Drought is spreading across New South Wales, with almost half the state now impacted. Government assistance has been ramped up to help farmers manage the dry conditions.

00:04A hot summer and the unrelenting task of carting water for livestock.
00:08We don't have much of other choice, either keep the sheep alive or sell them.
00:15Nearly half the state is now drought affected, with the south and west hit hardest.
00:21Whilst they've been through it before, they are prepared and they've done as much as they
00:24can.
00:24However, if it goes on much longer, it's going to start to impact towns, communities
00:29and the city folk as well.
00:31There's less water for irrigation too.
00:34Cotton and rice production in the south has been halved.
00:37That will have an impact on local businesses, the cotton gins, the resellers, the companies
00:44where we buy our seed, buy our chemical and that sort of thing.

00:52Extraordinary heat, it's a big challenge, cows are really feeling it.
00:57There's little relief forecast for autumn.
01:00We're likely to see less rainfall than we would normally see at this time of year.
01:03The New South Wales Government has extended its drought support measures.
01:07It's increased the cap on loans for drought resilience projects to half a million dollars.
01:13Smaller loans to help with cash flow will also be available.
01:16I suppose, just got to hope that it will rain one day and it's all worth it I guess.
