00:00Another shocking incident of anti-Semitism on one of our country's college campuses.
00:04A swastika flag was hoisted above a New York University building named in honor of a
00:10billionaire philanthropist who has donated to Jewish causes. The flag, which also included
00:16the letters NYU and the Star of David, was spotted by parents and students during the university's
00:22annual Grad Alley Block Party, celebrating this year's graduating class. The flag was hoisted
00:28above the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development,
00:33is named after philanthropists Michael and Judy Steinhardt. Michael, who grew up in a Jewish home,
00:38is also the founder of the Birthright Israel Program, which provides free 10-day heritage
00:44trips to Israel for young Jewish adults. He was on NYU's Board of Trustees for 27 years before he
00:50resigned in 2022 amid backlash over his antique scandal, which saw him surrender 180 looted
00:58antiques worth $70 million. In 2021, student government leaders called on university bosses
01:04to remove Steinhardt's name from the building over that case. An NYU spokesperson said the school was
01:10shocked and deeply troubled about the incident and confirmed that campus security removed it
01:15immediately after it was ported. The New York Police Department is working with the school to identify
01:20whoever is responsible.
