00:00been a minute since we checked in on our dogs i wanted to do a little
00:02off-season report with our buddy jeff centell of dog nation uh jeff uh have you ever had
00:10skyline chili is it good help me out i have not but i've been in a traveling party of people
00:20who
00:20did they tried to use it as a hangover cure and they failed miserably like 28 to 3 halftime lead
00:29failure that kind of bad wow well you know what unfortunately just from the visual just from google
00:36image searching it in the break jeff i i can't say i'm surprised by that outcome based on just what
00:42it looks like alone but i digress all right so a bunch of stuff to get into here let's start
00:48with
00:48the obvious another year under center for carson beck here in athens leading the way for the bulldogs
00:54is it fair to say that he should be regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the sec going
01:00into
01:00the season gunner stockton i think yeah because you've got to oh sorry i remember he's yeah you
01:09said carson but i totally understood where you're going with that i think like carson has been in
01:14college football since skyline chili was first uh developed there you go yep but um you know gunner
01:22has been a college football player since january of 2022 he has played and he started two college
01:31football playoff games he has been the guy at the end of the game in the victory formation for the
01:38back-to-back sec champions i think he probably needs to be regarded uh just for the simple fact of
01:45the reps and you gotta remember gunner was on those great loaded georgia teams trying to move the ball
01:53with the scout team offense against all those future nfl guys now is he top of the mountain i don't
02:00think
02:00so but is he should be regarded among the top 10 15 quarterbacks in college football i would say so
02:08i
02:08see there's a body of work especially chris when you look about how good he's done under pressure
02:15uh depletion percentage quarterback rating touchdowns the interception ratio all that's pretty sterling for
02:23him and then you gotta account for his legs where he's going to score about six or seven touchdowns a
02:28year in the red zone okay so what do you think the plan then is given that with the backfield
02:34is it
02:35going to be nate fraser chauncey bowens as a one-two punch or do you think they're going to have
02:39a whole stable of guys back there i think it's it's probably borderline stable right now and what i
02:46mean by that is chris they got a guy that they brought in and it's modern day college football
02:52his name is dante dowdell he's been at oregon he's been in nebraska he was the kentucky last year and
02:58had
02:58some really good film and he is a big back with some speed and when he puts his foot in
03:04the ground
03:05he can go a little bit so you add that to nate fraser chauncey bowens and then everybody loves
03:11to throw out the word sleeper well dwight phillips jr they call him peanut his dad was an olympian
03:18his dad was a gold medalist he has world class like 10.15 in the 100 meter speed and i
03:27think you're
03:27going to see a little bit more gadget stuff kind of like james cook stuff from about five or six
03:33playbooks
03:34ago from the dogs that they're going to use with dwight phillips offensive line looks like there
03:39should be if not all people who are who do not have that fr next to their name meaning an
03:46experienced
03:46bunch up front what type of damage do you think they can do with this running game and with the
03:52ability to protect gunner i think that's probably the litmus of the team if you had to look if you
03:59had
03:59to kind of boil it all together in a gumbo and say how does georgia play its best football well
04:05they're going to run the football and they're going to protect gunner stockton and chris i'll be honest
04:10that offensive line is going to be one of the top two or three in the sec at the minimum
04:16especially with
04:17all the returning guys drew bobo will be back one gaston and dontrell glover two guys that were good
04:23enough as freshmen last year to start in the sec and then you got to get excited about ernest green
04:29the third who's been in athens uh since 2022 as well at coming back at left tackle you you look
04:37at
04:37what they have up front they have the horses up front you put that together with the with the
04:43receiver group where there's a lot of second year players that are going to have to make a leap
04:49and you're going to that's really the recipe for explosive plays for georgia on offense and
04:56somehow chris i managed to go over an overview of the offensive firepower for georgia and didn't
05:03mention the tight ends where the tight ends it must be said there might not be but 10 or 11
05:09rooms in
05:10the nfl that have more nfl prospect nfl future nfl starters in the room than georgia does right now
05:19in the tight end room all right at the wide receiver position though who should be the guys
05:25that uga fans look out for after a couple of guys leave this offseason for the nfl yeah you gotta
05:32you
05:32gotta start with the georgia tech transfer isaiah cannon out of warner robbins kirby smart kind of
05:39called for a mulligan during spring practice this year when he's like he's a guy we should have
05:44recruited harder he's a guy we should have never let go to georgia tech uh that was a eval miss
05:51there
05:51for the dogs and he's probably going to be that guy six foot four can play the x can play
05:57the z can
05:57play all over he's the guy caught about 30 balls for about 400 yards and five scores for the yellow
06:04jackets last year he's the guy then there's a lot of guys where georgia feels like they've got the
06:10talent there it just needs to prove it talent taylor the five star wide receiver everybody knows him as
06:17the guy that didn't make the play against alabama in his freshman year but they're going to know him
06:23as the guy is perhaps one of the most explosive young receivers in the sec former five star here
06:30out of chicago illinois and he is a guy that is a rare five star in the program at receiver
06:37for georgia
06:38the last time georgia signed one of those was george pickens way back in 2019 are you surprised
06:46that ryan puglisi is back for another year and didn't try to go start somewhere
06:51he really wants to be a dog and nobody even moved him off his block remember you know time travel
06:57a
06:57little bit but dylan riola was coming into the same recruiting class at georgia with ryan and he was
07:04like nope i'm not going to let anybody else prohibit my dream he puts on his pads the same way
07:10i do
07:11and it still seems like he's got that bulldog dream we got to look at kind of the par for
07:16the course
07:17carson beck waited about three years before he finally started at georgia same thing for gunner
07:23stockton and now you got to look at ryan puglisi will be going into his third year in athens this
07:29fall
07:29so he's a guy if you had to say who's the most healthy guy in the room it's probably him
07:34he's got
07:35the most nfl ish wow arm he just got to figure out a way to take care of the football
07:41more and to just
07:42take the first down take the check down and not go broke making a profit on every drive talking all
07:50things dogs offseason look around with our buddy jeff centell of dog nation make sure you check out all
07:55of his great work there all right defensive up front how we look in beef wise between
08:00jordan hall elijah griffin xavier mccloud and the rest
08:06i said it right there first you got the right name out of your mouth elijah griffin is a guy
08:11for
08:11georgia to be as good as it needs to be this year he needs to play like an all-sec
08:16defensive lineman
08:17and i think that's a pretty low bar for him he was the number one defensive lineman in the country
08:23coming out of high school a couple couple years ago he looked very promising as a true freshman
08:30last year and it's time for him to make that sophomore surge where he looks like one of the
08:35better trench players in the country got everything you could ask for one of the strongest players on
08:41the team can get in the backfield he's a guy that's got to play well and georgia this is a
08:47year
08:47where they're going to look at all those former five stars in the program those are much more
08:52expensive to sign as freshmen than they were two or three years ago there's kj bolden there's ellis
08:59robinson there's elijah griffin there's justin williams there's raylon wilson those guys have got
09:06to make another leap forward with all their games for georgia to be a true playoff contender speaking
09:12of which is it a committee approach to replace cj allen or is you think one guy on this team
09:18that
09:18could step up and try to replicate what he meant for this team over the last couple years
09:23yeah so raylon wilson the guy that would probably be the even money bet to do that he's been around
09:29longer than anybody he was a former five star as we mentioned a minute ago he he was limited in
09:35spring
09:35practice so you saw justin williams the former number one linebacker in the country pretty good
09:41problems to have chris when you can have cj allen be all scc and all american and a butkus finalist
09:49and have him go be picked in the second round of the colts oh and then the guy that might
09:54be waiting
09:55in the wings was the former number one linebacker prospect in the country justin williams is very
10:01active he's very sideline to sideline very smart very cerebral this is his third year in that kirby
10:07smart glenn schumann defense as well i think georgia would like to see if justin williams can
10:13carry a lot more of those reps along with raylon wilson might not be a committee but it might be
10:19a
10:19duo with kj bolden leading the way in the secondary what is that potential kj bolden for the longest time
10:28he's looked like a guy that could be an all-american i believe he was second team coaches all scc
10:34a year
10:35ago i know you follow mock drafts on your program kj bolden has been mocked as a first rounder as
10:42well
10:42along with ellis robinson i think the big thing georgia did they self-scouted after a year ago when
10:49they didn't really have a lot of good safeties in the program much less healthy safeties after kj
10:56bolden last year and that kind of came to bite him into kind of the rear against old miss and
11:01the
11:01sugar bowl so you know you look at kj bolden he's a guy that they're penciling in as an all
11:06sec guy
11:07they brought in a lot of guys from the transfer portal khalil barns from clemson a couple of other
11:14guys gentry williams uh jamarley riddle and other some other guys they brought into the program
11:20they're expecting those guys to kind of be those be a lot better than what they tried in the transfer
11:27portal with a safety spot a year ago and then another name ray sean dinkins a guy who came on
11:33really late and really he looked so good last year as a true freshman that it forced janelle aguero a
11:39multi-year starter in athens to hit the portal because he was leaking playing time to the true
11:45freshman and now aguero is going to go start at old miss because of how good in some ways that
11:50dinkins
11:51looked a year ago couple of non-uga notes before we get you out of here why in the world
11:57can lane
11:58kiffin not help but put his own foot in his mouth i don't get it at this point he jeff
12:02he has everything
12:03he could ever want he has lsu he has unlimited funds he beat all of the uh you know early
12:09career
12:10stuff that he went through but he just continues to want to put himself in the spotlight for the
12:15wrong reasons i i can't understand it for the life of me yeah that's a layered discussion
12:21right there first of all i think the only people that are happy with lane kiffin right now
12:25are sports radio talk show hosts because he gives them gives them that off-season fodder but
12:32you know you start thinking about the people like if this was a murder mystery like you know who who
12:38who edged who who knocked off lane kiffin he has created a whole lot of suspects if we were playing
12:45clue the clue board game think about this he has disenfranchised los angeles raiders las vegas
12:52raiders fans he's disenfranchised tennessee vols he's disenfranchised alabama crimson tide fans
12:59mention old miss fans i mean the the suspect list would be pretty long about people who have beef with
13:07kiffin and let's not forget this one point remember all that image rehab he did a year ago with
13:14hot yoga and the espn profile and everything else and it's amazing how that house has been burned
13:21down in like literally one off season especially with the help of this vanity fair article which
13:28really had everyone up in arms jeff it's keith carter in the observatory with the candlestick
13:33that that is that's my guess i'm putting in right now that's right um that's right all right a couple
13:39more before i let you go uh at what point does the college football playoff expansion talk just
13:45become nauseating to you you know you have to talk to people in this sense like people used to talk
13:53about politics in the south you know are you are you a left wing are you a right wing well
13:58now it's are
13:59you an expansionist are you got a guy that's the only alternative this right now chris is if you're that
14:06old school guy with barely any hair and spectacles saying get off my lawn because you're so much of
14:14a purist that you can't see how great it is for 40 teams to be in the playoff race with
14:20two or three
14:21weeks left in the season i'm firmly in the in the room where and it was interesting we saw some
14:27reporting this week chris where uh espn says they're not in favor of 24 at all they prefer the 12
14:35and they wouldn't mind the 16 if that's where they go 16 would be the top i'm just a guy
14:41that
14:42when somebody knocks off somebody in the middle of october and it is a granddaddy of them all a
14:49granddaddy long legs upset that's got to mean something and when you go to 24 no matter what you do
14:57with
14:57conference championship games you devalue the product so very much when this is a this is a
15:04customer base that looks at those 12 saturdays in the fall as gold and they're undermining that a lot
15:12with what they're trying to do to just make january better at the expense of september october november and
15:19december and finally what are the falcons getting in zachari branch
15:25i tell you what when you're a defensive coordinator and you've got to say okay i got to deal with
15:29drake
15:29london i got to deal with kyle pitts i got to deal with obviously djohn robinson and you start looking
15:37at that offense and you got to have your fourth best guy to deal with zachari branch a guy that
15:43can
15:43make an elephant miss in one of those shower stalls or an old school phone booth you're going to have
15:49a lot of problems because the athlete you're going to have to put on zachari branch to deal with him
15:55is going to have no chance in a lot of schemes because he's a guy who works very hard he's
16:01fast
16:02you know it's one thing chris to me and the nfl combine tells no lies when you have a guy
16:09that can
16:09run a high 4-3 low 4-4 and then bench press 225 times i believe zachari branch got it
16:1720 times
16:19there are not many genetic freak humans on this earth that can do that everybody thinks he's like
16:24some diminutive slot receiver that the wind will blow him over he's just a fast guy this is a guy
16:31that made a lot of plays at georgia and i think i think atlanta is going to try to show
16:35folks that
16:36they're a little bit more diverse with the route tree than what he showed at georgia
16:40jeff great stuff appreciate you as always we'll check in again as we get through the summer and
16:46the the roster continues to evolve and develop and of course we'll check you out at dogs hq thanks so
16:50much
