00:03Four sets of holiday hosts.
00:05Feels nice and comfy to me.
00:07Check in to each other's places.
00:09Hi, good morning.
00:10Good morning.
00:11And get to grips with one another.
00:13The moral of the story is do lock your rooms.
00:16We're leaving our door open.
00:18I'll be there, Carl.
00:20I'll be there.
00:22Today, the group take the bait.
00:24No, no, no, you've got to keep the bait in the water.
00:26I can't see it.
00:27Oh, look, they're coming out.
00:28Yeah, you've got it.
00:29She's got one.
00:30As they battle.
00:31As long as everyone takes the feedback the way it should be delivered,
00:35I think everyone should be fine.
00:36I think there may be a few fireworks.
00:38To be named Best Value for Money.
00:40A five.
00:42Wow, wow, wow.
00:51The final visit of the week is to Gunthorpe in Nottinghamshire
00:55and Peacock Lake,
00:56owned by couple Helen Robertson and Carl Gibbs and where it takes two to tango.
01:02I would definitely be 100% lost without Helen.
01:06Yeah.
01:06Why?
01:07I've no good on computers.
01:08I wouldn't know who was coming, when I was leaving, what the name was.
01:11I'd just open the gate and just hope people turned up.
01:15Guests can enjoy some alone time in one of six self-catered glamping pods for up to £170 a night,
01:22based on a two-night minimum, where these hosts hope they tick all the right boxes.
01:27We strive to provide everything for our guests to have an enjoyable stay.
01:33They've got a hot tub, games room.
01:35Games room.
01:36The area outside, you know, it's a tranquil area, sighted on a fishing lake.
01:41And this pair hope to hook their guests in, by not letting standards slip through the net.
01:46We do constantly check around after the cleaners have been, so I'm confident for a 10 of all the guests.
01:55About to arrive are today's first guests.
01:58How do you coax a bear out of the woods?
02:01I don't know. How do you coax a bear out of the woods?
02:04With camembert.
02:08Cheesetastic are couple Fiona and Michael Farrow of the Three Horseshoes in Warram, Norfolk.
02:14When they're hosted at the start of the week...
02:16Hi.
02:17Hello.
02:17Good morning.
02:18Helen and Carl...
02:20Wow.
02:21I think this bag's a character.
02:22...didn't give cleanliness a high five.
02:25Bit much, that is, isn't it?
02:27It's like a handprint.
02:28This is from one wipe.
02:30This is basic cleanliness.
02:32And come feedback...
02:33How clean was the three horseshoes?
02:35Their score...
02:36The three.
02:37...wiped out the hosts.
02:38Oh, my God, that's really low.
02:40So, today, Fiona and Michael desire to be dazzled.
02:45I'm expecting Helen and Carl to be very, very clean and exceptionally well finished.
02:51Oh, I think it's going to be absolutely immaculate.
02:54Yeah.
02:58Oh, isn't this lovely?
03:00Definitely.
03:01Very well presented, as I'd expect from Carl and Helen.
03:03Yeah, absolutely.
03:04Good morning.
03:05Good morning.
03:06Good morning, both, and welcome to Peacock Lake Glamping.
03:09You'll be staying in our Kingfisher pod, which is £160 a night, based on a minimum two-night stay.
03:17Your pod is self-catering, and we hope that you enjoy your stay with us.
03:25This is lovely.
03:26Very nice, very cosy.
03:28Yeah, really nice.
03:29With Fiona and Michael snuggling in, today's next guests are going potty.
03:35If you were a plant, what plant would you be?
03:38I think I'd be a peony.
03:40A peony's wild.
03:43Blossoming, our friends and colleagues Barbara Cushing and Elizabeth Good of Holly Lodge Bed
03:49and Breakfast in Thursford, Norfolk.
03:51When they hosted last time...
03:53Good morning.
03:54Good morning.
03:54Good morning.
03:56Helen and Carl's shepherd's hut failed to pull the wool over their eyes.
04:00You can see the dust down here.
04:02You just need to get a vacuum underneath.
04:04Oh, there's a hair in the fridge.
04:06Have a look.
04:07So, come feedback...
04:08How clean was Holly Lodge Bed and Breakfast?
04:11They left a shiner.
04:13Seven.
04:13I agree.
04:14That is a disappointment.
04:15I can't deny it.
04:16That is disappointing.
04:17So, today, Barbara and Elizabeth will be shining a light on the place.
04:22Their attention to detail has actually been sort of almost minute.
04:26So, is that going to influence your evaluation of their...
04:31Yes, it really is.
04:32You've wound me up, Elizabeth, quite frankly.
04:36Good morning, Helen.
04:38Good morning, Carl.
04:39Good morning to you both.
04:40And welcome to Peacock Lake.
04:41You're going to be staying in our turns pod, which has an artly right of £170.
04:47And enjoy.
04:48Thank you very much.
04:51Wow, wow, wow.
04:53Looks long.
04:54It's like a TARDIS on a lake.
04:57With Barbara and Elizabeth feeling regenerated, today's final guests are conversing about coiffures.
05:04What about your hairstyles?
05:06Have you had any crazy ones?
05:08I've had some shockers.
05:09I had a completely shaved head, with the exception of the front bit, and I used to spike that up.
05:16Oh, God.
05:17That was me.
05:19Keeping trim, our colleagues Carl Webb and Liz Houlihan, of the Red House in Longstow, Cambridgeshire.
05:26On the last visit over breakfast, Helen and Carl's critique was on the menu.
05:32We know that you're thorough with your checks, so I'm assuming you probably check on your cleaner's work.
05:37Maybe, well, I've gone through quite a lot of housekeepers.
05:41Well, we've had to lay off ours.
05:42Us too.
05:45So, today, Carl will have his eyes peeled.
05:49I'm going to be checking everything today with a fine tooth comb, because the standards have got to match the
05:55critiques that they've been giving others.
05:59Hello, lovely to see you again.
06:01Good morning.
06:02Welcome to Peacock Lake Glamping.
06:03You're going to be staying in our swamp pod.
06:05Your pod is £170 a night, so thank you for coming, and enjoy.
06:15It's actually quite bright, isn't it?
06:17I do like the sofa.
06:18That is nice.
06:20With the hosts out of the way, the guests can lap up Peacock Lake.
06:25What do you think, Barbara?
06:26Smells very clean.
06:28I just feel the plastic plants.
06:30Should be more natural foliage.
06:33The hob's spotlessly clean, isn't it?
06:35Let's have a look at the oven.
06:36It's really clean.
06:37Oh, perfect.
06:38Look at that.
06:39This is all really nice and clean.
06:40As a chef, I really appreciate that.
06:42Oh, there's a bed here.
06:46There's hair here.
06:47The crumbs.
06:48Oh, hold on.
06:49It looks a bit like rice.
06:51Look at this.
06:52Oh, don't, don't.
06:53That's not just one, is it?
06:55That's loads of it.
06:56Oh, dear.
06:57That needs a bit of a tidy up, doesn't it?
06:59It needs a folder or something to put it all together.
07:01Yeah.
07:01There's a couple of marks, which is a shame because it makes these feel a bit worn.
07:07That freezer compartment is totally over-iced.
07:11You've got to defrost.
07:13Oh, my goodness.
07:14The old ice cubes are left.
07:16Don't put that in your drink.
07:18No.
07:18Because you might be ill.
07:20Oh, this is really lovely.
07:23Very much Swedish lodge.
07:25Yeah.
07:26Look, I mean, I don't understand that.
07:29Why would you miss that?
07:32How warm is it?
07:34Oh, it is nice and warm.
07:36My only concern is obviously people being able to overhear when you're in the hot tub.
07:41Yeah, because they're all quite close to each other, aren't they?
07:43I don't know what these are.
07:45These are scent bags.
07:46Look at that.
07:47It's had its day.
07:48That one shouldn't be here.
07:50That's how it should be looking.
07:53That doesn't look right.
07:54No.
07:55Looks like someone's poured a coffee in it.
07:57Let's have a little smell.
07:59Puff.
08:00Puff, Elizabeth, smell.
08:01It hasn't been washed.
08:03No.
08:04Oh, my God.
08:05What is in there?
08:07I think it's tissue.
08:08That definitely shouldn't be in there.
08:10Room inspections almost over.
08:12Barbara's hands on.
08:13This pristine loo is exactly what we've expected from Helen.
08:19Yeah, I agree.
08:20Michael's clinging on.
08:22Beam me up, Scotty.
08:25And for Carl and Liz, there's a game changer.
08:29Oh, look.
08:30Look, you have got dust.
08:33Yes!
08:37Queen Boudicca allegedly defeated the Roman Ninth Legion near Gunthorpe in the first century A.D.
08:44And today, hosts Helen and Carl hope to be a force to be reckoned with by treating their guests to
08:51an afternoon on their on-site fishing lake.
09:04Peacock Lake was formed when gravel was dug to build a nearby bridge in 1875, and has been popular with
09:11anglers for the past three decades.
09:14This is the bait, what we're going to attract them with.
09:17And today, Carl's showing the group how it's done.
09:20As you can see there, them fish are starting to feed.
09:24A simple swing.
09:25That bridge should be sitting perfect on the water.
09:28So, he's on.
09:29Can you tell the fish is on?
09:31Yeah.
09:31It's bending at the end.
09:33I'm just going to release a bit of line.
09:34It's that one there.
09:36Oh.
09:36It's a barbless hook.
09:38It's pain-free.
09:38And there he is.
09:39A perfect fish hook.
09:41Oh, what a beauty.
09:42Helen and Carl have been great so far, haven't they?
09:44They've been really good hosts.
09:45It's been really nice seeing Carl in his element.
09:48He loves fishing.
09:48He does love fishing.
09:50Now it's the guests' turn to cast out, starting with Michael and Carl.
09:55Just swing it out there.
09:57Nice and easy.
09:59Perfect.
10:00Oh, look, someone's coming for it.
10:01He's coming, he's coming.
10:02Oh.
10:04And it's Chef Michael, who's quick to catch a bite.
10:07So, as you can see, he's winding away there.
10:09He's obviously got a fish.
10:10Oh, look at it.
10:10You can see.
10:11You lift him up straight into the net.
10:13Oh, wow.
10:14No problem at all.
10:15And there he is.
10:17Wow.
10:17I would say probably two and a half pound.
10:19Really enjoying fishing today.
10:21I know some carp fishermen that would absolutely love to come here.
10:25And I'm pretty sure their partners would love the hot tubs.
10:29Next, it's Barbara and Elizabeth let loose on the lake.
10:33Keep the line out of the water.
10:34What do you mean out of the water?
10:35No, no, no.
10:35You've got to keep the bait in the water.
10:36I can't see it.
10:37We're going to catch a bird if you don't.
10:39I can't see it.
10:41Oh, look, they're coming out.
10:42Yeah, you've got it.
10:43She's got one.
10:44I've got one, Carl.
10:46Oh, no.
10:47But when it comes to feedback, it seems for Barbara and Elizabeth, there's no squidding around.
10:53The seven is still on my mind.
10:56I think there's some things that will definitely come out on Bayman Day.
11:00Perfect.
11:01Oh, it's a lively one.
11:02Well done, Barbara.
11:03Well done, Barbara.
11:05Being back around Barbara and Elizabeth, just like the same as it was before they got our feedback.
11:10So like I thought would happen, they've taken it professionally.
11:14You've got him.
11:15You've got him.
11:16And with Elizabeth landing the catch of the day.
11:19Yes.
11:22Liz, you caught jaws.
11:24Helen and Carl hope their guests are hook, line and sinker.
11:28Really good, Dad.
11:29Really enjoyed it.
11:30Just hope we don't get no fishy feedback.
11:38The final visit of the week is to Gunthorpe in Nottinghamshire and Peacock Lake, where hosts
11:44Helen and Carl have invited their guests for a drink in the on-site games room.
11:49Cheers, everybody.
11:50Cheers.
11:51Cheers.
11:52Cheers.
11:52Cheers.
11:53With glasses raised, Elizabeth susses the set-up.
11:56How long have you actually been here?
11:5825 years.
12:00So we started just with the fishing lake, and then someone just mentioned glamping to me
12:05while he was getting his fishing tackle out.
12:06And he says, I think you might be in a good spot here.
12:08So I just phoned the planners and told Helen what's putting planning in.
12:13It sounds as if once you get an idea in your head, that's it.
12:18Yeah.
12:19When we decided to move, we had a fish and chip restaurant, and we sold it within a day to
12:26come here.
12:27Helen called me in the door, I said, I've sold the fish shop.
12:29She said, I bet you have, yeah?
12:32Helen and Carl, we get on really well with them, and I could see having many a fun night out
12:37with them.
12:37Fun night, yeah, definitely.
12:38Knocking back a few bevvies.
12:39Yeah.
12:40Hosts are hit.
12:42Michael wants to go back to day one.
12:44What was your first impressions of everybody?
12:46Oh, I couldn't say about everybody, but certainly I had first impressions of Barbara,
12:52and that she was very posh, and I thought I was going to have to up my game with my
12:56common accent.
12:57Oh, Carl, you had no worries with me.
13:01I very quickly realised you were Brummies.
13:03I don't like my accent.
13:05Really?
13:06No.
13:07Barbara, what about you trying to do a Birmingham accent?
13:09I don't think I'm very good at that, really.
13:12Give it a go, give it a go.
13:14Well, I was just trying.
13:16LAUGHTER
13:20Everybody's got on so well, but there's some things that people are going to be held accountable for, and those
13:26need explaining.
13:27So this is the last time that we're all going to be in the room together before payment day, so
13:33how do you feel about that?
13:34So I feel we've judged everyone really fairly. I'm definitely looking forward to payment day.
13:41At the end of the day, we have to walk away with our heads held high as professional people. They're
13:47our businesses, our babies, and we're protective.
13:49As long as everyone takes, like, the feedback as the way it should be delivered, I think everyone should be
13:55fine.
13:56I think there may be a few fireworks.
13:58Well, I can guess who.
14:00I seriously think there are going to be some crackers going off there. It's going to be interesting.
14:05Drink's done. It's back to their pods and off to bed for the guests.
14:09You can have that.
14:10All right, I'll do the washing up. I'll see you in the morning.
14:12Yep, see you in the morning.
14:13Good night, my love.
14:14Good night.
14:18In Gunthorpe, the day is off to a banging start.
14:22Good morning, Princess. How did you sleep?
14:25It's been the cosiest sleep I've had for a long time. I'm really pleased.
14:29I found the bed really comfortable. I slept really well.
14:31I slept really well, too.
14:32Yeah.
14:33But Carl's out of hope for the soap.
14:36There's no shampoo or shower gel.
14:39I think there's some hand soap in there.
14:41I guess I'm using hand soap.
14:44Breakfast at Peacock Lake is a self-catering affair.
14:48All the facilities are there to cook whatever breakfast.
14:51Or if I fancy a nice walk down the river, there's a lovely little cafe, so I'm quite confident.
14:55And while Barbara and Elizabeth and Liz and Carl pop out for a takeaway, in their pod...
15:01What are we going to have for breakfast?
15:02Fiona and Michael are making use of the kitchen.
15:05Look at that, an air fryer.
15:07Air fryer.
15:07You wouldn't expect that.
15:08Plenty of utensils.
15:10Plenty of utensils.
15:10You don't always get those, do you?
15:11Definitely not.
15:12Nice four-slice toaster.
15:14It's very clean as well.
15:15It's very clean, yeah.
15:15The facilities were great, really nice.
15:18The kitchen is well-equipped and it had more than average equipment for self-catering
15:25for two.
15:25Yeah.
15:26As Michael cracks on...
15:28Love watching you work.
15:31The others are back with their brekkies and they all dig in.
15:36It's actually nice bacon.
15:37Oh, it's the same.
15:38Nice runny egg.
15:39But it's the surroundings on the menu.
15:43Lovely sitting out here, listening to the phantom and the birds.
15:46Really nice getting a bit of an alfresco breakfast.
15:48Alfresco, yes.
15:50It's not the best privacy.
15:51You can still hear the neighbours, so it makes you feel like you have to whisper a bit
15:55to not disturb them.
15:56Yeah.
15:57A lot of plastic around in a natural world here.
16:00Yeah.
16:00The grass, the flowery things around the whole tub.
16:04I'm not so keen on so much plastic.
16:08It's not rural enough for me and it's not rustic enough for me.
16:14Surroundings chewed over, the group digest the offering.
16:17There's loads of positives about the place.
16:20Tranquil, nice to see the ducks on the pond.
16:22There were a couple of cleanliness issues, but we had a great night's sleep.
16:27Absolutely.
16:28And a lovely time.
16:29I was expecting far more, really, on the cleanliness side.
16:34Oh, absolutely.
16:35That was disappointing.
16:36It's been lovely to see Helen and Carl again, but we were just led to expect meticulous, impeccable
16:44standards and unfortunately that wasn't the experience.
16:47That isn't what we discovered.
16:49Breakfast done.
16:50The guests pop into their pods to complete their anonymous feedback forms.
16:54How were your hosts at Peacock Lake?
16:57We're going to say friendly, definite 10.
17:00Yeah.
17:01How clean was Peacock Lake?
17:04Sofa bed does need a thorough clean.
17:06Floor needs a thorough clean.
17:08Floor needs a thorough clean.
17:09Floor does not smell fresh.
17:11The freezer compartment in the fridge.
17:13Okay, yeah.
17:14Needs defrosting, unhygienic.
17:16I do think it's a five.
17:17I think it's a five.
17:18A bit of dirty water in the toilet.
17:22Yeah.
17:22Marks on bedding.
17:25Spotless kitchen.
17:27I reckon seven seems fair.
17:29Yeah.
17:29Very clean kitchen.
17:32Messy drawer under TV.
17:35Tissue found in the toilet.
17:37And dust under sofa.
17:38Goes seven, yeah?
17:40Mm.
17:40How are the facilities?
17:42It's like a cosy TARDIS on a lake.
17:44But I don't like plastic plants.
17:48One air freshener bag was extremely manky.
17:52Mm-hmm.
17:52I think it's an eight.
17:54Eight's Elizabeth.
17:56Comfy sofa.
17:58I'd like to have had some soaps in the shower.
18:00Not private enough.
18:03Eight.
18:03Yeah.
18:04How did you sleep?
18:05Comfortable night's sleep.
18:06What score?
18:07Ten, I think.
18:08Ten.
18:09I had a perfect sleep, Elizabeth, and it's a ten.
18:14How was breakfast?
18:16The facilities were great.
18:17Excellent for catering.
18:20I think it's got to be a ten, hasn't it?
18:22Right, so the big question, would you stay here again?
18:25Most definitely.
18:27Yes.
18:28I don't think it's really for us, is it?
18:30No.
18:31It's a no from me too.
18:32It's a no, Elizabeth.
18:33I agree, it's a no, Barbara.
18:35It's a no.
18:38Now the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth.
18:42Are you happy with this, Barbara?
18:43I'm happy.
18:44The cash will be kept secret until the end of the competition.
18:47But for now, Helen and Carl can see if Peacock Lake's feedback will ruffle feathers.
18:53How were your hosts at Peacock Lake?
18:56Ten.
18:56Can't complain at that.
18:57Yeah, great.
18:59Friendly to people like us.
19:01Good news.
19:02How clean was Peacock Lake?
19:04A seven.
19:05Very clean kitchen.
19:07Good.
19:08Yeah, really good.
19:09Messy drawer under TV.
19:12That's got all the manuals in there and we're happy that they're in there.
19:16Tissue in toilet.
19:18I checked all these toilets.
19:20Dust under sofa.
19:21How much dust are we talking?
19:23It couldn't have been a lot.
19:25How were the facilities?
19:27An eight.
19:28Comfy sofa.
19:29Wood of light soaps in shower.
19:31It's not part of our package.
19:34Yeah.
19:34Not private enough.
19:36I dispute that, 100%.
19:38Thanks for having us.
19:39It's been great.
19:41Bye.
19:43Would you stay here again?
19:44No.
19:45I might have been expecting that.
19:47I was, yeah, definitely.
19:49Ready?
19:50Let's do it.
19:50How clean was Peacock Lake?
19:54The seven.
19:54Not ideal.
19:56Dirty toilet water.
19:57I checked them toilets myself.
19:59Marks on bedding.
20:01It is due to be replaced.
20:04Otherwise, spotless kitchen.
20:05I'm pleased with that.
20:07Yeah.
20:08How did you sleep?
20:09A ten.
20:10Yay.
20:11Comfortable night's sleep?
20:13That's really nice to know.
20:15How was breakfast?
20:16And we scored a ten.
20:18Oh, lovely.
20:19Facilities, excellent for self-catering.
20:22I'm really proud of that.
20:24Really proud.
20:25Thank you, guys.
20:26We've had a lovely stay.
20:27Bye.
20:28Do you think they'll come again?
20:30I hope so.
20:31Yes.
20:32Yes.
20:32That's what I like to hear.
20:34Great.
20:34Absolutely fantastic.
20:37And here we go.
20:40How clean was Peacock Lake?
20:42A five.
20:44Wow, wow, wow.
20:46Sofa bed needs a thorough clean.
20:48Well, the cleaners don't open.
20:50They don't open them.
20:50Clean them because they're never used.
20:51Floor needs a thorough clean.
20:54100% they don't need a thorough clean.
20:57Thro does not smell fresh.
21:00How should a thro smell?
21:02Freezer compartment needs defrosting, unhygienic.
21:07If it was completely blocked with something in it, it's unhygienic, but not a build-up of frost.
21:12So we don't agree with that one?
21:13No.
21:14How are the facilities?
21:15An eight.
21:16So...
21:17I thought it was a bit better than that, but let's see.
21:19Cozy Tardis on a lake.
21:21I agree with that.
21:22Do not like plastic plants.
21:25I couldn't have grown real plants up them hot tubs.
21:28I'll be dead by the time they grow.
21:29Oh, one air freshener bag.
21:32Very manky.
21:33Are they mouldy?
21:35We'll have a look.
21:37How did you sleep?
21:38Ten!
21:39Yay!
21:40We got them!
21:41Back on track.
21:42Perfect sleep.
21:43Yes!
21:44Thank you for having us.
21:47It's been great.
21:48Bye-bye.
21:49Would they come back again?
21:51No.
21:52No.
21:52I was expecting that.
21:53Yeah.
21:54It ruins your whole holiday if you don't like plastic grass.
21:57It all seems a bit tip for tap for me.
22:00100%.
22:00We gave that feedback to help them.
22:05Yeah.
22:05We've been penalised because of that feedback.
22:09Next time, the hosts face the final showdown.
22:12Oh, let's get some answers on ours then.
22:14As bills are paid...
22:16I stand by our price and I think it's great value, as our customers do.
22:20Scores are settled.
22:21We've applied scores based on a consistent approach and I don't feel this is consistent.
22:27And a winner announced.
22:29The winner is...
22:30There is absolutely no way that we've been playing a game.
22:34We've been playing a game.
22:45We've been playing a game.
