00:21And of that, 70% would be forced sales for cattle that we weren't planning to sell.
00:27With just 50mm of rain this year, paddocks are running out of feed.
00:32In two months time, with our current cattle numbers, we may sell a few more.
00:37Yeah, we'd be down to pretty much bad dirt.
00:39The pressure is showing at the sale yards.
00:43Starting to see a few runs of pretty framey light cows.
00:47Prices have fallen by about $300 per head since November because of the lack of rain.
00:53We didn't get a single fall here in Dalby and April.
00:56And so a lot of people are just getting a little bit worried about winter.
00:59Queensland's primary industries minister says the government is closely monitoring the conditions.
01:05Hopefully there is significant rainfall this month.
01:08But if it's not, then there's likely to be recommendations from those local drought committees
01:14that there could be drought declarations.
01:17For families like the plants, a formal drought declaration which would unlock freight subsidies
01:22and financial relief can't come soon enough.
